Hearing Zhu Nan’s words, the people in the small shop became visibly shaken again.

What he said made sense—whether Wu Rendi would be a problem or not depended entirely on whether they could quickly deal with Kong Dalong in Unit 808.

At that moment, He Zhongluo stopped waiting for the others. After checking the time, he said to Yu Meiren and Zhu Nan—the two who stood on equal footing with him:

“Then we finish Kong Dalong first. Liu Zhiyou, explain yourself. You’re the only one among us who has entered 808. Is the person inside surnamed Kong or not?”

At this moment, Liu Zhiyou was covered in blood from head to toe.

Just earlier, these senior “fellow sect members” who he could not afford to offend had suspected he might be Kong Dalong in disguise. They tested his identity by extreme methods—drowning, burning, stabbing, and carving cuts all over his body—trying to confirm whether Kong Dalong had disguised himself using his skin or illusion techniques.

Only after confirming he truly was Liu Zhiyou did they finally stop. Then, right after that, they received Ren Rong’s intimidating phone call, leaving him barely any time to recover before being questioned again.

Liu Zhiyou wiped away tears (mostly from pain) and said:

“That half-old man said there was a same-city courier delivery and asked me to go inside and receive it. After I went in, he just kept stalling and rummaging around. I also tried to test him, but I didn’t dare go too far in case he really was Kong Dalong and got spooked.

I used a few coded phrases that insiders would recognize. If he was Kong, he would’ve shown some reaction sooner or later—you all know I’ve got sharp eyes for this kind of thing…”

“In the end, he just kept delaying for an hour, digging out some junk. The only useful clue I got was the delivery address—it was the Bureau of Special Investigation itself. If you go by that alone, it must be Kong Dalong. But aside from that, there was nothing else suspicious.”

“You’re basically saying nothing,” He Zhongluo said coldly, glaring at him.

Earlier, the real estate agent, the young couple, and the building electrician who had entered 808 had all been detained and carefully interrogated. None of them turned out to be Kong Dalong in disguise. But there wasn’t enough time for deeper investigation, and they couldn’t cause casualties under the fear of attracting the Bureau’s attention, so they were only temporarily held.

He then turned to Yu Meiren and Zhu Nan.

“Now He Sai and He Huan are already near 808. To prevent Kong Dalong from escaping, I’ve arranged Units 807 and 809. An Hu and Su Xiaoliang are guarding them. Yu Meiren, Zhu Nan—you two take your people into those rooms. I’ll go with the He family uncle and nephew to Unit 908 upstairs.”

He raised his wrist and glanced at his watch.

“It’s 2:30 PM now. In ten minutes, at 2:40 sharp, we attack from above, left, and right simultaneously into Unit 808. Liu Zhiyou, watch the surveillance. Report immediately if anything happens. No matter how powerful Kong Dalong is, he can’t handle attacks from three sides at once.”

“Wait—who said it’s 2:30?”

“It’s clearly 2:27…”

“Nonsense, what watches are you wearing? I just synced mine. It’s 2:35!”

Seeing the disagreement, everyone realized the problem: the diamond-studded luxury watches on Yu Meiren and Zhu Nan’s wrists showed different times.

If they hadn’t noticed now, the consequences could have been disastrous—they might have ended up timing their own deaths based on inaccurate watches.

He Zhongluo felt an uneasy premonition.

“Sync the time,” he said irritably. “We go by my watch—2:30. Attack at 2:43. And if you’ve got time, buy a proper watch. You call yourselves cultivators? Look around—what temple or Taoist sect leader wears a diamond-encrusted watch?”

After syncing time, He Zhongluo led dozens of people to the stairwell outside Unit 808.

He assigned them to rush in at 2:40 from the main entrance. Meanwhile, they had already prepared a formation on the ground floor directly beneath the window—if Kong Dalong jumped out, he would still die.

Then he called He Sai from Unit 801 and went up to Unit 908, where He Huan was waiting.

As the minutes ticked closer to 2:40, even experienced cultivators like He Zhongluo and He Sai began to sweat.

At 2:38, a loud explosion suddenly echoed from downstairs, followed by screams.

He Zhongluo’s heart jolted.

Had something gone wrong? But the timing shouldn’t have shifted…

Still, since fighting had already begun below, they couldn’t hesitate anymore.

He immediately activated his technique, and the floor beneath them shattered. In an instant, they dropped directly into the living room of Unit 808.

Unfortunately, the timing was off—just as they landed, Yu Meiren from Unit 807 also rushed out, and He Zhongluo happened to crash directly onto one of his “fellow sect members,” knocking him unconscious.

There was no time to think.

Inside, they saw a large hole blasted through the wall leading to Unit 809. Zhu Nan lay on the ground covered in blood, along with several of his men—most already dead.

Zhu Nan was still alive, barely, though a bloody hole pierced his body.

He Zhongluo ignored his injuries and shouted:

“What happened? Weren’t we all supposed to strike at 2:40? Who started early?!”

Zhu Nan struggled to stand, weakly replying:

“Who said I started anything? Two minutes before the attack time, Kong Dalong himself blew open the wall… My men were waiting right there—and they were killed instantly in the blast…”

Only then did He Zhongluo notice a surveillance device placed in the living room.

His expression changed instantly.

A trap.

The “courier” Liu Zhiyou brought back contained a listening device. Everything they had discussed earlier had been heard clearly by Kong Dalong.

They had been played.

Fortunately, Kong Dalong hadn’t gone far. After blowing through the wall and killing several people, he escaped into Unit 809, then out the door.

The ambush outside the room had seen him flee—but no one recognized him, so no one chased.

“Pursue him!” He Zhongluo roared.

Dozens of people rushed out—but there was no sign of Kong Dalong.

Then a voice came through the communicator:

“I see him. He entered Unit 810!”

They immediately broke into Unit 810—only to find another hole in the floor.

He had gone down again.

Without hesitation, He Zhongluo, He Sai, and He Huan jumped after him.

The moment they landed, screams erupted behind them again.

But below—Unit 710—there was no one.

No movement. No trace. Just closed doors and empty rooms.

A growing sense of dread filled He Zhongluo.

“You two hold here,” he said to the He family pair. “I’ll go up and check.”

He leapt back up to Unit 810.

Outside, bodies lay everywhere. Yu Meiren and Zhu Nan were both collapsed in blood.

He Zhongluo was completely stunned.

He grabbed a fellow sect member and roared:

“What happened?! Don’t tell me this is all Kong Dalong!”

The man looked at him blankly, dazed and bleeding.

“…Then what am I supposed to say?”
