“You carry the burden, I ride the horse… dare ask where the road lies? The road lies beneath our feet…”
The horribly off-key singing became the main soundtrack of the mountain path.
After serving all of her customers, Lu Wu took advantage of their post-milk-tea “sage mode” and grabbed her stall to make a run for it.
After many rounds of battle, her customers had become increasingly crafty.
Some refused to let her leave even after all the ingredients were sold out. There were even scheming boys and girls who brought their own ingredients up the mountain, hoping Lu Wu would keep working.
Reject overtime—starting with me!
This mountain trail had actually been secretly recommended by Chan Yu after seeing how relentlessly she was being pestered.
The price was simple: let him be first in line tomorrow.
A trivial matter.
Thus, Lu Wu happily accepted the PY transaction.
The scenery along the trail was beautiful. With her Big Wings freeing her from the burden of walking, Lu Wu leisurely flew at low altitude, admiring the landscape and cultivating her artistic sensibilities.
Just look at all this soothing green. Much better than those indecent shades of yellow.
“La la la!”
Humming merrily and swinging her legs, Lu Wu completely let herself go in the empty mountain forest.
Her singing grew ever more passionate.
At least, that was how Lu Wu saw it.
To every other living creature, however, it was pure sonic torture.
The bizarre singing echoed through the mountains, startling birds and beasts alike and sending them fleeing from the tone-deaf menace.
“Tsk, I’m amazing!”
Giving herself encouragement where no one could hear.
The smile on Lu Wu’s face widened. Just as she prepared to launch into another song, a thunderous roar shook the earth.
“ROAR!”
The howl made her tremble.
Her eyes instantly widened as she scanned her surroundings.
Her concert wasn’t selling tickets, so please don’t come looking for her!
Unfortunately, reality rarely matched one’s wishes.
As Lu Wu prayed desperately, strange sounds emerged from the forest.
And they were getting closer.
Rustle, rustle…
Something was moving through the woods, its body brushing against branches.
Meeting a tiger blocking the road in a place like this—
My life ends here!
At that moment, Lu Wu was genuinely beginning to suspect that Chan Yu had deliberately sent her here so he could inherit her estate.
“Old Li next door, are you there?”
When in doubt, call Old Li.
But Old Li didn’t answer.
Instead, a massive tiger-like head emerged in response.
Its black-and-white striped fur was beautiful, but its enormous size made Lu Wu feel like it could sit on her and kill her in one move.
A demon beast.
Even with spiritual power sealed, demon beasts possessed naturally powerful physiques.
Killing her would be as easy as chopping a melon.
Separated by about ten meters, the white-tiger-like beast poked its head out and stared at Lu Wu. Its golden eyes seemed to be weighing something.
“Brother Tiger, I’m just passing through. How about letting me go?”
Lu Wu raised her hands in surrender while begging for mercy.
She put on her most professional smile, attempting to persuade him.
Brother Tiger merely tilted his head and looked at her, confusion flickering in his sharp eyes.
This human doesn’t seem very smart.
But she smells so good.
Its nose twitched.
The scent was so enticing that the beast unconsciously bared its sharp fangs.
Snow-white teeth.
The kind that looked capable of biting straight through her neck.
Lu Wu’s heart pounded.
Calling for backup wasn’t working.
Maybe…
The best strategy was one of the Thirty-Six Stratagems: retreat.
“Big Wings, I’m counting on you.”
She patted Big Wings, signaling it to prepare for full-power takeoff.
Everyone knew that two legs couldn’t outrun four.
But four legs definitely couldn’t beat wings.
By that logic, her chances of survival were excellent.
Just as Lu Wu prepared to explode into action, the beast suddenly turned around and disappeared into the forest behind it.
It didn’t go far, however.
The noises continued.
And were getting closer again.
Could this beast be calling reinforcements too?
“Ready…”
She gave the command and prepared for takeoff.
Then she saw the beast dragging a human by the collar toward her.
The person was covered in blood, making their appearance impossible to discern.
With her poor observational skills, Lu Wu genuinely couldn’t figure out how someone could end up with such a bizarre collection of wounds.
It looked like they had undergone severe torture.
“Roar!”
After dragging the person out, the beast stopped a short distance from Lu Wu and nudged the human corpse—
No, body.
Because Lu Wu could still see a faint rise and fall in the person’s chest.
There was still one breath left in them.
“You want me to save someone?”
Lu Wu guessed.
The beast shook its head.
It can communicate?!
“Then do you want me to help process your ingredients?”
Lu Wu seriously considered the possibility.
The beast shook its head again.
“Don’t tell me you’re inviting me to dine with you? Thanks, but no thanks.”
Her diet was broad.
Not that broad.
“ROAR!”
After listening to this human ramble endlessly without getting anywhere near the point, the beast finally roared in frustration.
The roar made the injured human tremble in fear.
The beast rolled its eyes.
Weak human indeed. Can’t even handle a little noise.
Forget it.
It would show some mercy.
Then Lu Wu witnessed a miraculous transformation.
Or rather, a tiger becoming a kitten.
The majestic tiger-like demon beast instantly shrank into a tiny cat no longer than her forearm.
The intertwined black-and-white patterns were exceptionally beautiful.
Its silky fur rippled gently in the breeze.
And directly into Lu Wu’s heart.
Who wasn’t a cat lover, after all?
Her hands itched.
She wanted to pet it.
Lu Wu quietly observed the little cat employing its ultimate charm technique against her.
Had her reputation for loving beautiful things already spread into the demon beast world?
If so…
She could only surrender.
“Meow~”
Even its roar had become a soft, adorable meow.
Using a razor-sharp claw, it sliced off a piece of the injured human’s clothing, then carried the scrap toward Lu Wu.
Lu Wu noticed the flash of cold steel from the claws.
But she didn’t care.
What was wrong with a little kitten being stronger than average?
That was called understanding self-protection.
A kitten’s safety was important too.
“Kitty~”
The word slipped out.
The demon beast’s steps paused for a moment.
A multitude of complicated emotions flashed through its eyes before it continued forward.
With a leap, it landed directly on Lu Wu’s lap.
After dropping the cloth, the beast rubbed its head against her stomach.
“Meow~”
That soft cry completely melted Lu Wu’s heart.
She had been wrong.
How could she have mistaken such an adorable little kitty for a man-eating tiger?
She admitted her mistake.
She reflected deeply.
One hand settled on its body.
When she saw that it not only didn’t resist but actively pushed its head into her palm, Lu Wu finally let herself pet it to her heart’s content.
The reason she dared to be so bold was simple.
Her cheat system had come online.
Grandpa Li: Guardian No. 1 has logged in. Please proceed with reckless behavior to your heart’s content.
The fur beneath her palm was unbelievably soft.
A kitten’s body truly was one of the world’s greatest treasures.
Suppressing the urge to bury her face in the cat and inhale deeply, Lu Wu picked up the piece of cloth.
She didn’t recognize the fabric.
The style was ordinary and revealed nothing useful.
But before she even brought it close, she caught a familiar scent.
That smell…
She knew it well.
“Oh, I get it.”
Lu Wu suddenly understood.
“You want milk tea.”
