Interrogation Room

Lu Huailin sat on a chair, staring coldly at the middle-aged man.

In a low voice, he said, “Speak. How many accomplices do you still have in Kun City?”

The man glared at Lu Huailin like a venomous snake, then burst into loud laughter.

“What? Afraid?”

“Don’t worry. That woman offended our boss. She won’t come to a good end!”

Lu Huailin narrowed his eyes, stood up, and walked over. He threw a heavy punch into the man’s stomach.

The man let out a muffled groan. His face twisted instantly as he bent over and clutched his belly, unable to recover.

Before he could breathe, Lu Huailin kicked him to the ground.

Then he ruthlessly stomped on the man’s fingers.

“Ah—!”

The piercing scream echoed through the empty room, sending chills down one’s spine.

He Shengli pushed the door open and reported, “Commander, that skinny monkey confessed!”

The middle-aged man suddenly raised his head, glaring at He Shengli with bloodshot eyes.

Lu Huailin cast a cold glance at the man curled up on the floor and said flatly, “Lock the four of them up together.”

After speaking, he turned and walked toward another interrogation room.

Looking at Skinny Monkey’s confession, a trace of coldness flashed in Lu Huailin’s deep eyes.

The Zhou Family

Su Nian sat on the sofa, eating snacks while watching TV.

Hearing the door open, she turned her head in surprise and looked at Zhou Jun.

“Why are you back?” she asked in confusion.

Zhou Jun strode over to her. Looking at her fair face, endless disappointment welled up in his heart.

“How did the regiment commander’s wife offend you? Why do you hate her so much that you wanted to ruin her?”

Su Nian froze and looked up at him blankly.

“What’s wrong with you? You don’t even ask how I’m feeling during pregnancy, and instead you scold me for an outsider? And when did I ever try to ruin her?”

Seeing the innocent look on her face, Zhou Jun felt a surge of mockery in his heart.

It was as if he was meeting her for the first time.

He took out the confessions from his pocket and threw them onto her lap.

“Read it yourself!”

Su Nian picked them up in confusion. When she saw the contents, her pupils widened.

“This is nonsense!” she hurriedly explained.

“I only wrote to my brother at home. I never wrote to Teacher Shen Zihan! And I could never be involved with spies!”

Lowering her head, she read the statement over and over.

Only one thing involved her—she had written a letter revealing Gu Yihan’s information.

As long as she refused to admit that she leaked it, and there was no proof, she wouldn’t be implicated.

Thinking this, Su Nian felt calmer.

She was confident about one thing: in her letter, she had told her brother to burn it after reading.

Zhou Jun stared at her ever-changing expression. A trace of sarcasm flashed in his eyes.

“There are witnesses and physical evidence. Even if you deny it, it’s useless. I don’t even have the right to help you clear your name.”

Su Nian’s heart tightened.

“What do you mean?”

Zhou Jun didn’t answer. Instead, he glanced at Zhou Yan, who was shrinking by the doorway.

“You thought using Zhou Yan to mail the letter would keep people from finding out?”

Under his blade-like gaze, Zhou Yan shivered.

With a pitiful face, she cried, “Brother, I was wrong! I’ll never dare again!”

Su Nian turned to look at her, a bad feeling rising in her heart.

Her voice trembled. “What did you do?”

Zhou Yan no longer dared to hide it.

“I was just curious, so I read the letter you wrote home. When I saw it mentioned Gu Yihan, I gave the letter to Commander Lu. Then I copied the contents and mailed another one.”

Su Nian’s vision went dark.

She dug her fingernails into her palms, struggling to control her trembling body.

After a long while, she asked unwillingly, “The one you gave Commander Lu… was my original letter?”

Zhou Yan avoided her gaze and nodded carefully.

Su Nian could no longer suppress her anger.

She sprang up, rushed over, and slapped Zhou Yan hard.

“Are you trying to get your brother killed?”

Zhou Yan covered her cheek and glanced at Zhou Jun, who showed no reaction.

Opening her mouth, she tried to explain, “I didn’t know it would be this serious. I thought…”

Before she could finish, Su Nian slapped her again.

Furious, she shouted, “Just to please a man who doesn’t even care about you, you betrayed your own sister-in-law and brother!”

After being slapped twice, Zhou Yan also exploded.

She shoved Su Nian away.

“The one who harmed my brother is you! If you hadn’t harbored bad intentions, how would this have involved him? Ever since you married my brother, our family hasn’t had a single peaceful day! You’re a lazy, selfish jinx!”

Zhou Jun ignored their quarrel.

He collapsed onto the sofa, covered his face with both hands, and tears slipped through his fingers.

He knew his beloved career was over.

The army would never tolerate anyone connected to spies.

Elsewhere, Gu Yihan lay on the bed, curled up in Lu Huailin’s arms, holding his waist tightly.

With reddened eyes, she looked up at him.

“How did you know someone was going to target me?”

“I wasn’t completely sure.”

“You weren’t sure?”

“Then why did you arrange for someone to follow me?”

Lu Huailin pressed her head against his chest and held her tightly.

With a sigh, he said, “Zhou Yan told me that Su Nian had written a letter. It said she wanted her brother to tell Teacher Shen Zihan your address in the family compound. At first, I thought she made it up just to get close to me. But later I realized—your technical school teacher was something Zhou Yan shouldn’t have known. So I became cautious and investigated.”

He paused, gently stroking her back.

“Somehow, news about exposing the spies spread out. After getting your information from the Su family, she immediately contacted the spies who were secretly inquiring about you and told them everything.”

Gu Yihan was stunned and looked up at him in disbelief.

“What does Su Nian mean by this? I’ve never wronged her. Why would she treat me like this? And back then, only the police and you knew about the spies. How did it leak?”

Lu Huailin shook his head.

“How it leaked is still under investigation by the Jinyang Public Security Bureau. As for why Su Nian targeted you—only she knows.”
