Happy Little Mayor 5 min read 1360 of 1443 9

Wang Bo was convinced this was an interesting business activity—at least for the kids.

Eva couldn’t think of a better idea, so she agreed to give it a try.

On Friday evening, Wang Bo picked up Dale from school.

She sat quietly in the back, hugging her small backpack. Eva asked, “Hey, Dale, now that you can rest, are you happy?”

Dale muttered, “Mm, happy.”

Instead of driving home, Wang Bo headed west.

After a while, Dale exclaimed in surprise, “Brother-in-law, you’re going the wrong way! Where are we going?”

“Going to sell you off,” Wang Bo said with a cheeky grin. “We don’t want you anymore.”

Dale froze at once. Her big eyes filled with tears, and she grabbed Eva’s clothes, her voice trembling with sobs: “Sister, don’t sell Dale! Dale’s been good, and Dale will behave even better from now on…”

Eva glared at Wang Bo, quickly pulling the girl into her arms. “Don’t listen to your naughty brother-in-law. How could I ever sell you? We’re just going out to eat—we’re not going home for dinner.”

“Or should we eat at home? What if you secretly leave after eating?” Dale wiped her tears and said.

Wang Bo smiled awkwardly. Clearly, he had neglected her since having the kid—she had become very sensitive.

“Actually, tonight we’re going to spend time as a little family of three—just the three of us. And I’ve planned an activity, see if you’re interested,” Wang Bo said, trying to make amends.

Dale weakly said, “I want to go home.”

“Eat first, then go home. Besides, with me, your sister, and you, isn’t this home enough?”

She asked, “What about the doll?”

“The doll is still a child. She doesn’t understand anything yet. When she grows up, she’ll be part of our family. But for now, it’s just the three of us.”

Wang Bo’s words were firm, but Eva knew he was telling a little white lie.

Summer in Cromwell was famous for its fruit dining, and Wang Bo didn’t contact any friends from the Quinoa Association. Eva booked a restaurant, and the three of them ate quietly.

After ordering, Wang Bo pulled out a proposal and said, “Dale, the town is planning to let the kids organize a children’s car wash, but we need a boss. Who do you think fits?”

Relieved she wouldn’t be “sent away,” Dale became lively. She lifted her head proudly: “Of course it’s me! Oh, what kind of car wash?”

Wang Bo explained: “Summer is busy for car washes. You’ll be the boss, I’ll be the manager, and we’ll hire a few child workers to wash cars. You’ll earn some pocket money.”

Dale hesitated. “Teacher said hiring child labor is illegal.”

“No problem. We won’t pay them, so technically, it’s not hiring,” Wang Bo said proudly.

Eva glared at him. “Don’t corrupt Dale! Be serious!”

Wang Bo shrugged. “Alright, I was joking, Dale. Anyway, you just need to manage your little teammates washing cars. Brother-in-law and sister will handle everything else.”

Eva kissed her gently. “That’s right, Dale. Sister and brother-in-law will always shelter you. We love you forever.”

Dale kissed her back with a smack and said happily, “Sister, Dale loves you forever too.”

Wang Bo grinned. “And me? Will you love me forever too? Come on, give me a kiss.”

Dale shook her head. “No, you’re different from my sister.”

“How am I different?” Wang Bo pouted. He had thought up and planned this activity!

Without hesitation, Dale said, “My sister will always be my sister, but you might not always be my brother-in-law.”

“What do you mean?” Wang Bo was flustered.

She said, “I’m not a child anymore. Of course I know that for parents, their biological children are the most important members of life. But if you say you can abandon a doll, then abandoning your wife isn’t impossible either!”

Wang Bo blinked. Eva nodded in agreement. “Dale is really no longer a child. Makes sense.”

“Sense my foot! I was just comforting her,” Wang Bo grumbled.

Eva looked at him innocently. “Now you know to be honest in front of kids, right? No more nonsense, okay?”

Dale: “Okay?”

Wang Bo gritted his teeth. “Okay!”

The children’s car wash was about to start. Wang Bo instructed Atulu, borrowing high-pressure hoses and tools from a friend’s repair shop—just a place to connect water was needed.

Choosing the store location had to follow the boss’s decision. Wang Bo asked, “Dale, where do you want the store?”

“What did you call me?” Dale frowned, arms crossed, adopting an authoritative stance with a bunch of little helpers behind her.

“You call her Boss Dale!” shouted Black Kid Ron.

Black kids’ physiques were naturally strong. Though still elementary school age, Ron was already muscular. With proper training, he would be a future athlete.

Wang Bo bowed repeatedly. “Yes, yes, Boss Dale. My slip of the tongue earlier. So, Boss Dale, where shall we open the store?”

Dale said, “What do you think?”

Wang Bo pointed to an intersection. “I think the corner of China Road and America Road is best. I know the restaurant owners there; we can tap water from their pipes.”

Dale shook her head and said seriously, “Sigh, with you as the manager, I have little confidence in our business. Can you think for yourself? Why must we open at a fixed location? Why not a mobile car wash?”

Wang Bo: “Huh?”

“Go ask Captain Marion Phelps to borrow a water truck. We’ll connect the hoses to it, and you drive while we find customers,” Dale suggested.

Wang Bo was stunned. That really was a good idea. His mind had been too rigid to think of it.

He had to admit, “Great idea, Boss Dale. You really have a business mind!”

Little nurse Roselie’s younger brother, Riola, rolled his eyes. “My sister says politicians just talk. After hearing the mayor, I believe her.”

Wang Bo ignored the kids’ comments. He went to Marion Phelps and brought out the water truck.

Marion helped connect the car wash hoses and asked, “Need my help?”

Wang Bo shook his head. “No, the kids and I can handle it.”

Dale cleared her throat. “You and who?”

“Me and my partners!”

“That’s more like it.”

Dale waved her hand, gathering everyone. “Let’s start. Manager Wang drives, Anriya and I handle publicity, Ron, X, and Riola—you work. Okay?”

“Very okay,” Wang Bo responded, taking the lead.
