Upon hearing that Wu Rendi wanted Sun Desheng to pay the bill, Huang Ran immediately stood up on his own initiative with a smile.

“Let me handle this, Da Sheng. You’ve got to give me this chance.”

“Old Huang, since we’re brothers, I’ll give you this one,” Sun Desheng said with a grin. Then he turned toward the waiter outside. “Hey you, bring the menu. Add more dishes… Director Wu, please take a look and see what you’d like.”

Wu Rendi rolled his eyes. He ignored Sun Fatty and casually took out a black stone from his pocket, placing it on the table.

“Do something for me,” he said flatly. “Find the owner of this button.”

Hearing this, Sun Desheng lost interest in ordering food. He and Huang Ran leaned in to look at the black stone in front of Wu Rendi. Without Wu saying it himself, neither of them would have guessed it was a button.

Under Wu Rendi’s tacit permission, Huang Ran picked it up and examined it under the light.

“This is a button made of black jade,” he said. “Jiangnan style, custom-made. It shouldn’t be hard to find the workshop that made it… but Director Wu, do you have any other clues? Like where or when you found it?”

“There are no other clues,” Wu Rendi said without even looking at him. “No time, no place, nothing. Can you still find its owner?”

This was an extremely vague request—if tens of thousands of such buttons existed, how could anyone track down a single owner?

But Huang Ran still wanted to seize this opportunity to build a connection with Wu Rendi. Even with nothing to go on, he nodded.

“Yes. But I’ll need time.”

“Then go find it,” Wu Rendi said. “I won’t make you work for nothing.”

Before he could finish, Sun Desheng suddenly snatched the black jade button from Huang Ran’s hand.

“Heh, I’ll hold onto this for now,” he said with a grin. Then he looked at the displeased Huang Ran. “Old Huang, I’ll have Director Ou Yang copy an identical one for you later.”

Then he turned to Wu Rendi. “You said I won’t be working for nothing, right?”

“You still want something?” Wu Rendi glanced at him. “You mean the elixir of immortality? I told you before, your constitution can’t handle it. If you insist on taking it, your wife Shao Yiyi will become a widow a few days earlier.”

“I’m not taking it for myself,” Sun Desheng said with a grin. “I’m planning to give it to my brother. If he can’t live forever, it’d be a waste.”

As he spoke, Wu Rendi turned his gaze to Car Qianzi, whose face was full of surprise.

“You’re still so young. Do you really think immortality is such a great bargain?” Wu Rendi said coldly.

“If it’s not such a great bargain, then why don’t you just spit it out?” Car Qianzi retorted before he could stop himself—then immediately regretted it.

He expected trouble.

But surprisingly, Wu Rendi did nothing. He simply looked at him and muttered:

“Now even anyone dares to talk to me like that…”

Sun Desheng quickly stepped in, laughing to smooth things over.

“Director Wu, let me ask—how did the owner of this button offend you? If we know that, it’ll be easier to find him.”

Wu Rendi’s expression turned strange, as if even he was troubled by it. After a pause, he took out a business card and placed it on the table.

“Find this person. He knows.”

Huang Ran reacted quickly this time. He grabbed the card first, took a photo, then put it away.

“The photo has been sent to you, Da Sheng,” he said. “When should we go handle this for Director Wu?”

Sun Desheng looked at the message and read it aloud:

“Hangzhou Jiao Lang Silk Culture Co., Ltd.—Chairman: Jiao Dilang.”

He smiled.

“Of course we have to go. Anything involving Director Wu is a top priority.”

Then he added casually, “Perfect timing—our bureau is about to take a break anyway. Let’s go together. Old Huang, looks like you’re paying again.”

At that moment, dishes began arriving continuously. Soon the entire table was overflowing with delicacies.

Sun Desheng laughed.

“Since this is Director Wu’s treat, just order everything on the menu. Old Huang, you’re really spending big this time.”

Huang Ran also smiled.

“I’ll pay again next time. First, let’s toast Director Wu.”

He then added, “Our Master Shangshan was talking about you recently as well. He’d like to meet you again—when will you be free?”

“Still thinking about getting that slap back?” Wu Rendi said lightly. “Let’s talk when he becomes a monk again.”

Then, without even touching his glass, he glanced at Shen La’s companion and said to him:

“Don’t rush to get married. Wait a bit. Maybe before long, Yiyi will become a widow. Then your wife and daughter will both be settled.”

Shen La’s expression turned awkward.

He forced a smile and said, “Our Director Wu is just joking. Don’t take it seriously. Da Sheng, let’s toast Director Wu together.”

Sun Desheng stood up with a grin, raised his glass, and said:

“Come on, everyone together—let’s wish our great Director Wu Rendi a long and healthy life, and live to a hundred years.”

Wu Rendi glanced at him expressionlessly.

“Long life…”
