HLM – Chapter 997 Going Too Far

Happy Little Mayor 6 min read 997 of 1443 29

Thousands of miles away, in Sunset Town.

Chen Luoxian felt a bit helpless. She stood at the entrance of the beverage shop, staring at a deep black Maybach parked in front of her, expressionless.

The car door opened, and as expected, the person she anticipated stepped out.

Zheng Jinyuan, wearing sunglasses, came out. His brows were slightly furrowed, his face stern. Standing next to the luxurious Maybach, he looked completely out of place to Chen Luoxian.

Zheng Jinyuan liked to frown. He thought it gave him a look of depth, but Chen Luoxian felt it was more like disdain. He also liked to maintain a serious expression, but to outsiders, it came across as a blank face.

Seeing this wealthy tycoon, Chen Luoxian felt almost exasperated. Zheng Jinyuan himself was also frustrated. This time, he approached her and said, “Xian’er, what exactly is your attitude toward me?”

Chen Luoxian forced a smile. “President Zheng, I’ve probably told you a hundred times already. I see you as a client—a very good client. That’s all, nothing more.”

Zheng Jinyuan replied, unwilling to accept it: “Just a client? I’ve done so much for you, and you only see me as a client? Have you never considered other possibilities?”

Chen Luoxian said, “I wanted to see you as a brother, but my parents don’t agree.”

Nearby, a tour guide sipping sparkling wine snickered.

Zheng Jinyuan caught her laughter and scowled. “What’s so funny? Step aside—I have private matters to discuss with your company’s president!”

Seeing him scold his staff like that, Chen Luoxian felt a little reluctant. “President Zheng, it’s just work-related things between us. What could be so private? And for work matters, I can’t hide things from my colleagues.”

Zheng Jinyuan stepped closer. “You know how I feel about you, Xian’er. Is it stressful for you to be around me? Maybe I’m too serious at times…”

He reached out to grab her.

Chen Luoxian, always kind to her staff and well-respected for it, was about to be helped by the tour guide, who calmly intervened with a smile: “President Zheng, whatever it is, let’s talk calmly. No need for rough behavior.”

Zheng Jinyuan pushed the guide aside and shouted angrily, “I told you, I have private matters to discuss with your company’s president. Why are you always butting in?”

A male tour guide stepped forward. “President Zheng, why are you using your hands?”

Zheng Jinyuan cursed, “Get lost! Who do you think you are? Who let you show your crotch like that?”

Those words ignited Chen Luoxian’s anger. She steadied her colleague and glared at him. “Enough, Zheng Jinyuan! Stop showing off your authority. I understand your intentions. Let me tell you, I, Chen Luoxian, would rather marry a dog in this life than ever marry you!”

Zheng Jinyuan was furious. “Are you pretending to be naive? Leading me on all this time, spending so much of my money, just to toy with me?”

Chen Luoxian snapped back: “Who’s toying with you? I never wanted to see you from the start—you’ve been following me all this time. I came to New Zealand to avoid you, didn’t you know that?”

“Also, President Zheng, this is New Zealand. Your connections here might be useless, so don’t get worked up.” The girl he nearly pushed over said coldly.

Zheng Jinyuan was proud, not foolish. He knew well that domestic methods wouldn’t work abroad.

Especially since he had already made two aggressive moves and shouted loudly, some tourists nearby had noticed and were pointing at them.

He knew it was best to leave, but he was unwilling. He had spent considerable time and money pursuing Chen Luoxian. If he left without claiming something, it wouldn’t be his style.

He glared at Chen Luoxian angrily. “Fine, Chen Luoxian, this time I, Zheng Jinyuan, will go down in the gutter…”

“Don’t say lewd things. If you try anything, I’ll call the police!” Chen Luoxian snapped.

Zheng Jinyuan retorted irritably, “Try anything? Bullshit! If I wanted to, do you think you’d even still be standing here? Fine, there are plenty of women in the world. I’ll just go after someone else! But what about the money I’ve spent on you these past few days?”

“What money? Stop making baseless claims!”

Zheng Jinyuan began counting: “I flew with your group four times, 20,000 each trip. How much is that? I also treated you to meals at that Haidilao, more money gone. And this car—I rented it for you, so you should reimburse me for the rental and fuel, right?”

Chen Luoxian was stunned. She had faced scoundrels before, but a scoundrel of Zheng Jinyuan’s caliber was something else entirely.

“You want me to reimburse your rental? Did I ask you to rent it? How can you be so unreasonable?” Chen Luoxian fumed.

Seeing no chance of marrying her, Zheng Jinyuan stopped pretending to be gentlemanly.

He threw his coat back into the car and sneered: “Reasonable? With a woman like you, a green-tea b***h, reason doesn’t work! Listen, unless you return all the money you’ve taken from me, I’ll ruin your reputation.”

A tour guide said angrily, “Sister Chen, let’s go. Let him go crazy here. If worse comes to worst, we’ll call the police.”

Zheng Jinyuan sneered: “Call the police? Fine. Let’s have lawyers get involved so that both domestic tourists and foreigners can see what kind of travel company you are.”

“Call Mayor Wang, let him deal with this scoundrel.”

Zheng Jinyuan scoffed: “Go ahead. Don’t think I don’t know—Mayor Wang already went to Wellington for some festival. Today, I’m prepared.”

Chen Luoxian was at a loss dealing with his harassment; she had no experience with scoundrels.

At that moment, Zhuang Ding noticed the crowd and curiously squeezed in to see the commotion.

Seeing Zhuang Ding, Chen Luoxian’s eyes lit up. She was familiar with the dog; whenever she went to see Wang Bo, she would play with Zhuang Ding. They were old friends.

Zheng Jinyuan, however, was not familiar with Zhuang Ding. Chen Luoxian realized she could use Zhuang Ding to scare him off.

As Zhuang Ding squeezed in, a shadow suddenly charged at him and grabbed him.

Zhuang Ding was confused. He struggled back, but his sharp sense of smell quickly recognized Chen Luoxian. If a stranger had tackled him like that, he would have struck first.

Chen Luoxian held Zhuang Ding firmly, and the dog had a confused look: “Miss, behave yourself. I only care about female dogs, not two-legged creatures like you.”

Seeing Chen Luoxian with the dog, Zheng Jinyuan hesitated instinctively. But when he saw her hugging Zhuang Ding and walking outside, his anger flared even more.
