Gu Hua received a letter from Zhao Luoxuan and waved it excitedly in her hands as she dashed straight to Mu Junyan’s study.
“Xuanxuan is pregnant… she’s really pregnant.”
She had just finished speaking when she suddenly stopped in her tracks.
Inside the room, a young man with his back to her turned around at the sound of her voice and smiled brightly at her.
Gu Hua saw his face clearly and exclaimed in surprise, “Chu Huai? What are you doing here?”
Chu Huai stepped forward and cupped his hands in a formal greeting: “Chu Huai, newly appointed Recording Officer of Juzhou, pays respects to the Princess.”
“Recording Officer? You passed the imperial exams?”
Gu Hua looked over the young man before her with delight.
Chu Huai was already sixteen; his facial features were well-defined, his skin pale as snow, and the boyish innocence had faded, replaced by a scholarly elegance.
Yet his bright, sparkling eyes remained unchanged.
“Princess, last year I placed third in the spring imperial examination and entered the Hanlin Academy. I have now been specially dispatched to serve in Juzhou,” he said with a clear, enthusiastic tone, full of eager anticipation.
Gu Hua nodded happily. “Only sixteen and already ranked third in the imperial exams? Well done!”
Mu Junyan, who had somehow appeared at her side, blocked Chu Huai’s burning gaze with his broad shoulder and smiled. “Chu Huai hasn’t met our children yet, has he?”
Chu Huai stiffened slightly but quickly smiled: “No, I heard that the Prince and Princess were blessed with a pair of twins. I wanted to offer my congratulations but never had the chance. Now I truly hope to see them—may I be so fortunate?”
“Of course,” Gu Hua said, trying to tug Mu Junyan aside.
He was too tall, and his shoulder completely blocked her view.
Mu Junyan turned fully in front of her, speaking in an incredibly soft voice: “I’ll take him to see the babies. You should go rest.”
Gu Wan: “…”
Chu Huai was startled: “The Prince is busy with state affairs; I could have been escorted by a servant.”
Mu Junyan turned, his tall figure looming over the slightly shorter Chu Huai, enveloping him with an invisible, suffocating authority.
With a gentle smile, he said, “Chu Huai has traveled a long way to the Prince’s Mansion. I must personally entertain him. I’ll take you myself.”
Chu Huai stammered, “Th-th-thank you, Your Highness.”
Gu Hua pursed her lips in a smile and turned to Dong Qing: “I still have things to discuss with the Prince. You take Chu Huai to see the children.”
Dong Qing bowed: “Yes, Your Highness.”
Chu Huai let out a sigh of relief and quickly followed Dong Qing without daring to look back.
Gu Hua glanced sideways at Mu Junyan and reached out her delicate hand to hook his palm.
He instantly held her playful hand and leaned down, staring at her: “I see this kid has a mischievous heart. He dared to keep staring at you just now.”
Gu Hua pouted: “Why are you jealous? He’s just a child.”
Mu Junyan wrapped her in a long embrace, pressing her into his chest: “Even a child can’t stare at you. You’re mine.”
Gu Wan, pressed against him, gasped and pushed him: “Mm-mm-mm, yes, I’m yours.”
Mu Junyan wasn’t done. He pointed at his own face: “Prove it.”
Gu Hua blushed, glancing around at all the people nearby, and whispered: “There are so many people…”
Mu Junyan waved his hand behind him, and everyone immediately turned and floated away.
Gu Wan: “…”
She murmured to herself, “Was that really necessary?”
“I insist,” Mu Junyan said stubbornly.
Gu Hua stared at him in disbelief: “What did you say?”
The tone was almost unbelievable coming from him.
“I said I insist, alright?”
Mu Junyan brought his face close to her lips, his low, husky, gentle voice stirring Gu Wan’s heart.
Flustered, she hurriedly kissed him.
But her chin was immediately clamped by him.
“Not enough.”
“Mm~”
Before she could say anything, he covered her mouth.
