After returning to the research institute, Old Tang carefully locked the medicine in a cabinet.

Then he turned and walked into his office, picked up the phone, and without hesitation dialed the number of the Kun City Research Institute.

As soon as the call connected, he said eagerly and loudly, “Old Chu, your little brother here thanks you for your selfless generosity!”

Master Chu paused, gripping the phone, a trace of confusion flashing in his eyes.“What do you  mean?”

Old Tang couldn’t suppress the pride in his voice. His words carried an annoyingly smug tone.

“I’m thanking you for refusing Comrade Gu Yihan’s deal.”

“Because of that, I got to know her and ended up getting three bottles of life-saving medicine.”

Hearing Old Tang’s infuriating tone, displeasure flashed in Master Chu’s eyes.

He snorted coldly. “What does you getting the medicine have to do with me? Do you have to brag to me about it?”

He was practically furious.

Clearly, because of the little squirrel, he and Gu Yihan had been closer.

Yet she had such good things in her hands and didn’t think of their institute first.

Instead, she had benefited that old fellow Tang.

Hearing this, Old Tang couldn’t help but smile. It seemed Master Chu didn’t know that Gu Yihan had originally approached him first.

Thinking of this, he felt secretly delighted.

With a smug tone, he said, “Of course it has something to do with you.”

“If you hadn’t refused to protect Father Li and mother, Comrade Gu Yihan wouldn’t have made a deal with me.”

Master Chu froze for a moment, then seemed to realize something.

His face instantly darkened.

With a “啪,” he hung up the phone, stood up abruptly, and stormed toward Leng Xiao’s office.

Leng Xiao looked up and saw Master Chu walk in with a gloomy face.

He thought it was some clueless junior who had upset him.

He quickly stood up and walked over with a smile. “Master, which little brat made you angry?”

As he spoke, he supported Master Chu’s arm, helped him sit down, and poured him a glass of water.

Master Chu glanced at him. “Did Comrade Gu call recently?”

Leng Xiao looked at him in surprise. “Master, she contacted you?”

From Leng Xiao’s words, Master Chu immediately knew Gu Yihan had indeed called.

His anger surged, his vision darkening.

He tried hard to calm himself, took a deep breath, and stared at Leng Xiao.

Grinding his teeth, he asked, “So she did call?”

Not sensing the tone, Leng Xiao pulled over a stool and sat across from him.

Pouting slightly, he said discontentedly, “Master, don’t worry about Gu Yihan. She’s always acting on a whim. She wanted you to protect a couple with political backgrounds. Isn’t that setting you up?”

Hearing his careless tone, Master Chu was so angry he nearly fainted.

He roared, “Why didn’t you tell me?!”

Leng Xiao was startled by the shout and met his furious gaze.

After a brief pause, he explained, “Master, you were busy with Elder Chen’s matter at the time. I thought what she said wasn’t important, so I didn’t mention it.”

Master Chu’s face darkened even more.

Seeing Leng Xiao still looking confused, he grabbed a notebook nearby and threw it at him.

He scolded sharply, “Whether it’s important or not is for me to decide! Not for you to reject it without my permission!”

Thinking of those three bottles of medicine, his heart ached. He looked at Leng Xiao coldly.

“From now on, hand over your work. Go work in the laboratory.”

Leng Xiao picked up the notebook that had hit him and fallen to the floor.

When he heard that he was being sent to the lab as an ordinary researcher, his heart jolted.

He hurriedly asked, “Master, what did I do wrong? Tell me, I can change!”

Master Chu pressed his chest, feeling so stifled he could hardly breathe.

“Do you know that the medicine Old Tang has came from Gu Yihan?”

“She originally wanted to cooperate with our institute. You rejected her.”

Leng Xiao’s eyes widened in shock. He looked up at Master Chu’s expressionless face.

“Master, I didn’t know. If I had known, I wouldn’t have…”

Suddenly, he remembered that both times he had hung up before Gu Yihan finished speaking.

Master Chu looked at him, disappointment flashing in his eyes.

“Hand your work over to your junior first.”

“Master, I’ll change. From now on, no matter who calls, I’ll report everything to you.”

“Please don’t transfer me to the lab, okay?”

An ordinary researcher had to climb up little by little. Going there now meant starting from scratch.

Master Chu looked at him quietly and replied coldly, “An unstable mind isn’t suitable for staying by my side.”

With that, he stood up, walked past him, and left the office.

Leng Xiao stood there in a daze. He never thought Master Chu would transfer him out of the core department over such a “small” matter.

Family Compound Service Station

Gu Yihan finally finished dealing with a group of enthusiastic military wives and plopped down on a small stool.

Sighing, she said, “I’m dying of thirst.”

Liu Yufang walked over with an enamel mug and smiled. “Not easy being a celebrity, huh?”

Gu Yihan patted her calves and smiled. “The sisters in our compound are just too enthusiastic.”

Liu Yufang chuckled. “Here, have some water. Moisten your throat.”

Gu Yihan accepted the mug with a smile and thanked her.

Seeing her sipping slowly, Yang Yue couldn’t help laughing.

“Xiao Han, if you’re thirsty, just gulp it down. We won’t laugh at you.”

Liu Yufang nodded. “Exactly. We’re all women here. No need to be so reserved.”

Gu Yihan paused, glanced at them, and said irritably, “Drinking too fast is bad for your spleen.”

“Huh?”

Yang Yue looked at her in surprise. “Why is it bad for the spleen?”

Liu Yufang and Qin He exchanged glances, then looked at Gu Yihan.

Gu Yihan said, “I just heard it from others. If you’re curious, ask a doctor.”

After work, Gu Yihan and Liu Yufang walked home arm in arm, chatting and laughing.

“Oh my god, look! Isn’t that Wu Meili, swaying her hips up ahead?”

Gu Yihan looked in the direction Liu Yufang pointed.

When she saw Wu Meili’s walking posture, her mouth twitched. She had no idea who taught her that—she looked like a Labrador wagging its tail.

Liu Yufang leaned close to Gu Yihan’s ear and whispered, “Do you think she has someone outside? Otherwise, why would she walk like that?”

Gu Yihan shook her head. “No idea. I’m not close to her.”
