Transmigrated-As-Cannon-Fodder-To-Marry

Rating: ★☆☆☆☆

I started Transmigrated As Cannon Fodder To Marry with the hope of getting a satisfying underdog-wins-all kind of story. The premise had potential—Jiang Lin transmigrates into a pitiful cannon fodder character set up for tragedy and turns the script around with a mysterious space in hand. Sounds fun, right? Sadly, this one landed straight in my do-not-finish pile. 😞

Let’s start with the translation: the version I initially tried was just too rough—clunky, confusing, and full of grammatical chaos. I barely made it to chapter 30 before giving up. Out of curiosity, I picked up the raw version (yes, I gave it another chance), and while the writing flowed better, the plot just didn’t hold up past chapter 80.

The biggest letdown? Logic completely disappeared.

This is supposed to be a monarchy setting, right? Yet characters throw around insults like they’re in a modern high school drama. People trash-talk the crown prince, stepmothers are cursed out in the open, and even the heroine’s “sweet and kind” persona is more of a joke. It felt like everyone’s IQ dropped the moment Jiang Lin appeared on the scene. The step-siblings and heroine are cartoonishly evil, the plot twists are wild without being clever, and Jiang Lin… says one thing, does another. Repeatedly.

If you’re looking for consistency, believable court politics, or character growth—this isn’t it. Honestly, it reminded me of The Cannon Fodder and Villain’s Happy Ending—another novel that didn’t work for me—but at least that one respected its historical setting. This one just threw ancient China logic out the window.

I can see why some readers might enjoy the over-the-top drama or the face-slapping satisfaction, but if you’re someone who values world-building and coherence, this will likely disappoint you too.

Final Verdict: One star—for both the novel and the translation. Not my cup of tea. 🫖🚫
