HEIFEIGU -Chapter 129

The film base and the amusement park happened to be on opposite corners of the city.

Today was the weekend, no vehicle restrictions; many families were out, and it was now the peak of the return journey.

On the navigation map, roads were either light or dark red, with no green anywhere—every route looked jammed.

The car merged into traffic. Qian Shuyun quickly shoved down a sandwich and drank some water.

He wiped dust from his face and clothes with a wet wipe, then focused on looking out the window.

Outwardly calm, his body couldn’t help but shift constantly.

Sometimes leaning forward, staring at the car ahead; sometimes leaning back, watching the side traffic.

His fingers tapped lightly on his knees.

This small anxious gesture hadn’t appeared in him for a long time.

The sky gradually darkened to deep blue, with a vivid streak of sunset on the horizon.

The amusement park lights were lit one by one, and cheerful music floated from afar.

The parade of floats was about to begin.

This was the park’s main event, always lively.

Crowds gathered, interacting, taking photos, moving along with the floats.

Foot pain could be tolerated while moving, but stopping to rest amplified it many times over.

Xie Jixing slowly moved to the roadside steps, chewing on an expensive cartoon-shaped biscuit while watching the distant, bustling crowd.

Though he didn’t feel lonely, on camera he looked particularly forlorn.

【Dressed so handsomely, now this happens…】

【I’m anxious just watching. The movie king is still stuck in traffic.】

【Can’t they just have a cute kiss and end the show happily? Why all this drama?】

【Xingxing looks so lonely.】

【I think after the parade ends, the fireworks start, closing the park. Where’s the movie king now?】

【Report: already on the ring road overpass, should be fine.】

After nearly an hour of driving, they hadn’t yet covered half the distance. Qian Shuyun had gone from subtle anxiety to an almost constant flurry of movements.

He found it almost impossible to sit still, relying only on his manners to keep from urging the driver.

Once on the overpass, he could finally see the Ferris wheel in the distance, and his mind began to calm—though the speed slowed even more.

Cars around honked impatiently, creating a cacophony on the overpass.

Qian Shuyun finally asked, “What’s ahead? Was there an accident?”

The driver was confused. “Don’t know. Moving very slowly, long queue.”

As the driver went to check, the navigation gave the answer: “Traffic control ahead, expected delay about two hours. Please plan alternate routes.”

“Traffic control?”

Even the production team hadn’t anticipated this sudden event.

Qian Shuyun leaned forward, fingers nervously intertwined.

“Yes, traffic control under the overpass. We’ll take another route once we get down.”

Though the driver said this, he knew it was the best-case scenario.

No one knew the road conditions under the overpass.

The car started creeping forward; Qian Shuyun pressed the accelerator to follow.

He kept his eyes on the Ferris wheel’s shadow, rapidly calculating possible solutions.

The parade had passed through the park, and the cheerful music faded almost entirely.

Darkness fell completely. Visitors who had followed the parade gradually returned, lining up for the fireworks.

The Ferris wheel was the best viewing spot.

All couples probably knew its legend and rushed back to queue.

Xie Jixing retreated into the shadow of a tree, watching the Ferris wheel ascend slowly.

‘Pop!’

The first firework exploded in the night sky. Xie Jixing looked up, watching one after another.

Brilliantly colorful, illuminating half the night sky.

【Fireworks have started. Where’s the movie king?】

【Just off the overpass, still in traffic.】

【My heart can finally stop worrying—he’s definitely not going to make it.】

【Latest update: He’s out of the car!】

【Ah? Check how far from the park.】

【Bad news: about 8 kilometers.】

Xie Jixing stood under the Ferris wheel, watching the last firework fade, ear piece silent.

The production team hadn’t notified him—Qian Shuyun hadn’t arrived.

The last time he missed fireworks, this time he watched alone.

The fireworks show was the park’s final event. After it, the park would start clearing.

Xie Jixing slowly followed the crowd toward the park gate.

Once outside, the crowd dispersed quickly. Xie Jixing remained at the gate.

The night had grown colder; without the crowd’s shelter, the river breeze felt especially chilly.

He found a wind-sheltered spot, curled up on the roadside, longing for thermal pants.

【Still waiting?】

【No point waiting now. Fireworks are over, park is closed, what’s left?】

【I feel angry for Xingxing.】

【And it’s so cold—better go back and reschedule.】

The production team hadn’t expected this; sudden traffic control was truly unforeseen.

Waiting outdoors on a winter night, the guest could really get sick. After emergency discussion, the production team’s voice came through Xie Jixing’s earpiece: “Guest Xie Jixing, do you wish to give up today’s confession?”

