Okay, mystery lovers, listen up! If you’re someone who enjoys stories that mess with your head, keep you on the edge of your seat, and don’t shy away from the dark, ugly truths of the world… then this one? Is a MUST-READ. 💯
I binge-read Simulated Crime like a person possessed, and let me tell you — this isn’t your usual pretty, fluffy story. There’s no romance, no sweet banter, no male leads trying to win over the girl. Nope. This novel is all about crime, gore, and the twisted side of humanity that we often choose to ignore. 😶🌫️
The whole thing starts with Ye Sangsang, our delicate, quiet, almost emotionless-looking FL, joining this high-end, super-realistic holographic game where she plays from the criminal’s perspective. And oh boy, everyone online laughed at her at first — like, “How is this fragile girl gonna act like a criminal?” 😂
But then… BAM!
The audience slowly realizes, she’s not acting. She’s scary good at it. So good that the line between simulation and reality starts to blur. People even started wondering if she’s an actual criminal in disguise. And the cases she handled? 🩸 They’re not your regular detective stories. Some are fictional, but many are inspired by real-life, unsolved, horrifying cases — the kind that makes your stomach drop and your mind spiral.
I LOVED how Ye Sangsang’s character grew over the course of the story. She started off cold, numb, detached — but with every case, you see her slowly feeling, slowly connecting to the victims, and finding emotions she thought she’d never have.
And the way she cracked those cases?! 🧠✨ Genius. The details, the clues, the psychological profiling — chef’s kiss. 👏
One line from this novel really stuck with me:
“It’s not enough to just catch the criminals; we need to understand why they became criminals in the first place.”
And that’s exactly what this book shows. Monsters aren’t always born; sometimes, the world creates them.
This story didn’t glorify the darkness, but it didn’t sugarcoat it either. It made you think, made you uncomfortable, and made you realize that injustice is everywhere — sometimes in the places we don’t look.
If you ask me which case I liked the most? Honestly… NONE. Because every single case was horrifying and tragic in its own way. This isn’t a story you can “enjoy” like a romance or a comedy. It’s the kind of book that makes you pause, makes you think, makes you sad — but you can’t stop reading because you NEED to know how it ends.
There were a few issues with the translation here and there (like gender confusion sometimes), but honestly, for a masterpiece like this? I’m willing to forgive it. 🙌
⭐ My rating? If I could, I’d give it 10 out of 5 stars. Yes, it’s that good. But I’ll warn you — if you’re soft-hearted or can’t handle gore, this may not be your cup of tea.
But if you’re a hardcore mystery lover like me and want a story that hits you like a punch to the gut and leaves you thinking long after you’re done — this one’s for you.
