Gu Yihan felt that she was truly unlucky. Her space was still in a half-disabled state.

It had been two months, and it hadn’t returned to normal. Occasionally, it would go haywire, making her head throb painfully.

This afternoon, her head didn’t throb so much as ache faintly.

After work, Gu Yihan was the last to leave. She didn’t know why, but the closer it got to the end of her shift, the worse the pain in her head became.

As she reached the stairs on the first floor, her arm was suddenly grabbed.

“Ah—!”

Gu Yihan, startled, was about to scream, when someone clamped a hand over her mouth and nose. She struggled desperately but could not break free from the person holding her from behind.

She was dragged into the corridor leading to the stairwell storage, and suddenly, someone gripped her neck with force.

Only then did she see who it was—damn it—it was Deputy Director Shen.

Deputy Director Shen pressed hard on Gu Yihan’s neck. “I really didn’t expect this. I’ve been playing the big shot for years, yet I got pecked in the eye by a little goose like you.”

Gu Yihan couldn’t speak, thrashing her hands against Shen’s grip.

Shen seemed oblivious to her discomfort and muttered to himself, “You’re really something!”

“You’re the one who reported Accountant Zhuang, right? I can’t figure it out. Accountant Zhuang hides the ledger so well—I searched for it forever and couldn’t find it.”

“How did it end up in someone else’s hands? Accountant Zhuang wouldn’t dig her own grave.”

“It could only be you. I don’t know what means you used to get the ledger, but anyone who crossed you didn’t fare well.”

Shen’s grip on Gu Yihan’s neck tightened further.

He looked at her coldly, teeth gritted. “Zhou Tingmei had a conflict with you in the office. Now she doesn’t even have a job—it’s all because of you.”

Gu Yihan stared at him, her heart filled with hatred. She wanted to kill him.

Shen sneered at her gaze. “Ungrateful wretch. If it weren’t for me, could you have established yourself in the factory so quickly?”

“Accountant Zhuang may have said some harsh things to you.”

“But she never actually made work difficult for you. How could you be so ruthless, so heartless?”

“You ruined me financially. I’ll make sure you die a miserable death.”

With that, Shen tightened his hand on her neck bit by bit. He wanted her to feel the fear and pain of death slowly.

Gu Yihan could barely breathe, and her head throbbed violently, as if it were going to explode.

Just when she thought she might die right there…

“Beep… beep…”

A sound rang repeatedly in her head.

“Host detected in life-threatening danger. Activate Host Protection Mode?”

Gu Yihan didn’t have time to think. Her mind immediately chose to activate the protection mode.

“Host Protection Mode activated.”

“Engage emergency mode to rescue host.”

As soon as she heard this voice, a piece of loose cement fell from the gray wall and directly struck Deputy Director Shen on the head.

Shen staggered, and his grip on Gu Yihan’s neck loosened. Seizing the opportunity, she broke free.

“Cough… cough…” Gu Yihan gasped for air.

“Host stamina insufficient. Activate one-hour super strength mode?”

Gu Yihan didn’t know if the voice in her head was harmful.

At that moment, she couldn’t even ensure her own survival, so she just opened her mouth and said, “Yes.”

“Super Strength Mode activated.”

The next moment, Gu Yihan felt her entire body surge with power.

Seeing Deputy Director Shen recover from the cement hit and stride toward her aggressively, Gu Yihan lifted her leg and fiercely kicked his calf.

“Crack.”

His leg gave way, and he fell to the ground.

Deputy Director Shen, slow to react, immediately sat up, clutching his leg, wailing in pain.

“Ah… it hurts!”

Gu Yihan gave him no chance. She stomped on his other leg. “Crack.” That leg broke too.

Shen sat on the ground, hands holding his thighs, cold sweat pouring down. “It hurts… my legs… they’re broken.”

He glared at Gu Yihan. “I won’t let you get away.”

Gu Yihan pulled the ledger she had just transferred from her space out of her bag and threw it at him.

Her throat hurt badly.

She forced herself to speak in a hoarse voice, coldly, “Hah. If I can send you in once, I can do it a second time.”

“You used Sister Zhuang’s son to coerce her into taking the blame. You think I have no evidence?”

Shen picked up the ledger and opened it, his face draining of color. “You… you even have…”

Gu Yihan sneered. “You really thought I had no backup? The ledger I sent out is a copy.”

“The original ledger has all the evidence of how you forced Sister Zhuang, used her son’s identity to threaten her into doing your bidding.”

At this moment, Shen forgot his broken legs and tried to stand up—but fell again, roaring, “Impossible!”

Gu Yihan silently thought, Of course it’s fake. I overheard your conversation to know all this.

She clicked her tongue, circling him. “That ledger isn’t on me. It’s with a very discreet friend of mine. If anything happens to me… well…”

She deliberately didn’t finish her sentence, leaving Shen to imagine the rest.

Gu Yihan had no intention of killing him; she only wanted to injure him physically. She was, after all, still an ordinary person and never considered breaking the law.

“Woof! Woof!”

Maomao, waiting outside, had grown anxious. Seizing the moment when the doorman wasn’t looking, he ran in.

Hearing Maomao, Gu Yihan whispered to Shen, “If you expect me to be safe every day, then you won’t have another Sister Zhuang to take the blame for you.”

With that, she followed Maomao’s barking.

Shen’s fingertips turned white as he gripped the ledger tightly.

Gu Yihan quickly reached Maomao’s side.

She had said too much, and with her already-injured throat, it was hard to make any sound.

She could only stroke Maomao’s head and point toward home.

Maomao understood and led her forward.

Gu Yihan watched Maomao in front, occasionally stopping to look back and make sure she was keeping up.

Her nose stung, and tears of grievance ran down her face.

Today, she had almost died. Without that mechanical voice, she probably wouldn’t have seen the sun rise tomorrow.

In her heart, Gu Yihan silently asked, What are you?

“Beep… beep…” The electrical sound rang again.