“If so, please choose to give up.”

“The production team will arrange a make-up.”

Xie Jixing pulled a car key-sized device from his coat pocket. A button on it could be pressed to give up.

He smiled and returned it to his pocket.

“No, I believe he will come.”

At the same time, Qian Shuyun received the production team’s notification through his earpiece.

“Guest Qian Shuyun, do you wish to give up today’s confession?”

“If you need to, please choose to give up.”

“The production team will arrange a makeup session.”

The camera had already lost track of Qian Shuyun the moment he got out of the car, and his livestream room was now completely dark.

Only a wireless microphone remained recording.

From the darkness came a panting voice:

“I won’t give up… Xingxing is still waiting for me.”

【The movie king is still here?】

【Oh my God, judging by the sound, he’s running!?】

【I’m going to cry… why do they have to torment the little couple like this!?】

At the entrance of the amusement park at night, no one was around, only a few lonely street lamps were still lit.

Xie Jixing kept standing up and jogging in place, but his hands and feet inevitably felt a bit numb from the cold.

That wasn’t so bad—once numb, he barely felt the pain in his feet at all.

He was about to run a bit farther while warming his hands with his breath when a familiar voice came from behind.

“Xingxing.”

But the voice sounded a little out of breath.

Xie Jixing stopped and turned around.

Qian Shuyun had his hands on his knees, gasping for air.

He looked utterly disheveled.

His hair, pressed down earlier and damp from sweat, was slightly messy.

Sweat mixed with dirt on his face, making him look completely chaotic.

His once neatly tailored suit was now wrinkled and rumpled from running so hard.

Compared to the usual Qian Shuyun, he didn’t look handsome at all.

Yet Xie Jixing felt he looked exceptionally good now.

“Sorry… I’m late,” Qian Shuyun said, frustrated with himself.

He had been careless.

He could have contacted the production team in advance—what harm would using a little privilege have done?

Knowing the answer ahead of time and delivering a perfect confession—that was what really mattered, wasn’t it?

Now it seemed everything was ruined.

“The fireworks are gone, the park is closed, and the gift I prepared is still in the car.”

The bouquet of gypsophila still lay in the trunk.

At the cold, deserted entrance of the amusement park, under the dim street lamps, Qian Shuyun, filthy and hesitant, didn’t dare to get close to Xie Jixing.

“Sorry…”

“You shouldn’t have waited for me.”

Qian Shuyun lowered his head, his shoulders trembling slightly. The emotions accumulated over the day finally erupted.

He looked like a dog about to be sent away by its owner, corners of his eyes and lips drooping, utterly dejected.

Xie Jixing took off his coat and carefully adjusted his suit and bow tie.

His ears and nose were bright red from the cold, and even his eyelids had a thin flush of red. He looked pitiful, yet his expression was unusually determined.

The clouds in the sky parted, and a bright star emerged, shining in the night.

Xie Jixing walked to Qian Shuyun, stopped in front of him, and nervously cleared his throat.

After being frozen for so long, his voice trembled slightly, but it reached Qian Shuyun’s heart clearly.

“Qian Shuyun, fireworks may burn out, the amusement park may close, but Xingxing will always wait for you.”

“Will you… accept my confession?”

The tear that he had been holding back fell at that moment.

Qian Shuyun wiped his eyes with the back of his hand, took a deep breath, straightened up, and looked at Xie Jixing.

There was still a faint glimmer in his eyes; those ash-gray pupils looked even deeper and more beautiful.

Xie Jixing’s lips curved into a shallow smile as he tilted his head and extended his hand. “Hmm?”

Even though he only smiled lightly, Qian Shuyun’s heartbeat raced violently, suddenly filled with strength.

He stepped forward, wanting to embrace Xie Jixing.

But seeing Xie Jixing in his haute couture suit, like a noble little prince, while he himself was a little dirty, Qian Shuyun hesitated.

He bent down, hugging Xie Jixing around the knees, lifting him entirely.

“What are you doing?” Xie Jixing’s hands rested on Qian Shuyun’s shoulders, sounding mildly reproachful, yet his smile was brilliant, the little red mole under his eye flickering in the starlight.

Qian Shuyun looked up at him with focus. “Now you can gaze at my star from below.”

“A star has pierced through the darkest part of my life, and finally fallen into my arms.”

“Will you always light up my life?”

Even as he looked up, Xie Jixing noticed a tear had washed over those ash-gray eyes, falling from the corner.

He bent down, cupping Qian Shuyun’s face. “This star belongs to you now.”

Then he gently kissed him.

He would always illuminate your life.
