Song Yunfei stood at the door with a blank expression, because she had just arrived.
“What?”
Bai Yu said, “Didn’t you hear? This patient just said he’s very vengeful and will repay anyone who has wronged him many times over.”
There was a smile in Bai Yu’s eyes. The darker Chu Jinhan’s expression became, the brighter his smile grew.
Song Yunfei subconsciously glanced at Chu Jinhan and was also startled by his expression.
“This patient, please continue,” Bai Yu looked at Chu Jinhan with a meaningful smile.
He wanted to see what Chu Jinhan would say next. If he gave an explanation, it would almost certainly confirm that he had already regained his memory.
But Chu Jinhan said nothing. Instead, the look he gave Bai Yu carried even more killing intent than before.
Bai Yu looked completely innocent and continued to expose him. “Why are you looking at me like that? Didn’t you say that yourself?”
Chu Jinhan suddenly stood up, turned around, and walked out of the clinic—dragging the still-dazed Song Yunfei along with him.
Song Yunfei followed him nervously from behind. He walked so fast that she had to jog just to keep up.
Standing on the escalator, Song Yunfei stole a glance at him.
She hadn’t heard everything earlier, but she caught fragments about “repaying” and such.
She tentatively asked, “Is what Bai Yu said true?”
Chu Jinhan turned his head to look at her.
After a moment of silence, he said, “I said I was going to bring him some local specialty. He’s just talking nonsense.”
Song Yunfei scratched her chin in doubt. That did sound somewhat like what she had heard—could she have misheard?
“What local specialty are you planning to give him?”
Chu Jinhan’s gaze turned cold as he looked toward the direction of the consultation room and slowly said, “I’ll give him a custom-made stethoscope.”
Song Yunfei froze slightly. “Huh? What does that have to do with local specialties?”
“So he can understand human language sooner.”
“….”
These two seemed to have sparks flying every time they met, and both of them had equally sharp tongues.
Song Yunfei didn’t want to use Bai Yu’s appointment either, but he was currently the only doctor available in that department.
Of course, besides that, she also wanted Bai Yu to test out exactly what Chu Jinhan had remembered.
Now it seemed that the attempt had failed.
The two of them walked to the parking lot, and Song Yunfei got into the car with a heavy heart.
Just as Chu Jinhan opened the car door, his phone suddenly rang. He glanced at the caller ID, then closed the car door again.
He walked a few steps away to answer the call. Song Yunfei looked at his back with suspicion, but she had no intention of sneaking over to listen.
The call was from Wei Ke.
Chu Jinhan answered in a low voice, “You’d better have something important.”
Wei Ke replied awkwardly, “Mr. Chu, it really is important. Madam has been looking for you everywhere. How’s your investigation going? When are you coming back?”
He had only gone back for a few days, and now he had been unreachable for another seven or eight days. Wei Ke had assumed he had gone missing again.
“What does she want with me?”
“She probably misses you. You only stayed with them for two days last time, and now you’ve disappeared again. Madam is worried about you. Why don’t you call her? Otherwise, she might start investigating you herself.”
Previously, she couldn’t find him because all traces had been erased.
Now, however, finding his location would be very easy.
Chu Jinhan pondered for a moment before saying, “I understand.”
Wei Ke added, “You should come back soon and make preparations. You’ve been missing for over half a year—there are many things that need to be handled.”
He finished speaking, but before he could hear a response, the call had already ended.
Song Yunfei watched as he answered one call and then made another. After that second call lasted more than ten minutes, he finally returned to the car.
By then, it was almost evening. Chu Jinhan drove to the supermarket and bought ingredients for dinner before heading back home.
Seeing that Chu Jinhan looked preoccupied, Song Yunfei didn’t ask further.
She had a feeling that Chu Jinhan might be going on another business trip.
She didn’t know where this intuition came from, but she just had that feeling.
As for what Bai Yu had said in the afternoon, she didn’t think she had misheard. The expression on Chu Jinhan’s face at that time couldn’t lie.
During dinner, Song Yunfei noticed that he seemed distracted. The food he picked for her had piled up into a small mountain, and the last chicken wing couldn’t fit—it slipped off and fell onto the table.
Song Yunfei couldn’t help but ask, “Do you have something on your mind?”
Chu Jinhan snapped back to attention, looked at her, then at the chicken wing that had fallen onto the table.
“There are some matters at the factory.”
“Oh, related to the new client?”
“Yes.”
Song Yunfei couldn’t tell whether what he said was true, but she didn’t ask further.
The next morning, Song Yunfei had already turned off her alarm when Chu Jinhan woke her up from bed.
She rubbed her eyes sleepily and looked at him. “What is it?”
“Get up and eat. Aren’t you going to work today?”
Song Yunfei paused. She realized she hadn’t told him that she had resigned.
She sat up from the bed, feeling a bit guilty. “Um… I quit my job.”
Chu Jinhan frowned slightly. “Why did you suddenly quit?”
Song Yunfei smiled. “No performance, too much pressure, and not enough money. Also, it’s almost the New Year, so I decided to quit and find another job after the holidays.”
Chu Jinhan stared at her for a long time, as if trying to see through her completely. His gaze made Song Yunfei’s scalp tingle.
Could it be that her explanation had some flaw?
It seemed fine to her.
Bracing herself, she said, “What’s wrong? Weren’t you the one who told me not to work before? Now that I’ve quit, you’re not happy?”
Chu Jinhan gently shook his head. “No. Then you should rest well. Get up and eat.”
“Okay.”
Song Yunfei secretly breathed a sigh of relief and quickly got dressed.
After breakfast, Chu Jinhan went to the factory.
Today, there was an additional person in the office—and it was none other than Manager He’s ex-wife.
After several days of consideration, Manager He had truly run out of options and had gone to his ex-wife in a humble and apologetic manner.
Although the two of them had been competing for clients, it had all stemmed from a desire to prove themselves right out of pride.
Now, Manager He had finally admitted defeat.
Because he realized that when it came to major decisions like this, he truly wasn’t as capable as his ex-wife.
After reading the contract he brought, Wang Xinjun immediately told him to agree to Chu Jinhan’s proposal.
For a company of that size to allow him to bring back a stamped contract already proved Chu Jinhan’s capability—and the trust the other company had in him. And even then, he was still worried there wouldn’t be future orders?
Wang Xinjun almost wanted to slam the contract onto Manager He’s forehead.
Manager He suddenly felt enlightened. He almost knelt down on the spot to ask for reconciliation, but was frightened off by his ex-wife’s disgusted look.
In the end, the two reached a cooperation agreement.
Leasing an entire factory building was too much for Manager He to handle alone, but with cooperation, things became much easier.
Wang Xinjun was far more astute than Manager He. During the exhibition before, she had already felt that Chu Jinhan was no ordinary person.
Now that such a profitable opportunity had presented itself, she naturally wouldn’t refuse Manager He—despite the fact that he was her ex-husband whom she disliked.
The three of them held a meeting in the office to discuss the next steps.
Whether it was cooperation or integration, they needed a clear plan. Leasing the entire factory building was also a significant undertaking, after all, there were still many other factories operating in that building.
