Mother Lu felt increasingly stifled on the way, her gaze scanning the buildings outside the car, momentarily dazed.
When she saw the security guards drive the car into the compound, her mood instantly lifted.
It seemed that Old Lu had forgiven her.
As soon as the car stopped, Mother Lu couldn’t wait to get out. She reached out, pushed open the gate, and walked happily into the living room, seeing Father Lu sitting on the sofa reading the newspaper.
She strode straight to the sofa opposite him and called toward the kitchen, “Sister He, make me a bowl of egg noodles.”
Aunt He hurriedly responded, “Yes, madam.”
Noticing that the fruit plate on the coffee table was empty, a flash of displeasure crossed her eyes. How could there be no snacks at home?
She kept complaining under her breath, “Ah, Old Lu, you don’t know how terrible the meals on the train were.”
Father Lu didn’t even glance at her. He put down the newspaper and closed his eyes to rest.
Seeing that Father Lu ignored her, Mother Lu pouted. He had already let her return, so why act so high and mighty?
After a while, Aunt He placed the egg noodles on the table and smiled, “Madam, the food is ready.”
Mother Lu snorted coldly, stood up, walked to the table, and began devouring the noodles.
She was starving—after sitting on the train for so long, she had only eaten once midway, and the food had been barely edible.
Creak.
The living room door was pushed open by six expressionless strangers, followed by Elder Brother Lu and his family of three.
Mother Lu raised her eyes and frowned at the sight of so many people.
But when she saw her eldest son behind them, she stopped eating altogether.
She put down her chopsticks, hurried over to her eldest son, and anxiously asked, “How is it? Is everything resolved?”
Eldest Brother Lu glanced at Father Lu, who was silently sitting on the sofa, and clenched his fists tightly inside his sleeves.
He forced a smile, worse than crying, at Mother Lu: “It’s resolved.”
Fang Yi, standing beside Eldest Brother Lu, shivered at the sound of his voice—she had been terrified by him over the past few days.
Father Lu opened his eyes, looking at the timid Fang Yi and Miao Miao beside her.
He waved at the security guards at his side. “Give them the transfer orders.”
The guards immediately took two transfer orders from their folder and handed one to Mother Lu and one to Eldest Brother Lu.
Mother Lu took it, puzzled.
Then she suddenly looked up, widened her eyes, and shook as she shouted, “What does this mean?!”
Father Lu rubbed his temple, glanced at Mother Lu, and sneered, “What, it’s written in black and white—why are you asking me?”
Tears instantly fell from Mother Lu’s eyes. She yelled angrily, “How dare you interfere with my work?”
Father Lu’s eyes turned icy. “You like Lu Huaixu, and he’s going to the Northwest. If you don’t go with him, you’ll feel better, right?”
Mother Lu was stunned for a moment, then snatched the transfer order from Eldest Brother Lu.
Seeing the contents, her whole body trembled with rage.
She shouted furiously, “How can you ruin our son’s future? You know perfectly well he’s competing for the position of factory director!”
Eldest Brother Lu lowered his head and listened to their argument, a faint smile curling at the corner of his mouth.
He hoped Father Lu would consider Mother Lu’s feelings and change the plan to send their family to support the Northwest.
Father Lu’s eyes swept sharply toward his eldest son, who remained silent.
Like a cowardly turtle, with no sense of responsibility, always letting Mother Lu use him as a pawn.
He looked coldly at Mother Lu. “You only care about Eldest Son’s future. Why not think about the younger son’s future?”
Mother Lu was furious. The younger son was already a regiment commander at such a young age—what more future did he need?
Father Lu glanced at Mother Lu’s expression and knew exactly what she was thinking. Foolish woman.
He had been running operations for so long, nearly ruined by her.
If Lu Huaixin hadn’t been clever enough to promptly send Mother Lu to a guesthouse…
If a family dispute had broken out in the compound, those watching Lu Huaixin could have destroyed his plans entirely.
