The story follows Lin Yuan, an assault-type guide who ends up with a state-assigned fiancé, Jiang Yangshuo, from a prestigious family. Everyone thinks this pairing is doomed because Lin Yuan’s tea ceremony skills and cooking aren’t exactly top-notch. So when Jiang shows up with another woman, Lin Yuan ditches the engagement ring and embraces her freedom. You go, girl!
Fast forward a few years, and Jiang is regretting his decision big time. He tries to win Lin Yuan back, but she’s not having it. She even claims she has a new sentinel, picking the name of a comrade from the battlefield. And guess what? She bumps into him right after! Talk about timing!
I absolutely loved this novel. The story, characters, and their development were spot-on. Lin Yuan stays overpowered and in control throughout, and her relationship with the ML doesn’t overshadow her journey. The side characters were equally well-developed, and their growth was moving to watch.
What struck me most was how the novel portrays villains. It shows that they aren’t born evil; they’re made by circumstances. Even the last queen, who seemed ruthless, was just trying to save humanity in her own way. It’s thought-provoking and leaves you pondering what could be and what might have been.
