HLM -Chapter 1199 Come as a Group

Happy Little Mayor 6 min read 1199 of 1443 36

Eva had nothing to do and seemed to have gotten addicted to trimming the little ones’ fur, chasing after the grown dogs with her clippers.

Dale, meanwhile, was curled up on the sofa, happily counting red envelopes. Piles of them surrounded her, and her face was brimming with pure joy.

Wang Bo lazily asked, “How many red envelopes did you get?”

Dale replied excitedly, “Almost ten thousand!”

Wang Bo was quite surprised. “That much? How much is missing? Your brother-in-law will make it up to round it off.”

Dale happily opened her wallet to show him. “Thanks, brother-in-law! Still missing 8,000.”

Wang Bo exclaimed, “What? You only got 2,000? That’s impossible!”

He handed her a thousand yuan. After all, he was officially her brother-in-law now since he married Eva, and the money from her parents was certainly more.

Dale handed him her small backpack. “Look, this is all the cash I have. The rest is not with me. Brother-in-law, adults should keep their promises, okay?”

Wang Bo, half-suspecting, took the backpack to look. There were plenty of red envelopes inside, but many were empty.

But his subordinates wouldn’t have given empty envelopes, so those must have been given to Eva or stored by her parents.

Realizing he couldn’t cheat, he wrote her a check and handed it over, warning, “Don’t use it recklessly, and don’t talk about it outside.”

Dale nodded happily. “I’ll keep it a secret. Dale’s little treasury won’t be known to anyone.”

After a while, Eva came back, hands on her waist, saying regretfully, “The grown dogs are so fast now. By the time I reached the door, they had disappeared at the foot of the hill.”

Wang Bo laughed. “They’re the champion sled dogs of the Iditarod.”

Dale’s big eyes darted around. She looked at Wang Bo, then Eva, and ran over hugging her backpack. “Sister, sister, I got a lot of red envelopes!”

Eva asked, “How many did you get?”

Dale said, “Almost twenty thousand.”

Wang Bo shook his head. This girl wanted to try the same trick again.

She was waiting for Eva to respond like Wang Bo. Instead, Eva widened her eyes. “How much? Twenty thousand? I worked a whole year and didn’t save this much. Give it here, I’ll keep it safe for you so you won’t waste it!”

That answer wasn’t right. Dale blinked. “Sister, can you answer again?”

Eva looked at her, puzzled. “Answer again? Hurry up, give me the money!”

Dale clutched her backpack. “No, I won’t give it! This is Dale’s little treasury!”

“You want a beating?” Eva rubbed her fists, ready to show her iron-woman side.

Recalling past dark times, the little girl sulked, “Don’t hit, sister, I’ll give it to you.”

Eva counted and frowned. “Only ten thousand. Where’s the other ten thousand?”

Dale nearly cried. “Only ten thousand, really.”

Eva lightly frowned. “I’ll give you one more chance to answer—where’s the other ten thousand? Friendly reminder: pregnant women aren’t exactly in a good mood.”

Dale trudged to her room and came out carrying a box.

Eva opened it to find it full of hundred-yuan bills.

“That’s better,” Eva said with a satisfied smile.

Wang Bo exclaimed, “Dale, you collected this much money just over New Year?”

Dale said in despair, “It’s all gone, all gone! Where’s any more money?”

Eva took two bills from the pile and put them in her pocket. “Alright, alright, New Year’s should be happy. Sister will leave you two bills. Come on, show me a smile.”

Dale didn’t want to smile, her eyes on the verge of tears.

Eva rubbed her fists again. “Oh, don’t want to smile? Then I’ll make you smile with a beating!”

Dale quickly forced a smile, and Wang Bo immediately understood the meaning behind that old saying: a smile even worse than crying.

Father Bo and Mother Bo laughed as they watched the two sisters play their little game. Seeing how much the little girl had saved, they were stunned as well.

In the end, Father Bo commented, “No wonder people in the past liked to fight the rich. Seeing a kid beat little Dale, I feel so satisfied.”

Seeing the little girl’s unhappy face, Eva hugged her and kissed her. “Alright, sister was just teasing. How could I want your money? I’ll save it for you. The interest is double the bank’s rate, okay? You can come ask me for the interest every day, and it will last for years.”

Dale timidly asked, “How much interest per day?”

“Calculate it yourself. Didn’t you learn math?”

After a bit of calculating, the little girl brightened. “The bank’s interest rate is 2.8%. Doubled, it’s 8.2%. On twenty thousand, that’s… hmm, a lot of money a day!”

Wang Bo was stunned. Damn, and they call this a prestigious school? Is the math teacher just the PE instructor?

It was the first day of the Lunar New Year. Many of his classmates and friends were sending him greetings. News of Zhang Rui moving to New Zealand and buying property had already spread, and many classmates were considering immigrating as well.

Wang Bo warmly welcomed them in the group chat. “Anyone who wants to come, come quickly. There’s a district in Auckland under development, lots of opportunities, and the housing prices are cheap.”

Zhou Haojie, recently married, said, “Why go to Auckland? Come to my Sunset Town. We can open a Chinese restaurant together. Survival is no problem, right?”

Fan Dong said, “I want to open a billiard hall. That’s my dream.”

He was excellent at billiards, having won a championship in university. That earned him a bit of fame.

Wang Bo said, “Not bad, Sunset Town doesn’t have a billiard hall. Come on, I’ll give you a house.”

“Really?”

“Wang Bo, you’re really giving away houses?”

“If everyone comes, I’ll go too. With so many of us, my English won’t even be a problem.”

The chat exploded.

Wang Bo said, “For classmates coming to Sunset Town, I’ll personally give each of you a house. Ordinary houses, not apartments.”

A classmate who hadn’t appeared for a long time asked, “Wang Bo, you’re not running a pyramid scheme in New Zealand, are you?”

Na Qingyang said, “No, no. We’re not. You’ll see it’s really profitable. I’ve been here two years and bought a villa in Auckland. Xingye came for over a year and bought a villa too.”

Li Xing said, “Yeah, Rui just arrived a few days ago and grabbed an apartment building—a four-bedroom, two-living room setup. Very good.”

Once he spoke, that classmate immediately went silent, and several others who had been excited earlier also disappeared.

Song Jiashu laughed. “Brother A, you’re something else, mischievous as always.”

They had been to Sunset Town and knew Wang Bo’s situation, while these usually silent classmates, who kept their distance, didn’t know anything about him.
