Yu Hui didn’t let out his last breath after all. With a flushed face, eyes tightly shut, and mustering all his courage, he began to sing the first line: “Where is spring, where is spring? Spring is in the eyes of little children…”

The little guy sang earnestly, but he didn’t dare lift his gaze to look at the other kids. He didn’t dare make eye contact with anyone. He just stared fixedly at the table, his tiny hands gripping the edge tightly.

But when he sang at home with his mom, he liked to look around, especially at her eyes. So as he slowly got into the flow, his little head naturally lifted, and—without meaning to—his eyes met Fang Man’s.

His tiny heart skipped a beat for a second or two, but when he received Teacher Manman’s encouraging and gentle gaze, the tension in his chest slowly eased. In the end, he actually finished the whole song, not missing a single word.

Clap clap clap!

A round of enthusiastic applause echoed through the classroom. Xiao Jiujiu’s eyes were crinkled with joy, “I knew it! Yu Hui can sing this song! He’s amazing!”

The chubby boy chimed in excitedly, “Yu Hui sings so well! I want to hear it again!”

“Yu Hui is amazing! I think he sings beautifully!”

“He didn’t lie!”

“That’s right! Yu Hui didn’t lie!”

The kids chimed in one after another, successfully calming Yu Hui’s nervous heart. He turned his head to glance at Xu Rui—who had an unhappy look written all over his face—but he didn’t say anything. After all, the whole class was praising Yu Hui. If he said Yu Hui didn’t sing well…

Wouldn’t that mean he was deaf? Besides, though he didn’t want to admit it, Yu Hui really did sing beautifully. Honestly, he could even go toe to toe with Teacher Manman.

This kid can sing. Hmph!

Today, Yu Hui became the center of attention in the class. The teacher had just taught three songs, and he knew all of them!

Fang Man was beyond surprised. She knew this was all thanks to Yu Wei. Turns out, Yu Wei really was a devoted mother who took education seriously—more than she’d expected.

Children naturally love to sing and dance, but most parents these days didn’t teach their kids songs. Yu Hui was truly a pleasant surprise.

The more she thought about it, the more she realized—wasn’t this a perfect opportunity?

A chance to help Yu Hui’s introverted personality change just a little!

An idea flashed through Fang Man’s mind: she asked Yu Hui to be a little teacher and teach the other kids to sing!

Once the words left her mouth, Yu Hui instantly became the most eye-catching person in the class. All the children were obedient, and since Yu Hui was good-looking and they had just witnessed his singing skills, no one raised any objections.

And just like that—Little Teacher Yu Hui’s Singing Class officially began!

For Yu Hui, this class was a magical experience—an unforgettable one-of-a-kind moment in his life.

At just four years old, he actually became a little teacher and taught his classmates how to sing. Not only did no one dislike him, no one was jealous or mean. Instead, everyone sat eagerly on their tiny stools, following along with him line by line.

He was a bit nervous, standing in the middle of a circle of children with Teacher Manman holding his hand. Under everyone’s eager eyes, he sang “Where Is Spring?”, “Little Swallow,” and “Little Conch Shell.”

But after teaching the songs twice, Yu Hui didn’t want to continue. He had noticed that a few boys under the podium hadn’t opened their mouths at all—it really annoyed him.

Now he finally understood why Teacher Fang Man had earlier paused to ask him why he wasn’t singing along. So this was what it felt like. Not good at all!

But even so, he was still very happy. When he returned to his seat, he noticed that everyone was looking at him differently.

In their eyes, he saw admiration, excitement, respect… and even a bit of envy.

But in his heart, he had only one thought: he always knew—his mom was the best mom in the world!

Yu Hui’s second day of school went a lot more smoothly than the first. So much so that when Yu Wei arrived with his bunny-shaped lunch box to check on him, she hadn’t even stepped through the classroom door before her sharp-eyed little guy spotted her.

Like an arrow, he dashed past the other kids and shot straight into Yu Wei’s arms.

Yu Wei wasn’t prepared and was nearly knocked over by her excited son, almost losing grip of the lunch box in her hands.

“Huihui, you missed me that much?”

Yu Hui was over the moon. His little face still carried a deep blush, and his already warm body was practically burning up. When Yu Wei placed her cool hand on his cheek, it felt incredibly comforting.

