We are happy to announce that Echoes of My Heart Throughout the Court has officially been completely translated on WTNovels.
And personally, this one is very special to me.
This was the first “hearing thoughts in court” novel I translated, and even after translating other novels with similar settings, Echoes of My Heart Throughout the Court still remains the one that left the deepest impression on me.
A Special Novel Among Court Thought-Reading Stories
After translating this novel, I also translated Let All the Officials Hear My Thoughts; I’m Just Going to Slack off and Watch the Drama, and recently started Substituting for My Brother at Court, the Entire Civil and Military Court Joined Me in Gossiping.
I have enjoyed all three novels in their own way. They all carry that fun court-gossip atmosphere where officials, emperors, ministers, and nobles accidentally become part of the protagonist’s chaotic inner monologue.
But among them, Echoes of My Heart Throughout the Court feels different.
This one does not rely on pointless romance. It does not constantly push forced comedy just for laughs. Instead, it feels more genuine, more natural, and somehow more real despite having such a hilarious and absurd premise.
The comedy comes from the situation itself. Xu Yanmiao is not trying to be some mastermind. He is not trying to shake the court. He is just a lazy modern person who transmigrated into ancient times, got stuck with a gossip system, and wants to quietly survive.
Unfortunately for him, the entire court can hear his thoughts.
About the Story
Xu Yanmiao travels back to ancient times, but there is one major problem: he is not suited for ancient official life at all.
He is lazy, uninterested in politics, and his main skill is internet cybersecurity, which is completely useless in an ancient imperial court.
Then he gets bound to a system.
At first, that sounds like good news.
Except the system is not a fortune-telling system, not a power-up system, and not some world-saving golden finger. It is a Gossip System that contains other people’s secrets, scandals, and private information.
Even worse, the system is glitchy.
And Xu Yanmiao’s new identity is a minor court official who has to attend imperial court meetings.
He does not understand the classics. He cannot write properly with a brush. He does not know how to act like a real ancient scholar-official. And soon, he is at risk of being exposed for cheating in the imperial exams.
His plan is simple: lie low, wait quietly, and maybe if things go badly enough, he might die and transmigrate again.
But the court has other plans.
Why This Novel Works So Well
The best part of Echoes of My Heart Throughout the Court is how natural the chaos feels.
Xu Yanmiao is not deliberately exposing anyone. He is just browsing his Gossip System in his head while pretending to pay attention during court meetings.
But while he is silently reacting to scandal after scandal, the emperor and officials are forced to listen to every outrageous thought.
The result is hilarious, but not in a noisy or exaggerated way. The humor works because everyone around him has to pretend they did not hear anything while desperately reacting to the shocking information he accidentally reveals.
The officials panic. The emperor loses control. Ministers jump in with ridiculous excuses just to stop Xu Yanmiao from thinking any further. Everyone becomes terrified of what he might expose next.
And yet, beneath all the comedy, there is warmth.
The court gradually changes. The emperor and officials begin to protect Xu Yanmiao in their own strange ways. What starts as fear of being exposed slowly turns into concern, affection, loyalty, and a very unusual found-family feeling.
My Personal Thoughts
I really loved this novel.
Among the three court thought-reading novels I have worked on, Echoes of My Heart Throughout the Court is still the true gem for me.
Let All the Officials Hear My Thoughts; I’m Just Going to Slack off and Watch the Drama and Substituting for My Brother at Court, the Entire Civil and Military Court Joined Me in Gossiping are fun and enjoyable, but they lean much more into forced comedy and are better as one-time reads.
Echoes of My Heart Throughout the Court, however, has something more.
It feels sincere.
It has humor, but it is not empty. It has court drama, but it does not become overly heavy. It has emotional moments, but it does not need romance to make the story meaningful.
Xu Yanmiao’s relationship with the emperor and the court is what makes this novel stand out. Watching everyone slowly grow attached to him was one of my favorite parts of the story.
And yes, spoiler warning for the extras:
The final extras made me so emotional. They all went back to modern times, and Xu Yanmiao was practically adopted by His Majesty. That ending felt so warm and satisfying. It gave the story a soft closing that made me love it even more.
Final Recommendation
If you enjoy court gossip, thought-reading misunderstandings, ancient politics, found family, and comedy that still has genuine heart, then Echoes of My Heart Throughout the Court is absolutely worth reading.
It is funny, clever, emotional, and surprisingly sincere.
This novel was a special read for me, and I truly hope you will love it just as much as I did.
