Rating: ★★★★☆ (maybe even reread-worthy)
This novel had been sitting in my completed list for ages. Every time I saw it, I skipped past—mainly because I wasn’t in the mood for a gender-bender romance. To be honest, I used to feel that stories like these sometimes veered too close to emotional manipulation (hello, Stockholm syndrome vibes?). But you know what they say: when in Rome… So this time, I gave it a shot.
And I’m kind of glad I did.
The premise is wild, no question. Su Jian wakes up to find himself reborn as a woman—not just any woman, but the wife of his former love rival. Cue the chaos. The beginning is emotional and a bit jarring, with MC going through a rollercoaster of panic, confusion, and identity crisis (understandably so). ML, on the other hand, felt a little emotionally muted at first—almost too composed—but over time, their interactions started to grow on me.
Somewhere along the way, I stopped resisting the weirdness and started genuinely enjoying the dynamic. Maybe I was adjusting to the story’s tone… or maybe it’s the aforementioned Stockholm syndrome kicking in. Either way, I didn’t find myself cringing or rolling my eyes, which says a lot when you’re reading something so offbeat.
There are layers of awkward humor, genuine emotional growth, and even—spoiler-free wink—a sweet resolution involving kids and a happy ending (yes, it’s HE!). What started as a hard pass turned into a pretty heartfelt journey.
Will I read it again? Yeah, probably. Not tomorrow, but maybe again sometime.
Final Verdict: Surprisingly emotional, a little chaotic, and very human. If you’re open to the genre (or even mildly curious), give it a go. It might surprise you the way it surprised me.