She was only released after being pressed into his arms, nearly breathless.
Dizzy and almost unable to stand, Gu Hua was steadied by Mu Junyan, who chuckled lowly: “Can’t handle it already? Could it be that I haven’t been properly taking care of my wife these past couple of days?”
Embarrassed and angry, Gu Hua glared at him, her eyes glistening.
“You… as the father of children and a mighty warrior prince, you seem like a completely different man.”
“Who told me I got such a captivating, enchanting wife?”
“Ah, you’re getting more and more outrageous.”
Gu Hua pounded him in anger, but his muscles were too strong, causing her hands to hurt.
Already overwhelmed by shame and anger, she couldn’t help but shed tears.
Mu Junyan laughed, then quickly stopped, fearing he might really anger her, but still let out a low chuckle and scooped her up, sitting down and placing her on his lap, soothing her softly.
“I truly love you, Hua’er.”
Blushing, Gu Hua glanced at him: “And in the future?”
“For a lifetime.”
“You promise?”
“Of course,” Mu Junyan held up three fingers: “If I ever stray, may I…”
Gu Hua quickly covered his mouth: “Nonsense! No need to swear, I trust you.”
Satisfied, Mu Junyan wrapped her in his arms and pressed his face to hers.
Gu Wan, all heated and aroused, hugged his head and kissed him back.
After a long time, they reluctantly parted, her lips red and swollen.
Mu Junyan gently pressed her lips with his finger: “Does it hurt?”
Gu Hua was about to smile, but feeling her lips on the verge of splitting, she stopped and pouted softly, looking like she might cry.
Mu Junyan laughed again: “Who made you greedy?”
Was it her fault?
Gu Wan, annoyed, pushed him away, but couldn’t move him. She had no choice but to nestle in his arms to rest.
At noon, Mu Junyan held a banquet to welcome Chu Huai.
Seeing Gu Wan’s lips, Chu Huai quickly lowered his head, not daring to look.
Dong Qing served her a bowl of hot soup, which Mu Junyan handed to himself.
“The Princess shouldn’t eat anything too hot these past few days. Take something lukewarm.”
Only then did Dong Qing notice Gu Wan’s red and swollen lips.
The maidservants didn’t dare to make a sound or even look, so they prepared a milder, lukewarm soup instead.
Gu Hua glared at him.
Chu Huai kept his head down, not daring to raise it.
Mu Junyan kindly added a chicken leg for him: “Eat this.”
Chu Huai anxiously stood to thank him.
“Sit. You’re like Hua’er’s younger brother; no need for formality.”
Mu Junyan smiled and turned to Gu Ruiwen and Gu Jinwen, who were accompanying them.
“You two must take good care of Chu Huai. He’s already ranked third in the imperial exams at such a young age; you should learn from him.”
Gu Ruiwen and Gu Jinwen quickly poured wine and served dishes to Chu Huai.
For a while, Chu Huai could hardly attend to anything else.
Soon, all three young men were slightly tipsy.
Gu Hua had to instruct Dong Mo to prepare the guest rooms quickly and settle them first.
She then turned to Mu Junyan and punched him again: “Why are you bullying a child?”
Mu Junyan held her fist: “I’m not bullying a child, I’m bullying my wife.”
“You…”
Gu Hua regretted it.
After a night of tossing and turning, she was exhausted. Just as the rooster crowed, Mu Junyan finally released her, holding her in his arms as they fell into a deep sleep.
The next day, Gu Hua woke up late again.
She sat on the bed, speechless, watching the maids work quietly while suppressing their laughter, glancing at the sky.
Who could have told her that a man who had been abstinent for decades would be this terrifying once he woke up?
The main problem: his stamina was too formidable.
After a sleepless night, she had become a puddle of weakness, letting him exhaust her. She had no energy to speak.
But him? Early in the morning, he could still practice swordplay, then head to the military camp.
It seemed she needed to train properly herself.
At least so she would have the strength to resist when she wanted to.
