HLM – Chapter 1056 The Square Is Settled

Happy Little Mayor 6 min read 1056 of 1443 20

If given the choice, the Princess would definitely not jump on beds and burrow under blankets again just to attract the Fat Cats Brothers and make the Commander and Commissar act as her knights. As it turned out, a beauty getting on a bed and dancing wildly in front of two bachelors was simply humiliating herself.

The Fat Cats Brothers’ long-dormant reproductive enthusiasm suddenly unlocked itself. Whether it was the Princess’s silly blanket-burrowing performance that attracted them or something else, no one knew. But after Eva took the Princess away, the two let out unwilling cries.

While howling and whining, they searched everywhere for the Princess. When Er Pang couldn’t find her, he flopped onto the carpet and started rolling around like a ball.

But the pair were still playful by nature. Er Pang rolled around like a ball, and Da Pang stopped crying halfway, pounced on his brother’s soft, squishy belly, and started kneading it for fun. How could Er Pang tolerate that? The two immediately started wrestling again.

Wang Bo finally breathed a sigh of relief and secretly pulled the little Princess out. The Princess was just awakening to her feelings and vaguely understood how miserable things would be if she was discovered, so she hugged the pillow tightly and refused to let go.

Eva had no choice but to lift the blanket and let her hide inside, saying, “Honestly, letting her hide under the pillow is fine too.”

Wang Bo sighed. “Remember my buddy Zhong Dabao from my hometown? When he was little, their old hen hatched some chicks, and one of them was yellow, soft, and super cute.”

“Zhong Dabao loved that chick and treated it like a pet. At night, he put it in a little box and slept with it by his pillow. He loved waking up to see that fluffy chick beside him every morning.”

“Until one day… the chick jumped out and burrowed under the pillow. The next morning, he couldn’t find it, so he lifted the pillow—”

“Stop! I’m getting nauseous.” Eva paled instantly.

Things didn’t improve over the next few days. The Fat Cats Brothers had suddenly become obsessed with the Princess. They followed her everywhere, and the moment she was alone, they would immediately attempt a mountain-toppling tackle.

The Princess was on the brink of collapse, and Eva wasn’t far behind.

Looking at the two eager cats, Wang Bo cautiously suggested, “If worse comes to worst… should we just let them enjoy themselves? I mean, our Da Pang and Er Pang are pretty handsome too. They’re all felines anyway, right?”

Eva snapped, “So what if they’re both felines? They’re not the same species! The difference between them is bigger than the difference between you and a gorilla. Since you’re also a ‘handsome male,’ would you like to go have a go with a gorilla?”

Wang Bo gave a dry laugh. “Better not. I don’t want to make you wear a green hat.”

Eva glared. “Watch these two little idiots closely. I don’t want to witness them tormenting the Princess.”

Wang Bo felt this was an extremely difficult task. The way the Fat Cats Brothers looked at the Princess was exactly how he used to look at Eva.

Terrified, the Princess refused to be alone for the next several days. She stuck to Eva or Dale—she trusted no one else.

Finally, the Fat Cats Brothers couldn’t hold back anymore. One day, as the Princess followed Dale, the two stormed over aggressively, attempting an East-Wind-over-West-Wind attack.

Dale was enraged. All the elegant, ladylike mannerisms she’d painstakingly cultivated recently disappeared instantly. Like Messi taking a shot, she swung her foot and kicked Da Pang like a football, sending him flying.

Then she stepped on Er Pang, grabbed him by the scruff of his neck, and lifted him up. “What are you two trying to do? Two loser cats daring to fantasize about my rich and beautiful Princess?”

Er Pang whimpered and kicked his stubby legs, furious: Who are you calling loser cats? Who’s a cat? We’re Pallas’s cats! We’re kings of the ice fields! We’re the warrior tribe of felines!

But after being disciplined by Dale, both became much more obedient. Even so, their squinting little eyes occasionally darted at the snow fox Princess, making her shiver every time.

In early August, the weather improved. After the heavy snowfall, sunlight-filled days returned.  That meant some town projects could resume, and the central square was the main one.

Sunset Town still had no large square, so the central square needed careful attention. Once several planning designs were completed, Wang Bo gathered his staff for a meeting.

Given the positioning of Sunset Town, the planned square was enormous—one kilometer long and one kilometer wide, totaling a full square kilometer.

That was huge. For example, the famous Tiananmen Square was only 440,000 square meters—880 meters long and 500 meters wide—smaller than Sunset Square.

However, according to the design, the square would primarily be decorated with greenery, and later buildings, sculptures, and shops would gradually fill in. The actual open plaza would be no more than 25% of the area; most of it would become green belts.

Looking at the drawing, McGee hesitantly asked, “Can this really be completed with just two million?”

Just laying stone pavement for the square might cost a million.

Wang Bo said, “Phase one is two million. Later phases will be funded by the town’s own output. With Sunset Town’s development speed, this is no problem.”

McGee was stunned. “This is only phase one?”

“Phase one is enough to establish the square,” Wang Bo said. “Didn’t you notice the square’s style? We’re keeping the original terrain, which drastically reduces cost.”

Bowen gave him a strange look. “Besides, the investment comes from town finances. Why do you care how many phases there are?”

McGee signaled to Ralph Jackson. Jackson cleared his throat and said, “Town Mayor, Deputy Mayor—Sunset Town’s development needs national support. After reviewing investment reports from past years, McGee noticed that the government’s investment has been too little. Thanks to his efforts, the National Party is willing to invest in the central square project.”

Wang Bo looked at McGee in surprise. McGee responded with a confident smile.

But Wang Bo immediately shook his head. “No need. I invested several tens of millions to build the airport. Same for the town-wide sewage system. Same for the transportation system. As for the few-million network system—there are so many projects like that I’ve lost count.”

McGee froze. “You’re refusing government funding?”

Wang Bo shrugged. “Of course. According to the design plan, the square will feature a statue of the person who funded its construction!”

At those words, everyone became excited. Atulu raised his hand. “I’ll invest ten thousand!”

“Get lost. I’m putting in a hundred thousand!” Uncle Bing shouted.

Sunset Town had never erected a statue of anyone before. And with the fame and foot traffic the town now had, a statue there would carry special meaning.

McGee understood this immediately. “Phase one needs two million. Our National Party is willing to invest in the entire project. How much for all phases? We can afford it!”
