“Deal!”
He was afraid someone else might swoop in and take the offer.
But when he turned around, he saw the other customers looking at him as if they were watching a joke unfold.
Then he looked at the fat man. The fellow sucked in his stomach, stepped into the spot he had just bought, and wore an expression that screamed I just hit the jackpot.
“Brother, you’re going to regret this.”
Someone patted the man’s shoulder, giving him a meaningful look.
The man curled his lips in disbelief.
Now that he was a “free man,” he simply walked toward the stall. He wanted to see what was so special about these skewers that had everyone going crazy.
Lu Wu never cared about cost-effectiveness when choosing ingredients. She always used the best materials available.
Even a simple clear broth was prepared with great care.
The milky-white soup glistened with oil. The pure aroma of meat, untouched by heavy seasonings, was irresistible to customers who preferred lighter flavors.
The bone broth alone looked appetizing, let alone the skewers constantly soaking up its essence.
And if paired with Lu Wu’s specially prepared dipping sauces?
One glance was enough to make people kneel and sing songs of surrender.
“Your clear-broth skewers are ready. Be careful, they’re hot.”
Knowing her customers were all impatient, Lu Wu kindly reminded him.
“Don’t worry, Boss Lu. I’m not afraid of heat.”
The customer laughed heartily. The moment he got his skewers, he hurried out of the line and stuffed one into his mouth.
It was as though he feared someone might snatch them away.
In reality, more and more people in the queue were staring with green eyes.
It was already deep into the night, and these lucky people were openly poisoning them with delicious aromas while their own turn remained nowhere in sight. How could they not be bitter?
“You brat, I’ve got my eye on you.”
Someone glared fiercely and issued a threat.
The target only grinned, completely unconcerned.
They all belonged to the same sect. Everyone knew each other’s habits.
Sooner or later, the tables would turn and he’d be the one getting flaunted at. Might as well collect some interest now.
The customers gathered together and ate. Everyone had ordered different skewers, yet nobody was willing to share.
Each person guarded their food like treasure.
Only the fragrance continued to spread.
And because he couldn’t eat any himself, the man who had sold his place found his sense of smell becoming even sharper.
Watching the blissful expressions of the diners and feeling the endless saliva flooding his mouth, he regretted everything.
The emotion was written plainly across his face.
But nobody cared.
What a joke. Feeling sorry for someone like him was far less important than feeling sorry for their own unsatisfied stomachs.
Besides, they had seen this type countless times before.
Watching these people get slapped in the face by reality had become part of the entertainment of eating Boss Lu’s food.
“I was wondering if I could—”
He approached the wealthy fat man and had barely opened his mouth before being interrupted.
“No.”
“Even if you offer more money, you won’t be buying this spot back.”
The fat man rubbed his belly and smiled like a Maitreya Buddha, a trace of cunning hidden in his expression.
He was a veteran customer.
And the reason he always managed to get food was simple: he spent heavily buying the places of people who lacked foresight, then sat back and enjoyed watching them drown in regret.
It was a hobby he never grew tired of.
Humming cheerfully, the fat man advanced with the line, leaving the other man standing there with his 1,500 spirit stones and a heart full of remorse.
The food sales continued.
The alley, which should have been silent at this hour, was bustling with life.
With such a huge commotion, there was no way the people from Heaven and Earth Casino wouldn’t notice.
In fact, Steward Zhu had been watching from the moment Lu Wu appeared.
The more he thought about yesterday, the stranger it seemed.
How had a single skewer caused him to lose all rationality and agree to let Boss Lu stay outside the casino?
Today he had originally planned to use some methods to drive her away.
But then all these customers showed up.
The crowd was enormous.
To avoid any accidents, he couldn’t make any drastic moves.
In the end, he could only silently permit Lu Wu to continue her business.
As the fire was lit, the broth heated, and the skewers entered the pot, the familiar fragrance brought back memories of yesterday’s astonishment.
“Leave it alone.”
After giving this order to his subordinates, Steward Zhu changed his appearance and joined the queue himself.
With so many people around, pretending to be a fool probably wouldn’t work.
Might as well line up honestly.
“I want spicy. Extra spicy. As spicy as possible!”
He emphasized repeatedly.
The wave of heat that exploded through his body whenever fiery spice filled his mouth was something he adored.
When Lu Wu heard the request, she met a pair of eyes brimming with “wisdom.”
Kind of like that fool from yesterday.
Thinking this, she decisively dropped his skewers into the spicy red-oil broth.
As the ingredients gradually became coated in a glossy red sheen, she gently stirred the pot.
Inside, a bundle of enoki mushrooms unfurled like a giant net, conveniently trapping all the floating chili peppers.
“Enough?”
Lu Wu added another mountain of chilies into the dipping sauce.
Red, white, green, and purple peppers combined into a dazzling display of colors, making the bowl somehow look even more expensive.
“Perfect!”
Steward Zhu accepted his skewers.
Originally, he had intended to return to the casino.
But after seeing customers squatting on the ground, eating and chatting casually, he hesitated and stayed.
“Hey brother, is the casino open?”
A familiar-looking customer happened to spot him and asked casually.
“It’s open.”
Steward Zhu examined the man’s face and nodded, deep in thought.
The quota was still slightly short.
Perhaps he could recruit the remaining numbers from among these customers.
Wasn’t this a gift delivered right to his doorstep?
“Oh? Can I go in and have a look?”
Having just finished eating, the customer felt bursting with energy and wanted some activity to help digest.
“You can.”
The look in Steward Zhu’s eyes changed.
Were people really this eager to get scammed these days?
He hadn’t even started tempting them yet, and they were already volunteering themselves.
“Great. Enjoy your meal. I’ll go take a look.”
“I’m coming too. Haven’t gambled in ages. Let’s play a few rounds.”
“Being able to eat Boss Lu’s food today means it’s definitely my lucky day. Time to win big!”
“You? More likely you’ll lose everything down to your belt.”
The group teased one another.
They came from all corners of the world.
Though they only occasionally gathered because of Boss Lu’s food, they interacted naturally and comfortably.
The casino doors opened.
A wave of customers poured inside.
The luxurious interior immediately piqued their interest, and they eagerly prepared to showcase their gambling skills.
Outside the entrance, Steward Zhu watched them go and revealed a wicked grin.
“Heh heh heh… lost little lambs.”
“Once you enter my casino, don’t even think about leaving.”
With this new batch of victims, they might be able to evacuate even earlier than expected.
Thinking of his performance metrics skyrocketing, Boss Zhu casually wiped the grease from his hands and continued his villainous laughter.
“City Lord, should we intervene?”
Someone in the crowd asked Cang Heguang, who had once again changed his appearance.
Originally, they had planned to disguise themselves as customers, buy skewers, and then enter the casino pretending to be newly arrived gamblers.
As long as they could bring the skewers inside, the aroma alone might awaken some of the gamblers who had only recently fallen under the casino’s influence.
But they had never expected Boss Lu’s customer traffic to explode after just one night.
There were simply too many people.
Before their plan could even begin, it had already been disrupted.
The number of victims was increasing rapidly.
A disastrous start to the mission.