She guided her son to a seat and handed over the bunny lunch box.

The little guy took it with delight, glancing at his mom again and again, as if he wanted to say something but held back. It was almost funny how shy he looked.

Xiao Jiujiu was happily eating the food her aunt had packed for her, but the moment Yu Hui’s bunny lunch box was opened, the food in her mouth suddenly didn’t taste as good.

The kids sitting around Yu Hui all flared their nostrils and took a deep breath in unison. Even if they couldn’t eat it, just smelling it brought a little satisfaction.

They all wanted to ask Yu Hui’s mom: Why does her food smell so good? It was even better than the food at a state-run restaurant!

Yu Wei found a spare stool and sat behind Yu Hui, resting her face in her hands with a smile as she watched her son eat so happily. But something was different today—the little guy kept smiling as he ate and kept turning back to glance at her. Every time she caught him, he would quickly turn his head away in embarrassment.

After finishing her meal, Xiao Jiujiu wiped her mouth and chirped in her sweet little voice as she turned to Yu Wei: “Yu Hui’s mom! Yu Hui was our little teacher today!”

“Little teacher?” Yu Wei was curious. “What kind of little teacher?”

Talking about this, Xiao Jiujiu was even more excited than Yu Hui himself. Her two buns bounced adorably as she nodded.

“Yu Hui knows so many songs, so Teacher Manman asked him to be our little teacher and teach us how to sing! And he sings so so well!”

Yu Hui’s little face, which had just finally cooled down, was instantly flushed again by Xiao Jiujiu’s words. But he forced himself to stay calm, putting on an indifferent expression as if he didn’t care at all, and continued eating the delicious bento his mom had made.

Yu Wei immediately understood—so this was the reason for her son’s unusual behavior today!

She was thoroughly amused. Stretching out her long arm, she gave Yu Hui a pat on the back. “Oh my, my son is just too capable! Already playing little teacher—amazing!”

Yu Hui kept scooping up rice with a grin on his lips, his head nearly buried in the lunchbox. His eyes were bright and shiny, dazzling Xiao Jiujiu completely.

She added, praising him to Yu Wei, “Yu Hui really is amazing.”

Yu Wei nodded in agreement. “Our Yu Hui really is impressive. Who would’ve thought that on just his second day, he’d be brave enough to teach the kids a song? Now Mama’s not worried at all.”

Looking at his son’s little head bobbing as he happily ate, she thought if there were a tuft of grass growing on top of it, it’d probably be swaying smugly right now.

Sure enough, the little guy couldn’t hold it in and turned to Yu Wei to say, “Mama, don’t worry about me.”

“Not worried, not worried. My son is so good and so capable, of course I’m at ease!”

Only then did Yu Hui turn back around, satisfied, and continued eating.

After such a happy morning, when Yu Wei packed up the lunchbox and turned to leave, the little guy only sulked for a moment before quickly bouncing back.

He walked his mom to the kindergarten gate, leaned against the railing, and waved at her.

“Mama, come pick me up early this afternoon, okay? Don’t be late!”

Yu Wei blew him a kiss. “Okay! Mama will definitely come early!”

The little guy, with the fluffy puff on his head, ran back into the classroom all cheerful, instantly surrounded by kids wanting to chat with him.

From ancient times to now, people with good looks have always been liked by others—especially those who are not only good-looking but also talented. They naturally draw affection from those around them.

Yu Hui was exactly that kind of presence in Class 2.

Meanwhile, Yu Wei returned to her shop in high spirits. She hadn’t eaten yet because she was in a rush earlier. Only when she got home did she realize how sore her thighs were and how empty her stomach felt.

Looks like getting a bicycle had become urgent.

Yu Wei was someone who always acted fast. Since she had made up her mind, she planned to close the shop after eating and head to the department store to buy a bike, so she could push it to pick up her son in the afternoon.

How delightful.

She hadn’t even bought the bike yet, but she was already daydreaming about her son’s surprised expression when she showed up riding it.

The department store was quite a distance from Yu Wei’s dessert shop. Walking there took her more than half an hour, and by the time she arrived, her legs were about to give out.

