BPIFC -Volume 1 – Chapter 165 Return (Part 2)

Bureau of Paranormal Investigation: The Final Chapter 6 min read 165 of 188 3

Hearing that Sun Desheng had “come back to his old ways,” the senior leader finally felt somewhat reassured.

Originally, he had intended to bring the “untouchable” Bureau of Investigation under control. Unexpectedly, things had been calm for a long time—but after Ren Rong took over, everything suddenly turned chaotic.

The situation had escalated so badly that not even Ren, the bureau director, could handle it—let alone a minister-level leader like himself, who had also been dragged into trouble.

The incidents at Yian Building and the hospital had already caused him to be summoned for criticism at the central level.

It was becoming clear: Ren Rong alone couldn’t stabilize the situation.

At that moment, the leader remembered how good things had been when Sun Desheng was in charge.

Whatever else could be said, Sun Desheng was at least capable of handling these kinds of cases. During his tenure, the Bureau had never experienced such consecutive major incidents.

“Comrade Desheng returning is good news,” the leader said, nodding.

“Then you will continue to take charge of the Bureau’s daily operations. Your primary task is to maintain stability in the capital region. Incidents like Yian Building and the hospital must never happen again.”

Only after the leader finished speaking did Sun Desheng smile and respond.

“Sir, I didn’t come back alone—I brought an expert with me.”

“Brother—Che Qianzi…”

He looked around.

“Where did my brother go? Why isn’t he in here? Someone, go check if Che Qianzi is still at the entrance.”

He made no attempt to hide his relationship with Che Qianzi, repeatedly calling him “brother.”

While Che Qianzi was being brought in, Ren Rong leaned over and quietly explained who he was to the senior leader.

A moment later, Che Qianzi was escorted into the room.

Sun Desheng waved him over.

“Brother, come sit here—next to me. Chief Hao, could you please move one seat back.”

Che Qianzi sat down in a daze beside him, muttering,

“The guards at the gate wouldn’t let me in. I told them I was with you, but that idiot just wouldn’t listen. If I wasn’t worried about messing up this outfit, I would’ve already slapped him. Fatty, what’s this about? You planning to start a fight as soon as I walk in?”

“Don’t talk nonsense,” Sun Desheng said, pinching his thigh under the table.

Then he smiled at the senior leader.

“This is the expert I mentioned. After returning, I intend to appoint Comrade Che Qianzi as a consultant for the Bureau. The appointment has already been signed by leadership. Technically, he’s already a consultant now. Go on, brother—say a few words.”

Although Ren Rong had previously mentioned that the appointment document had been signed by Che Qianzi himself, the senior leader didn’t believe Sun Desheng would treat such an important position so casually.

Now seeing it happen for real, he couldn’t help frowning slightly.

Che Qianzi, still surprised he wasn’t here to fight, was pushed to his feet.

He scratched his head awkwardly.

“Say a few words… then I guess I’ll just say a few words. From now on I’m the consultant, uh… yeah…”

Seeing him speak so clumsily, Sun Desheng immediately applauded.

“Well said! What he means is—we’re all colleagues now. We should support each other.”

The Bureau of Investigation had once had consultants before—most notably someone of equal reputation to Gao Liang, the monk Xiao Heshang.

Although that man had broad knowledge, he was nowhere near comparable to this half-grown youth in front of them.

Except for Sun Desheng, no one in the room truly accepted him.

At that moment, the senior leader coughed and said,

“Alright. The Bureau now has its director, deputy director, secretary, and consultant in place. The leadership structure has been re-established. You can resume normal operations.”

“Your first task is to investigate today’s internal murder case. Discuss how to solve it.”

With that, the leader effectively acknowledged Che Qianzi’s consultant position.

Right now, the priority was not titles—but restoring order in the capital region.

Director Ren nodded and asked Chief Hao Wenming to explain the case in detail.

The account was the same as before.

At the end, Hao Wenming said,

“We’ve examined the bodies and surveillance footage. There were no signs of formations or supernatural techniques. In theory, it doesn’t look like anyone used sorcery. But we still need the final forensic report. There may be something inside the bodies we haven’t discovered yet.”

While he spoke, Sun Desheng already had a case file in his hands, signed by several chiefs confirming that no traces of supernatural activity had been found at the scene.

After reading it, he said,

“Chief Hao, the report says eight people died. Six gunmen who attacked the Bureau, and the brother-sister pair I brought in.”

“That’s not right—we’re missing one.”

“The man who fired at my sister-in-law last night—where is he?”

Hao Wenming didn’t answer. His brother, Hao Zhengyi, spoke instead.

“He was too badly injured—multiple fractures and internal bleeding. He was sent to emergency care as soon as you left. I just confirmed it—he’s alive and stable. To be safe, I’ve already assigned guards to watch him.”

Sun Desheng nodded in satisfaction.

“Good. That’s fine.”

“One more thing—this person must not be brought back into the Bureau. Interrogation and questioning must be done outside. Until this case is fully clarified, he is not allowed inside the Bureau.”

Hearing this, Xiong Wanyi couldn’t help but speak up.

“Hold on, Fat Sun—do you already know something? Have you identified the culprit? Stop keeping secrets and just say who’s bold enough to cause trouble here.”

Sun Desheng shook his head.

“Not yet. Let’s wait for the autopsy reports first. Director Ouyang, this part is up to you. As long as you figure out how those eight people died…”

“Step by step, la. First examine the girl from last night.”

Ouyang Pianzuo stood up and walked toward the door.

“Ah have a feelin’ somethin’s wrong with that girl. First we examine her. Xiao Xiao, come help me.”

With that, Ouyang Pianzuo and Xiao Yifeng left the meeting room.

After they departed, Director Ren turned to Sun Desheng.

“Big Sun, the Du Qian case has now been merged with the earlier Du family brothers case. The municipal bureau is handling the drug trafficking and hired murder aspects. We’ll handle the Bureau-related part ourselves. Tell us what you know—let’s share information.”

“We’d better not share too much,” Sun Desheng replied.

“What I’ve found out can’t be known by outsiders.”

Still, he briefly described the case of the dismembered body incident in the company car, giving the leader some context.

At the end he said,

“Do you think this kind of thing can be shared with outsiders? The Bureau has never liked merging cases with other departments.”

Hearing this, even the senior leader felt his scalp tighten.

He sighed.

“I don’t think merging cases is appropriate either. Let’s follow Comrade Sun’s suggestion and wait for Division Five’s autopsy report.”

Then he asked,

“Comrade Sun, if the autopsy shows nothing unusual, what are your next steps…”

Before he could finish, the speaker on the conference table suddenly rang out.

Xiao Yifeng’s voice came through:

“Turn on the live feed and connect to Division Five’s operating room. Chief Ouyang has discovered something interesting.”

No one expected results so quickly.

Ximen Lian immediately activated the projector on the wall.

The screen switched to Division Five.

A cold autopsy table appeared.

Ouyang Pianzuo had already opened the female corpse’s abdomen and was extracting the organs one by one.

Among them, the most striking change was the liver—

It had turned completely white.