“I disagree,” Mother Lu said, her eyes brimming with tears, her voice choked.
“I can go, I’ll retire soon anyway, but Huaixu’s future cannot be ruined.”
Father Lu abruptly stood, pointing at Mother Lu and speaking sternly, “I’m not discussing this with you anymore; this is a notification.”
Then he looked at Eldest Brother Lu on the side. “Since you’ve chosen not to divorce, then live your life properly.”
Mother Lu tightly gripped the transfer order. Realizing Father Lu wouldn’t change his mind, she slowly calmed herself.
She realized she couldn’t stop them from going to the Northwest. Far away from the emperor, she wouldn’t hesitate to manipulate things in Father Lu’s name.
Fang Yi mustered her courage and stepped forward.
Thud. She knelt in front of Father Lu, crying out with all her heart, “Dad, I want a divorce!”
Miao Miao, seeing Fang Yi kneel, cried loudly in fright. The living room became chaotic instantly.
Mother Lu fixed her eyes on Fang Yi. “How dare you mention divorce!”
Fang Yi ignored her, knowing this was her last chance.
She lifted her head and looked directly at Father Lu. “Dad, Lu Huaixu is a brute. He’s already deafened my left ear. If I stay with him, I will die.”
Without caring about anyone present, she took off her coat, revealing the bruises on her arms.
Mother Lu hated Fang Yi intensely. If it weren’t for her eldest son, Father Lu wouldn’t have allowed them to support the Northwest.
At this moment, Mother Lu didn’t know Fang Yi had been involved in this as well.
“Couples argue at the head of the bed and reconcile at the foot. Which married couple doesn’t quarrel?”
Mother Lu said this, walked over to Fang Yi, and methodically helped her put her coat back on.
She patted her shoulder. “Since Eldest Brother could harm my son, as a younger sister, it’s not excessive for you to repay him, right?”
Father Lu watched Fang Yi silently, saying nothing.
Instead, he waved to the veterans standing nearby. They immediately went to Mother Lu, lifting her by the arms to lead her out.
Caught off guard, Mother Lu was restrained by two of them and shouted furiously, “Let me go!”
Father Lu looked at Lu Huaixu with no emotion. “Don’t try any tricks with me. When I was fighting the Japanese, you weren’t even born yet!”
Eldest Brother Lu looked worried. “Dad, Miao Miao is too young. She can’t handle the climate and conditions over there.”
Hearing this, Miao Miao cried, “Waa… Grandpa, Miao Miao doesn’t want to leave you!”
Father Lu looked at Miao Miao expressionlessly.
“The tickets are already bought. These few people will go with you to the Northwest. If they notice any other actions from you…”
He paused, snorting coldly. “They have the right to enforce family discipline on you.”
Eldest Brother Lu stiffened, glancing at the four burly veterans remaining in the living room.
He knew all of these veterans were originally from the Northwest.
He raised his head, glaring at Father Lu with hatred. “Dad, do you have to be this ruthless?”
Father Lu didn’t look at Eldest Brother Lu, instead greeting the veterans.
Two of the veterans immediately restrained Eldest Brother Lu, preventing him from resisting.
The other two restrained Fang Yi and the heart-wrenchingly crying Miao Miao.
Fang Yi, ashen-faced, glanced at Father Lu, no longer struggling. She regretted provoking him.
“Dad, you’ll regret this. Once we leave, you’ll be all alone,” Eldest Brother Lu shouted hoarsely.
He hadn’t expected Father Lu to be so stone-hearted.
His eyes red, he shouted, “Dad, pray I never return to Beijing in this lifetime!”
Father Lu watched their retreating figures, feeling a pang himself. Without someone keeping an eye on them, Mother Lu would definitely not obey quietly.
These mother and son had been spoiled, everything came too easily to them, and they had no sense of gratitude.
If it weren’t for him and his youngest son fighting with their lives in the military, who would even know them?