That just strengthened her resolve to buy a bike.

Because Yu Wei often brought her son to this department store and was known to be a generous spender, many of the salesclerks were already familiar with her. The moment they saw this “wealthy patron” return, several of them came up to greet her.

It was a weekday during off-hours, so there were barely any customers—more clerks than shoppers, actually. That’s why they were all available to come greet her.

“Looking for something in particular?”

“Hi, I’d like to buy a bicycle. Do you have anything suitable for women?”

“Yes, right this way.”

Yu Wei glanced around as she followed the clerk to the bicycle section. Sure enough, bicycles—being a hot commodity—were fully stocked here. A wide variety of models and sizes, enough to make anyone’s eyes go blurry.

“Could you recommend one for me? Preferably easy to ride, and with a back seat for carrying a child.”

The clerk scanned the options, then led Yu Wei to one side and pointed to a low-frame bicycle. “How about this one? It’s compact, suitable for women, comes with a back seat and a front basket for storage.”

Yu Wei wasn’t too familiar with bikes. It was just a mode of transportation to her. Once cars became more common, she’d save up for one of those. For now, she just needed something practical to get around.

“This one looks nice. What brand is it?” she asked casually. After all, she wasn’t from this era—she only vaguely recognized some older brand names.

The clerk glanced at the logo and said without hesitation, “Phoenix.”

Phoenix? Yu Wei’s eyes lit up. She actually remembered this brand—seemed like it was a pretty reputable one. Alright then, this would do!

“How much is it?”

“263,” replied the clerk.

Yu Wei nodded, then pointed casually to another bike without a back seat. “How about this one?”

“228.”

“And this one?”

The clerk was starting to get a little impatient. “237.”

Noticing the attitude, Yu Wei decided not to ask further. She pointed at the first one and said decisively, “Okay, I’ll take that one!”

The clerk, who had just been inwardly annoyed, immediately perked up and took her to the cashier.

“Sister Zhang, checkout!”

“What are they buying?” came a high-pitched voice from a back room.

“Bicycle. Model 5-254, Phoenix brand,” the clerk called out.

“Alright, 263,” Sister Zhang glanced at Yu Wei, signaling her for the payment.

Yu Wei silently sighed—So expensive! That was nearly half a year’s salary for an average worker! She felt a small pang of pain spending so much all at once.

But money wasn’t an issue for her, so she pulled out the 400 yuan she had brought and counted out 263 yuan to hand over.

Sister Zhang spat into her palm and started counting the money. The sight made Yu Wei’s heart skip—Ugh, money is so dirty… But of course, she didn’t say that out loud.

“Alright, it’s correct. Take her to collect the bike.”

The clerk took Yu Wei to pick up the bicycle. The moment she got her hands on it, she was thrilled. Now she had a proper mode of transportation in the 80s! No more walking on “Bus 11” (i.e., using her legs) every day. She felt a little emotional for no reason.

She swung one leg over the bike in a smooth motion, and under the watchful eyes of the clerks, she whooshed away in a flash.

“Damn!” Yu Wei accidentally blurted out, “Was this thing made by Maofu or something? It’s so smooth!”

It really couldn’t be compared to that rickety old bike at Niu Zhongshi’s house that creaked constantly. This new one glided along like a dream!

No doubt about it—expensive bikes were expensive for a reason. It felt like she was riding the wind itself. Smooth and effortless. Totally worth it!

Today, Yu Wei was wearing a light red knit dress with a loose white wool sweater on top, paired with black knit leggings and gray leather ankle boots. As she rode through streets and alleys, her flowing skirt fluttered in the wind, drawing plenty of attention.

A gray sedan happened to drive by. In the driver’s seat, Chen Liang pointed excitedly toward a woman up ahead with waterfall-like black hair.

“Boss! Isn’t that Boss Yu?!”

Huo Mingwang glanced over with a faint look in his eyes. His expression clearly said: So what? Why are you so worked up?

Chen Liang gave an awkward chuckle and instinctively pressed the gas a bit harder. As they zoomed past the woman on the bike, Huo Mingwang frowned slightly—just a flash of red passed before his eyes, and he seemed to catch a familiar, refreshing scent.

Even though the windows were tightly shut…
