Transmigrated-into-a-Supporting-Character-in-Ancient-Times

So, I recently finished Transmigrated into a Supporting Character in Ancient Times, and… I have mixed feelings. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t exactly a favorite either. One of those “glad I read it, but not going back for a second round” kind of reads.

Let’s start with what I liked: the male lead. Qin Fang was actually a really solid, grounded character. He’s practical, a little grumbly in his head (which was kind of funny), but he really grows into someone dependable. I appreciated how realistic his struggles felt—especially the whole “how am I going to feed this wife on a soldier’s salary?” vibe. Very slice-of-life.

The female lead, Yang Haiyan… I wanted to like her more than I did. She’s supposed to have a “golden finger” after transmigrating, but the way it’s written, you barely feel the impact of that advantage. The author really skimmed over how or where she used it, which made it feel underwhelming. She’s practical, yes, but something about her character just didn’t click with me personally. She says she’s not going to interfere with the original novel’s FL and ML, but then… well, she kind of does.

Now, let’s talk about the late empress. I really wish we got more of her story. She’s barely mentioned after her death, but the few glimpses we do get were enough to make me want a spin-off about her — maybe a rebirth where she gets to make different choices. There’s a lot of untapped potential there.

Also, the whole “money-grubbing” angle the main couple had—some parts I got, some parts felt forced. It added a practical layer to the story, but sometimes it took away from the emotional depth.

Overall? It’s a decent one-time read if you’re into transmigration, ancient China settings, and slice-of-life marriage development. Just don’t expect a ton of drama or face-slapping. I’d say it’s more of a slow burn with a quiet vibe. One of those novels you read on a lazy afternoon when you’re not looking for something intense.

Have you read it? Would love to hear your thoughts!
