“For this concubine, having Your Highness come accompany me for dinner is already the greatest and best gift.”
Feng Jingge wasn’t blind. How could she not notice Liu Qingqing’s forced smile?
After thinking for a moment, she asked, “Is there any xuan paper here?”
Liu Qingqing did not understand why she was asking, but still nodded obediently.
“Yes, Your Highness.”
Feng Jingge said, “Bring me a sheet.”
“Yes.”
After answering, Liu Qingqing quickly got up and fetched a sheet of paper.
“Your Highness, here.”
Feng Jingge took the paper and began folding it left and right.
Before long, a paper frog appeared in her hands.
When Feng Jingge handed the folded frog to Liu Qingqing, the woman’s eyes widened in shock.
Her voice trembled with excitement and confusion.
“Your Highness… what… what is this?”
The question instantly stunned Feng Jingge.
Don’t tell me frogs don’t exist here?
In a cold voice, she explained, “This is called a frog. Press here, and it can jump forward.”
As she spoke, she demonstrated by pressing down on the frog’s rear.
The next second, the paper frog leapt forward.
Liu Qingqing’s beautiful eyes widened in disbelief.
“Th-this… this…”
Seeing her shocked expression, Feng Jingge unexpectedly found her a little cute.
The coldness in her eyes faded slightly.
“You can try it.”
Liu Qingqing looked overjoyed.
“May I really?”
“Mhm.”
Liu Qingqing carefully stretched out her hand and lightly pressed the frog’s backside.
But she didn’t use enough force, and the frog didn’t move.
Looking up anxiously, she stammered,
“Your Highness… it… it…”
“Press again.”
Liu Qingqing tried once more, but still wasn’t strong enough.
“Harder.”
This time, she pressed firmly.
The paper frog instantly sprang forward.
Liu Qingqing cried out excitedly, “Your Highness! It jumped! It jumped!”
Feng Jingge responded calmly, “Mm.”
After her excitement faded, Liu Qingqing suddenly realized how improper she had acted.
Her face turned bright red as she lowered her eyes and stuttered, “Y-Your Highness, just now I…”
Feng Jingge interrupted her.
“Do you like it?”
Liu Qingqing froze for a moment, then nodded.
“Bring a few more sheets of paper. I’ll make you some different ones.”
“Yes.”
This time, Liu Qingqing directly brought over more than ten sheets.
Feng Jingge took them and folded a paper airplane.
“Watch carefully.”
She raised her hand and flung it forward.
The paper airplane soared through the room, circled once, and finally landed on the floor.
Liu Qingqing had never seen such strange little toys before. Her eyes were completely glued to it.
The moment it landed, she hurriedly picked it up and brought it back to Feng Jingge.
Just as she was about to speak, Feng Jingge beat her to it.
“Eat first.”
If they waited any longer, the dishes would get cold.
“Alright.”
Liu Qingqing could only swallow the words she wanted to say and sit back down.
Neither Feng Jingge nor Liu Qingqing spoke again as they quietly ate.
Liu Qingqing’s attention had been completely captured by the little paper toys. She had long forgotten the original plan she had prepared for tonight.
Standing nearby, Fu Ping watched as events drifted completely away from the arrangement they had discussed beforehand. Anxiety nearly drove her crazy.
Yet she couldn’t openly remind her mistress.
All she could do was worry silently.
A quarter of an hour later, dinner ended.
Feng Jingge set down her chopsticks and continued folding paper—paper cranes, paper fans, and even the “fortune teller” toy children played with.
They were all simple children’s toys, but to Liu Qingqing, they were precious curiosities she couldn’t put down.
Feng Jingge gave all of them to her as birthday gifts.
Liu Qingqing was so moved she nearly burst into tears on the spot.
Feng Jingge thought to herself that women in ancient times were really easy to please.
“These are all for you. I still have matters to attend to, so I’ll head back first.”
“Thank you, Your Highness.”
“Mm.”
After Feng Jingge left the courtyard, Liu Qingqing immediately rushed back into her room and began playing with the paper frog, airplane, and the others one by one.
Seeing this, Fu Ping finally reminded her, “Madam, have you forgotten something?”
Distracted, Liu Qingqing replied absentmindedly, “What could I possibly have forgotten?”
“Madam, according to the original plan, His Highness was supposed to stay here tonight.”
Liu Qingqing paused while pressing the paper frog.
“But even though His Highness didn’t stay, didn’t he still give me birthday gifts? And so many of them too!”
Fu Ping was speechless.
They were just paper toys worth practically nothing, yet her mistress treated them like priceless treasures.
On the way back to the courtyard, Qing Shan caught up with Feng Jingge.
“Miss Feng, Lady Liu didn’t make things difficult for you, did she?”
Feng Jingge chuckled.
“I’m wearing your prince’s face. She likes me too much to make things difficult.”
Only then did Qing Shan realize how stupid his question had been.
After feeling embarrassed for a moment, he asked again, “Then what did Lady Liu say to you?”
Feng Jingge suddenly dropped a bombshell.
“She wanted to sleep with me.”
“…”
The statement was so direct that Qing Shan’s mind completely short-circuited.
He stopped dead in his tracks and stared blankly at Feng Jingge’s retreating back.
A while later, he finally regained his senses and instantly flashed in front of her, blocking her path.
“Miss Feng, what exactly do you mean by that?”
Feng Jingge glanced at him lazily.
“It’s simple. Liu Qingqing wanted to sleep with me…”
“Oh, no. With your prince.”
What she said wasn’t false.
Liu Qingqing’s room had been filled with an aphrodisiac incense. The method was extremely sophisticated.
Ordinary people would never notice it, and even afterward, no trace of the incense could be discovered.
The scent Feng Jingge smelled upon entering the room was merely the trigger.
Another medicine was needed to activate it.
That second ingredient had been hidden in the wine.
As long as she drank it, the aphrodisiac would take effect, and Liu Qingqing’s plan would succeed.
Originally, Liu Qingqing intended to drag her into bed.
But Feng Jingge’s paper toys had distracted her completely and ruined the entire scheme.
Although Feng Jingge hadn’t drunk the wine, it had been sitting right in front of her.
And unfortunately, her sense of smell was extremely sensitive.
She had still caught the scent.
The two fragrances intertwined together.
And even though she hadn’t touched the wine, she had still fallen victim to the aphrodisiac.
After all, simply inhaling it was enough.
It had been manageable while she wasn’t thinking about it.
But now that the thought surfaced again, a wave of heat suddenly rose within her body.
She glanced at Qing Shan.
“Run ahead and prepare a tub of cold water for me.”
“Why—”
Qing Shan had barely uttered a single word before Feng Jingge shot him a cold glare.
He immediately shut up.
By now, even he could tell something was wrong with her, so he instantly disappeared to carry out the order.
By the time Feng Jingge returned to her room, a blazing fire was already raging inside her body.
