Chen Mengyu’s band played a second-dimensional, hot-blooded rock style.
Performing at Live Houses wasn’t very popular, but the production team had generously arranged a special show for them today.
The entire venue was set up like a small anime convention, and the audience members were all quite distinctive.
Xie Jixing felt they were somewhat like the tourists they’d met at the amusement park that day—but even more exaggerated.
Their hair was a riot of colors, almost forming a full rainbow of red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and purple—and somehow it still looked good.
The guest seats were a long table right in the middle of the Live House, and Song Chu was already there.
He wore a neat suit, standing out sharply among the sea of Lolita and cosplay outfits.
When he saw Xie Jixing carrying a huge bouquet of flowers, he unusually let out a “phew” expression.
He whispered quietly to his junior brother, “Do you think they’re like the yokai cultivators back home?”
Song Chu gestured at a red-haired person. “That’s the red fox.”
Then he pointed at a green-haired one, his expression odd, clicking his tongue and shaking his head—clearly not approving of that hair color. “Is this… mugwort?”
Not entirely sure.
“The few with white hair over there are fairly normal,” Song Chu continued a bit louder, prompting Xie Jixing to quickly cover his mouth.
“Don’t say anything!”
His senior brother was so uncool—if he kept going, they’d be besieged by these anime-style yokai cultivators.
The guests gradually arrived, and Yu Yueting wore Lolita today as well.
Now she had a curvy figure and a round face, which suited the style perfectly—she looked both gorgeous and cute.
Yin Lening wore a pilot uniform, standing beside the sweet Lolita girl, and didn’t look out of place at all.
Even Gao Xingchuan, rarely seen in this style, turned out to be secretly into anime.
He hadn’t overdone it—just a deer-antler hat and a black tie printed with a straw-hat skull—but it was enough to blend in.
Since visiting the amusement park, Qian Shuyun seemed to have developed a special fondness for animal ears, and had ordered a batch online.
Today he specifically chose two cat ear headbands: one for himself, a wildcat style with two long tufts of “smart hair,” and a round silver gradient one for Xie Jixing.
With this, the only conspicuous spots at their table were Song Chu and Jiang Tutu.
Jiang Tutu’s outfit was similar to what she’d worn at her graduation event: an elegant, noble gown.
The anime-style crowd was very tolerant, constantly praising her.
“So pretty! Is she cosplaying some princess we don’t know? I want to collect stamps with her!”
Although the compliments were well-meaning, her expression darkened. If it weren’t for Song Chu, she wouldn’t have come to such a chaotic event.
She glanced at the person beside her.
Song Chu was still in his suit, tie perfectly straight, silver-rimmed narrow glasses properly perched on his nose.
In this environment, only the two of them matched.
Good thing she’d bet right.
She trusted that after tonight, Song Chu would realize that a normal girl like Chen Mengyu, with her strange hobbies, wasn’t suitable for him at all.
The indoor lights dimmed, and the dark stage erupted with a fierce drumbeat.
Followed by an electric guitar solo.
The band members appeared in the lights, wearing JK uniforms and black Martin boots.
Accompanied by the guitar’s brilliance, the audience immediately went wild. Amidst the cheers, Jiang Tutu’s brows furrowed even tighter.
She glanced at Song Chu beside her—fortunately, he wasn’t as restless as the others.
But what Jiang Tutu didn’t see was that Song Chu was intently watching the people on stage, his gaze like a flame ignited.
Chen Mengyu had her hair in twin tails today, with black star glitter at the corners of her eyes, transforming from purely sweet to sweet-cool.
Holding the electric guitar, she looked absolutely heroic.
The vocalist’s voice was unique, high-pitched and slightly hoarse, full of emotion. When the first high note hit, no one in the audience could remain seated.
Gao Xingchuan was ecstatic—the opening song was his favorite OP.
He grabbed Zhu Qian beside him, who was clapping along. “Get up and hype, brother!”
With them leading, even Xie Jixing, who didn’t understand anything, was pulled up by Yu Yueting and Yin Lening.
“Mengyu is so cool!” Yu Yueting screamed and cheered, completely losing her composure.
Chen Mengyu showed her that life could have another side.
The audience was ignited by the band’s enthusiasm as well.
【So awesome! My scalp is tingling.】
【Watching a dating show and getting a free concert too, amazing.】
【All these are anime hits! Never realized Mengyu had this side.】
【Suddenly seems even sweeter—and cool too!】
【No one’s praising Mengyu’s outfit today? Twin tails are the best!】
【Ahhhh, Miss Mengyu, is there room to adjust your orientation? I’m in!】
Amid the high-energy music, only Song Chu and Jiang Tutu remained seated.
Chen Mengyu occasionally glanced at Song Chu, a little sad.
They seemed to be from two entirely different worlds.
It was only the show that had temporarily bound them together.
Once the show ended, they’d return to their own worlds.
She would go run anime convention operations, open a grain store, maybe even become a guitar teacher.
Song Chu, on the other hand, would attend business forums, listen to classical concerts, act decisively—the aloof CEO Song.
Compared to her, he seemed much more suited to Jiang Tutu sitting beside him.
