📖 The Laid-back Life of a Stepmother – The True Queen of Avoiding Trouble 👑

Now this is what I call strategic laziness! 😂 Wen Ye isn’t your typical transmigrated heroine who fights for power, face-slaps her enemies, or builds an empire. Nope. She just wants to lie down and chill—and honestly? Same, girl, same. ✨

When she found herself in an ancient aristocratic family as a concubine-born daughter, she didn’t try to change the world. She just accepted reality and focused on maximizing her comfort. But the real highlight? Her legendary husband selection process. 😂

Her options were:
1️⃣ A fresh-out-of-the-oven scholar (who already had a “childhood sweetheart cousin” lurking in the background—🚩🚩🚩)
2️⃣ A cousin from the main wife’s family (who came with two mothers-in-law and a never-ending drama package—🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩)
3️⃣ A widowed Ministry of Justice official with a kid (who had his own house, a stable job, and no in-laws hovering over her—✨✔️✔️✔️)

And what did our genius FL do? She took one bite of mung bean pastry, sipped her tea, and calmly chose the third option. 🍵😂 She literally married into an easier life. No need to manage a household, no need to bear children, and her stepson? Already had a perfectly capable sister-in-law who could handle him. Brilliant.

Even her own mother was left speechless. And let’s be real, Mrs. Lu (the sister-in-law) definitely got played. 🤣 She’s out here in her twenties, being told she’s now “half a grandmother” to her nephew, all because Wen Ye wants a stress-free life. Iconic behavior. 👏

My Thoughts

I actually enjoyed this novel because it’s refreshing and hilarious. Instead of an FL who struggles against fate, Wen Ye just outsmarts the system with sheer laziness and logic. I mean, why fight battles you can just avoid? 💅

That said, the novel had a super slow pace at times. If you’re expecting big drama, revenge arcs, or intense romance, this might not be for you. But if you love a chill, slice-of-life story with an FL who refuses to suffer, you’ll probably enjoy this.

Rating: 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Would I read it again? Maybe, if I’m in the mood for something cozy. Would I take life lessons from Wen Ye? Absolutely. 😂

What do you guys think? Would you have chosen the same husband, or gone for the scholar/cousin instead? 👀
