After returning home in a restless state, Qiao Shuhui sat on the wooden sofa, staring absentmindedly at the teacup on the table.

After a long while, she lowered her head to look at her still-flat belly and recalled what Gu Yihan had said.

Qiao Shuhui murmured softly, “If Gu Yihan has been reborn, how could she give up Lin Yifei?”

She pondered for a long time, racking her brain, but she couldn’t figure out why Gu Yihan would abandon Lin Yifei.

Suddenly, her eyes lit up, and she whispered to herself, “If she didn’t choose Lin Yifei, there can only be two reasons.”

“The first: Gu Yihan was not actually reborn.”

“The second: Gu Yihan’s rebirth came too late—she was already married to Lin Yifei.”

Only now did Qiao Shuhui gradually feel reassured. She couldn’t believe that if Gu Yihan retained memories from a past life, she would ever give up Lin Yifei.

“Creak.”

Lin Yifei pushed open the door. Seeing the table completely empty, he looked at Qiao Shuhui with a puzzled expression. “Xiaohui, I guess the cafeteria must have run out of food by now.”

Qiao Shuhui then glanced out the window and noticed that it had already grown dark—she hadn’t cooked.

“I’ve been feeling really nauseous today. Brother Yifei, you rest for a bit. I’ll make dinner right away.” Saying this, Qiao Shuhui tried to stand.

Lin Yifei hurried over, carefully helping her sit down, then reached out to feel her forehead.

He scrutinized her complexion and, seeing her cheeks rosy, relaxed. He said, “Since you’re not feeling well, rest a bit. I’ll make dinner.”

With that, Lin Yifei went to the kitchen. It would be too time-consuming to do anything fancy, so he efficiently kneaded the dough. They would have vegetable noodles tonight, and he would fry an egg for Qiao Shuhui.

Qiao Shuhui carefully walked to the kitchen doorway, watching Lin Yifei busy with the cooking, lost in thought.

Unconsciously, she had walked up behind him and gently wrapped her arms around his waist. Her voice choked as she said, “Brother Yifei, you’re so good to me.”

“I’m so afraid that someday you’ll stop loving me. Without you, I couldn’t live.”

Lin Yifei, in the middle of rolling the dough, was suddenly embraced, his movements restricted.

He lowered his head to look at the hands clinging to his waist and stomach.

His deep eyes revealed a flicker of curiosity, then he chuckled softly. “Xiaohui, don’t overthink things.”

“Listen to me. You’re holding me up from cooking. Go sit on the living room sofa and rest. The noodles will be ready soon.”

He gently removed Qiao Shuhui’s arms from around his waist and resumed rolling the dough.

Qiao Shuhui knew she couldn’t help in the kitchen, so she returned to the wooden sofa. Her thoughts turned to Gu Yihan, her expression turning icy.

“Since you’ve already married that nobody, Lu Huailin, she’ll have to make sure Gu Yihan is firmly locked to Lu Huailin,” she whispered.

“I won’t let you steal Lin Yifei from me either.”

In the kitchen, Lin Yifei was deep in thought. Lately, he had been dreaming a lot.

In his dreams, a woman nestled in his arms, and they had adorable children. Their home was filled with laughter and joy every day.

But each morning when he woke, he tried hard to recall the scenes from his dreams, and the woman’s face always remained blurry.

Yet he was one hundred percent certain that the woman was not Qiao Shuhui.

For several days, Gu Yihan would encounter Qiao Shuhui during her commute.

“Xiaohan, you don’t know. Brother Yifei is so good to me. He knows how hard pregnancy is, so he does all the housework,” Qiao Shuhui chattered behind her as Gu Yihan rode her bicycle.

Qiao Shuhui went on and on, bragging about how much Lin Yifei loved her.

“Xiaohan, you should have a child soon too. Then our children could be betrothed.”

“Your son could be my son-in-law, and I’ll treat him like my own child.”

Annoyed by her endless prattling, Gu Yihan stopped her bicycle and turned to look at Qiao Shuhui behind her.

She took a deep breath, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “I’ve seen shameless people, but never someone as shameless as you.”

“You’re so clueless—can’t you tell I dislike you? And you still want to betroth our children?”

“Did I offend you in a past life, or did I desecrate your family grave? You really want to bring misfortune to three generations of our family?”

A flash of displeasure crossed Qiao Shuhui’s eyes, but she continued smiling at Gu Yihan. “You haven’t taken a fancy to my Lin Yifei, have you?”

Gu Yihan: “……”

Gu Yihan really couldn’t fathom Qiao Shuhui’s bizarre logic—it was just leaps and bounds of nonsense.

Already suspicious of Gu Yihan, Qiao Shuhui became more panicked when she said nothing. Her voice sharpened, “Don’t even think about it. Since you’ve chosen Lu Huailin, it’s too late to regret it. I won’t give you a chance.”

Hearing this, Gu Yihan’s lips curved into a smile. Looking at her, she spoke deliberately, word by word: “You’d better not cause trouble for Lin Yifei.”

With that, Gu Yihan got back on her bicycle and rode away.

Qiao Shuhui froze for a moment and shouted angrily at her back, “Gu Yihan, what do you mean by that?”

Gu Yihan thought to herself that she had just stopped briefly because her brain had gone soft.

With Qiao Shuhui’s paranoid nature, she would sooner or later ruin herself.

She also felt pity for Lin Yifei: “Poor Lin Yifei. A woman like Qiao Shuhui, with all that good fortune, isn’t something an ordinary man could enjoy.”

Back at the housing compound, Gu Yihan saw Xiao Wu holding Maomao at the small courtyard gate.

Xiao Wu scratched his head, embarrassed, and said, “Sister-in-law, I’ve brought Maomao for you.”

He glanced at Maomao and paused briefly. “He got scolded by the trainer at the military dog training base.”

Hearing this, Gu Yihan glanced at Maomao and deliberately stretched her voice: “Oh… so you know how to come back!”

She took out her keys, opened the door, and Maomao strutted straight into the yard, head held high.

After circling the yard like a lion patrolling its territory, Gu Yihan couldn’t stand his pretentiousness.

She parked her bicycle and greeted Xiao Wu at the gate. “Xiao Wu, want to come in for a cup of tea?”

Xiao Wu shook his head frantically. “No, sister-in-law. Captain Lu isn’t home, so I won’t go in.”

Then he dashed off—he couldn’t ruin his sister-in-law’s reputation in the compound.

Seeing Xiao Wu leave, Maomao stopped pretending and ran up to Gu Yihan, rolling and begging for affection.

Gu Yihan squatted down and rubbed his exposed belly, laughing. “You’re a dog, yet still care about keeping face in front of others?”

“You’ve been gone so long—I thought you’d have forgotten which way the house faces!”

Maomao stood up, trying to climb into his owner’s arms, but Gu Yihan held him down. “You stink all over, yet still want to rub against me?”

Maomao whimpered, trailing after Gu Yihan as she moved between the living room and kitchen.
