What worried him even more was that when she walked in covered in bandages from head to toe, wouldn’t everyone be stunned speechless before bursting into laughter?
“Che’er, sit down. She merely went back to retrieve something. Why would you personally need to fetch her? She should know her limits. Don’t worry—Luoluo is a good child. I have confidence in her.”
Today the Empress wore a magnificent imperial crown adorned with nine golden dragons and four phoenixes, decorated with gold dragons, kingfisher-feather phoenix ornaments, jade, and pearls. Draped over her was a splendid dark green ceremonial robe, its trailing skirt embroidered with golden clouds, making her appear incomparably graceful and noble.
Xiao Che could not help recalling Jin Luoluo’s bizarre appearance. The difference between the two was simply heaven and earth.
Mother said she had confidence in her, while he himself had ten thousand times no confidence in her at all. Still, since his mother had spoken, he could not very well argue back.
Xiao Che could only return to his seat, feeling as though he were sitting on needles. His gaze kept drifting anxiously toward the entrance of the hall.
Even Xiao Yu and Yang Ruoyao seated opposite him noticed his unusual behavior.
Xiao Yu raised his wine cup to hide the faint smile at the corner of his lips, while Yang Ruoyao no longer had any mood to joke around with the noble young ladies beside her.
Finally, at the very last moment before the ceremonial official was about to strike the golden gong announcing the banquet’s beginning, the tardy Jin Luoluo at last made her grand entrance.
“Miss Jin of the Jin family, Jin Luoluo, requests an audience with the Empress!” the ceremonial official loudly announced.
The Empress brightened with delight and said kindly, “Quickly, let her enter!”
Everyone in the great hall had long heard of Jin Luoluo’s many legendary exploits. Each person stretched their necks eagerly forward, wanting to see whether this famous Jin Luoluo was truly as beautiful and fierce as the rumors claimed.
Jin Luoluo refused the assistance of the palace maids. Leaning on a crutch and wearing the brightest, silliest grin imaginable on her face, she hopped all the way into the hall.
“My apologies, everyone. I, Jin Luoluo, have arrived late.”
The people in the hall suddenly saw what looked like a mummy bouncing in through the doorway. Instantly, those drinking wine spat out wine, those drinking tea sprayed tea everywhere, and those eating pastries choked and burst into coughing fits.
The entire hall descended into chaos. Tea and wine flew everywhere as suppressed laughter erupted all around.
Xiao Che wished he could bury his head underground. He simply could not bear to look anymore.
Jin Luoluo had deliberately chosen the worst possible moment and the worst possible method of entrance. If this was not premeditated, he no longer believed such an enormous coincidence could exist in the world.
That girl was intentionally humiliating herself to get revenge on him.
“You… are Jin Luoluo?” Even a composed woman like the Empress could no longer maintain the smile on her face and did not know how to respond.
