Watching Doctor Yi carefully feel Little Wang all over, Wang Bo said impatiently, “Doctor Yi, it’s got a mouth ulcer on its tongue, not rotting sores on its body.”
After finishing the examination, Doctor Yi finally relaxed and said, “I know. I just had to check whether there was any chance it could be Behçet’s syndrome.”
“Huh? What disease is that?” Wang Bo asked.
Doctor Yi explained, “Behçet’s syndrome. The oral mucosal lesions and their recurrence pattern are similar to recurrent ulcers, but this disease affects multiple systems and organs. It presents with recurrent genital ulcers, skin erythema nodosum, folliculitis, and uveitis.”
“Is it scary?” Wang Bo asked worriedly.
Doctor Yi nodded. “There are many causes of oral ulcers. Recurrent aphthous stomatitis is the simplest and heals on its own. But Behçet’s syndrome eventually causes multi-system damage involving the joints, small blood vessels, nervous system, digestive system, respiratory system, urinary system, and more.”
“So what’s the result now?”
Doctor Yi smiled. “It’s not Behçet’s syndrome. Come on, Little Wang, open your mouth.”
Little Wang refused to open its mouth. Wang Bo immediately resorted to rough enforcement and pried it open with both hands.
Doctor Yi carefully examined Little Wang’s tongue. This was exactly why it didn’t want to open its mouth—during the examination the cotton swab would touch it, which was extremely painful. Little Wang’s eyes filled with tears.
The Queen came over and licked its fur with her tongue. The chubby cat brothers and Zhuang Ding also came up and rubbed their heads against it.
Seeing this, Doctor Yi laughed in surprise. “Your kids really do share a deep bond.”
Wang Bo shrugged. “Even when they’re being naughty and causing trouble, they still stick together.”
Little Wang stuck out its tongue unhappily—when was this going to end?
After looking carefully for quite a while, Doctor Yi finally took off his gloves and said with a smile, “This is the first time I’ve seen an animal with oral ulcers, so I’m not entirely certain. But if my judgment is correct, this should be mucosal herpes simplex.”
“So it’s not a mouth ulcer?” Wang Bo asked in surprise.
Doctor Yi replied, “You could say it’s a type of oral ulcer. More specifically, it’s herpes simplex. In humans, this disease commonly occurs in infants and young children. During onset, besides ulcers, it also causes general discomfort and fatigue.”
Wang Bo thought about it—Little Wang had indeed looked very tired this morning, unwilling to move much, and even when it came in just now, it seemed weak.
Still not completely certain, Doctor Yi continued explaining, “I think it’s herpes simplex. Look—what we’re seeing are ulcers, but there were actually small blisters before. See them?”
“In the early stage, herpes simplex mainly presents as clusters of small blisters. At that stage there’s no pain, but once the blisters rupture, they merge into larger erosive areas or irregular ulcers—just like what you see now.”
Wang Bo nodded. “Then let’s treat it according to that. What causes it?”
“The direct cause is lowered immunity. You can ask a veterinarian to give it an injection to stimulate its immune response,” Doctor Yi said. “As for treatment, I’ll prescribe some medication—antiviral for herpes, plus topical application. It should heal in about two days.”
Soon, a nurse brought over two boxes of medicine, one of which was an ointment that needed to be applied.
“After applying it, you need to make it stick its tongue out for one minute. It can’t swallow it right away, otherwise the effect won’t be good,” Doctor Yi instructed.
Wang Bo nodded to show he understood, then took the fur kids to his office. He made Little Wang squat down and open its mouth, then applied the ointment to its tongue.
No one knew what the ointment was made of, but it carried a sweet fragrance.
As soon as it was applied, Little Wang wasn’t afraid of the pain anymore. It immediately pulled its tongue back in and rolled it around in its mouth.
Wang Bo exploded. “Your sister! Stick your tongue out!”
Little Wang looked at him innocently, then stuck out its tongue. It was completely clean—the ointment was already gone, leaving only the dense, fine backward-pointing barbs on the tongue and the white ulcerated surface.
Wang Bo angrily pointed at it, then at the ointment. “I’ll apply it again later. You dare eat it again and I’ll beat you to death!”
Little Wang looked at him timidly, its big eyes misty, as if it were about to cry from fright.
Wang Bo hardened his heart and reapplied some ointment. But the moment he withdrew his hand, Little Wang pulled its tongue back in again, still wearing that pitiful expression.
So angry he laughed, Wang Bo said, “Fine. You’re pretending to be pitiful, huh? You think I can’t outsmart a liger like you? Let me show you what a real veteran looks like!”
He thought for a moment, then went to find Hani. “Buddy, where’s your eye drops?”
Hani took them out. “Here. You want to use them?”
Wang Bo said, “Yeah. Buy another bottle later.”
Hani pulled out another one and laughed. “I prepared two.”
Wang Bo took that one too. “Any more?”
“Fako has some!”
These eye drops were for sterilization, not for relieving eye fatigue. No one knew the exact ingredients, but they were especially bitter. Sometimes, when you weren’t careful and they flowed to the corner of your mouth, the bitterness alone was enough to make you want to cry.
After bringing them back, Wang Bo pulled Little Wang’s tongue out again and started pouring.
Zhuang Ding and the chubby cat brothers also came over and sat in a neat row, sticking out their tongues and asking for medicine. The Princess even jumped up trying to snatch the bottle from his hand—Little Wang’s reaction had clearly made them think this stuff tasted good.
Wang Bo gave a wicked grin. “You all want some, huh? Sure, no problem at all. Come on, all of you, open your mouths!”
A whole line of big and small, pink, tender tongues stretched out. Even the Commander and the Commissar opened their mouths. Wang Bo quickly poured the eye drops onto each of their tongues.
Not one was missed—not a single one—so no one could say he was playing favorites.
Sure enough, Little Wang immediately pulled its tongue back in. The next second, this poor child’s eyes widened like soup bowls!
Wang Bo calmly sat behind his desk and began handling paperwork. In front of the desk, a group of fur kids squatted there with their mouths wide open, drooling furiously. The Princess kept sneezing.
The Commander flapped his wings and shouted, “Ah, I’m going to die! Ah, I’m going to die—”
Soon, a phone call came in. Elizabeth said cautiously, “Boss, someone is here to see you. I stopped him for now, but could you hurry?”
“Hurry with what?”
“I just heard constant ‘I’m dying, I’m dying’ sounds coming from your office…” Elizabeth said awkwardly.
Wang Bo was speechless. “Come in. It’s the Commander shouting. What nonsense are you thinking about all day?”
Elizabeth carefully pushed the door open and peeked inside. When she saw a bunch of fur kids with their mouths open and tears in their eyes, she asked in confusion, “What are they doing?”
Wang Bo said lazily, “Nothing. They’re having a drooling contest—seeing who can drool the most.”
Elizabeth clenched her fist and said to Little Wang, “Go, Little Wang! I believe in you—you’ll definitely win.”
Tears streamed down Little Wang’s face.
“So what is it?” Wang Bo asked.
Elizabeth immediately sat up straight. “Oh, right—Boss, a gentleman has come to visit you. New Zealand’s richest man, Halim Gode.”