Well, once the performance ends, Song Chu would clearly know what kind of person he was.
Would he gradually distance himself, or cut ties entirely?
Chen Mengyu forcibly looked away, raising her hand to the audience.
Song Chu was momentarily stunned, following her gaze.
The green-haired young man had leapt from his seat to the front of the stage, reaching out to shake Chen Mengyu’s hand.
What is this mugwort trying to do?!
Song Chu quickly stood up, right at the pause between songs.
The hall quieted, and the harsh scrape of chairs was heard by many.
Especially since they were closest to the stage—the band members looked over in surprise.
Jiang Tutu looked up at Song Chu, a small smile on her lips.
He’s angry.
Can’t tolerate the noise any longer, and is leaving?
Maybe inviting him to a piano concert next time would be a good idea.
Chen Mengyu also looked toward Song Chu.
Is he leaving?
Our date isn’t even over yet, and it’s about to end abruptly?
Indeed, cutting things off decisively fit Song Chu’s personality.
【Ah! No! My Chu-Tian CP can’t be heading for a bad ending.】
【Though honestly, the difference between them is quite big.】
【One’s a strict CEO, the other’s a twin-tail anime girl—it’d be hard to work.】
【Seems Song Chu does fit better with Jiang Tutu.】
After standing, Song Chu first glanced disdainfully at the silver gradient ears on Xie Jixing, then fixed his gaze on Qian Shuyun’s head.
“President Qian, may I borrow these for a moment?”
Qian Shuyun had no choice but to take them off and hand them over, sulking over at Xie Jixing.
To everyone’s surprise, Song Chu put on the wildcat ears, raising his eyebrows at Chen Mengyu on stage.
The lead vocalist almost crushed her microphone.
So adorable, so satisfying!
She couldn’t help teasing, “Wildcat butler.”
“Mengyu, so cool!”
Amid friendly laughter, Chen Mengyu saw Song Chu’s ears gradually turning red—rarely showing some embarrassment and shyness.
Yet he made no move to retreat, standing at the center of everyone’s gaze, waiting for the next song.
Chen Mengyu smiled, starting a brilliant guitar solo that drew everyone’s attention back to the stage.
The next song was her favorite—a love song.
We don’t need to change for each other, but if you’re willing, you could add a little of me to your form.
【Who said they don’t match?! CEO Song is amazing, Mengyu is so cool, I declare them perfect together!】
【Help! The moment CEO Song raised his cat ears, I nearly cried.】
【Haha, no one noticing the movie king in the corner? He showed off too much yesterday, today it’s finally his turn to eat the dog food.】
The concert was hot, and afterward, Song Chu didn’t sit again, whether for ballads or rock songs.
He tried to follow Zhu Qian, learning to sway and tap to the music freely.
But it wasn’t effective.
His back was too straight, his core too tight, limbs stiff as if just tamed—awkward and slightly comical.
Yet in this atmosphere, no one cared.
Everyone was immersed in the beautiful love stories around them.
Except for Jiang Tutu, with her red eyes.
She hadn’t expected that, after staking everything, even leaving her reliable backup Gao Xingchuan, she’d try to win Song Chu.
Yet Song Chu really liked that ordinary girl, who had no real strengths besides being cute.
She could play piano and violin, but there was no opportunity to show it to him.
Jiang Tutu felt restless but unwilling to leave.
If she did, she’d seem petty and lose this chance to be on camera.
She heard this was Chen Mengyu’s band’s final performance—once the curtain closes, leaving this atmosphere, and realizing Mengyu was just an ordinary girl, would Song Chu still be so captivated?
The small performance included 20 songs, mixing popular OPs and a few original tracks by the band.
But they also knew that this style of music was really niche, and there probably wouldn’t be much commercial opportunity.
After the final song ended, the members lined up and bowed deeply to the small audience below.
The lead singer’s voice was a little choked, “Thank you all for coming today. This should be our last performance.”
“From now on, we’ll each be busy earning a living and chasing our future. We also thank Meng Yu and the team of Heartbeat Biological Clock for broadcasting this performance.”
“I’ve never sung in front of so many people before.”
Saying this, she handed the microphone to Chen Mengyu.
Chen Mengyu’s voice rose, sweet yet with a hint of strength, “I’ve never played guitar in front of so many people either. Today was so much fun, thank you all!”
The members hugged on stage, saying their goodbyes to each other, and in a way, to their carefree youth.
【A bit sad, but there’s nothing we can do.】
【Is there anyone in the virtual studio who can sign them? I really feel for them.】
【So many bands break up like this every year. They’re good, but unless they find a really professional talent scout, it’s hard to commercialize them.】
【Yeah, it’s a pity, but signing with an average management company might actually ruin their style.】
【Sigh… I want Mr. Song to use his money power, but I’m also afraid of him using it.】
【I get you, sis. It’s okay. Even if the band breaks up, Meng Yu will still shine.】
The viewers watching the livestream were also filled with regret and helplessness.
In a corner where no one was paying attention, Zhu Qian quietly walked to the edge of the stage and picked up a microphone.
A metallic male voice full of curiosity asked, “Do you mean… you’re breaking up?”
