HLM – Chapter 851 Driving the “Tuhao Jin” Horse

After soaking in deer hide and oil overnight, the two lasso poles were ready to use.

Wang Bo deliberately took Eva, Dale, and others to the horse paddock so they could watch his skill in lassoing horses today.

Dale rode her beloved pumpkin carriage. As the wheels rolled over the uneven grass, she bounced around inside like a piece of bread tossed in a pan.

Zhuang Ding and Little Wang’s group also followed behind in a grand procession. In the sky, the regiment commander and political commissar flew back and forth, adding to the spectacle.

After getting the lasso poles, Wang Bo noticed that the main pole and the shoulder pole still had noticeably different textures. Mackson laughed: “Of course. Lard isn’t aqua regia—you can’t expect it to work overnight.”

“But it doesn’t affect usage,” Malon reassured him.

Wang Bo sighed: “I know it won’t affect usage, but I’m a Virgo—I strive for perfection.”

“Do you plan to wait a month or longer then?”

Upon hearing this, the Virgo instantly abandoned the pursuit of perfection. Today was the day!

Tuhao Jin and Black Horse King considered the stables their territory. When Wang Bo opened the stable doors, they ran inside, jostling each other to get in first.

Malon approached with a pair of scissors. Tuhao Jin watched him warily, trotting in place with small, careful steps while constantly snorting.

Wang Bo quickly asked: “Hey, what are you doing? Don’t bring that over—Tuhao Jin was once injured by scissors. Seeing this might stress it out; be careful it doesn’t attack you.”

Malon handed the scissors to Wang Bo: “Then do it yourself. Cut some hair from its mane or tail.”

Wang Bo followed the instructions, knowing that Malon wouldn’t set him a task like this without a reason.

Tuhao Jin trusted him, and its tension gradually eased.

After taking a strand of tail hair, Malon braided it like a small plait and attached it to the top of the lasso pole. He drilled a hole in the end of the wooden pole for the rope to pass through, leaving enough space for the braided hair.

Finally, the horsehair was tied into a butterfly knot. Wang Bo shook the lasso pole, and the hair fluttered atop it like a black dragonfly ready to take flight, swaying beautifully in the wind.

Wang Bo thought it was purely decorative, but Malon signaled him to dip it in Tuhao Jin’s urine.

“That’s a bit gross,” he said.

Malon explained: “Tuhao Jin is the bully of the herd. If the lasso pole carries its scent, it can intimidate the wild horses. That’s its purpose.”

Hani and his son came over to play. Hani wanted to show off in front of his son, and upon seeing the setup, he laughed: “You want to bring the wild horses into the stable? No need to make it so complicated.”

“What’s your idea?”

Hani grabbed a bundle of carrots, waved his hand, and said: “Let me show you how an intellectual captures wild horses. Watch carefully—this is called luring a horse.”

He tossed a carrot out.

Attracted by the treat, the wild horses rushed over and fought to eat it.

Hani stepped back and tossed another carrot. The herd surged again to grab it.

By repeating this, Hani gradually guided the herd closer to the stables.

Then he threw the remaining carrots into the stable and waved: “Come on, good children! Come inside and you’ll be well-fed.”

But the wild horses stopped fighting. They paused, eyes wide, assessing the stable, then turned and ran away.

The summer wind blew, and Hani was left in disarray.

Laughter echoed through the stable. Wang Bo said: “So this is how intellectuals catch wild horses? Luckily, I’m not one—time to ride!”

With a shout, he mounted Tuhao Jin, swung his hand forward, and yelled: “Charge! Let’s catch that beautiful mare first!”

Tuhao Jin surged forward like a cannonball, limbs flailing as it shot ahead.

Malon rode Black Horse King behind him. Though its limbs were long and its body graceful, it was slower than Tuhao Jin, especially in explosive speed.

Tuhao Jin’s short legs had a very high stride frequency, and the muscles in its legs were well-defined, exuding a sense of power and beauty.

The wild horses, unaware of the approaching threat, stayed obediently in place. They were used to living alongside Tuhao Jin and Black Horse King.

When close enough, Wang Bo easily looped the lasso rope over a black wild horse’s long face.

The horse shook its head to get rid of the rope, but it was impossible. The rope, tied in a camp knot, tightened instantly when Wang Bo pulled the lasso pole backward.

“Roar!” Wang Bo shouted:

“Give me a blue sky,
A rising sun,
Give me a field of green grass,
Stretching to the horizon,
Give me an eagle,
A mighty man,
Give me a lasso pole
Gripped in his hands…”

With Tuhao Jin’s strength and Wang Bo’s grip, the black wild horse couldn’t escape. It struggled, but shaking its head didn’t help.

It began to run. Wang Bo leaned forward on Tuhao Jin, left hand on the reins, right hand firmly holding the lasso pole, controlling the black horse like fishing.

After a while, the wild horse grew tired, and its speed slowed.

Tuhao Jin wasn’t pleased. The reins were uncomfortable, and because Wang Bo had to follow the black horse, he constantly tugged on the reins to control Tuhao Jin.

Tuhao Jin had never had to eat dirt behind another horse. Angry, it suddenly accelerated, caught up to the black horse, and bit its hindquarters fiercely!

The black horse leapt in pain. Wang Bo quickly loosened the lasso pole, worried about toppling the horse.

But as soon as he relaxed, the horse surged forward, dragging the lasso pole along.

Malon, riding Black Horse King, laughed: “Boss, you can’t do that. Unless you’ve caught it, never let go!”

Wang Bo shouted: “What now? The pole’s gone!”

Malon said: “No problem. It will stop eventually, and then we can retrieve it.”

Wang Bo patted Tuhao Jin’s head, intending to follow the black horse. But Tuhao Jin interpreted it as an attack and charged, kicking the black horse twice with its front hooves.

The black horse winced but didn’t resist, lowering its head to flee.

Its speed, agility, and explosive power were no match for Tuhao Jin. Where could it go?

Tuhao Jin kicked and bit until the black horse submitted, standing there confused and humiliated, unsure what it had done to provoke this tyrant.

With that, bringing the wild horse into the stable became easy. The lasso pole wasn’t even needed—Tuhao Jin acted like a captor, driving it straight into the stable.
