The first official breakup ended in failure.
Tang Zhen and 111 began to analyze the situation, but after an hour of reviewing, neither of them could make sense of anything.
111 looked utterly baffled. 【No problem, Zhen! Everything is according to the mission—so why is this happening now?】
Tang Zhen propped her chin in one hand, blinking those beautiful eyes, her tone dazed. “111, I don’t know either.”
Her mouth still hurt from kissing.
But when she was with Ren Yanjing, she had been so happy—the world seemed to exist only for the two of them, with an exclusive, fated closeness…
It was intoxicating.
Tang Zhen shook her head to regain her composure.
A supporting female must maintain her role awareness.
Because the breakup had failed, Tang Zhen felt dizzy and disoriented. She’d eaten breakfast not long ago but was already hungry.
Aunt Yu wasn’t around, so Ren Yanjing made her a sandwich.
Though simple, it tasted surprisingly good.
As she ate seriously, Ren Yanjing had already found out who had been spreading nonsense in front of Tang Zhen—
—Li Ran.
This information had been gathered by Zhang Mian from Tang Zhen’s roommate.
It happened on the very day he went to the Media Arts department to pick Tang Zhen up. Li Ran had just finished talking with her.
Even Tang Zhen’s roommate didn’t know the details of their conversation, only that Li Ran had sounded aggressive.
He didn’t know this person at all. Why would she say these things in front of his girlfriend?
Was his going abroad really anyone else’s business?
Zhang Mian asked over the phone, “What are you going to do?”
What to do?
“First, talk to her counselor.”
If that didn’t work, then deal with the follow-up.
This was Li Ran’s first time being summoned by a counselor over personal matters.
The counselor was still shocked.
In her impression, Li Ran was excellent, intelligent, grounded, goal-oriented, ambitious.
But according to Ren Yanjing, how could she be someone with no sense of boundaries?
Seeing her enter, the counselor said, “Please sit.”
Li Ran sat down calmly.
But only she knew her palms were sweaty.
“Counselor, what did you want to see me about?”
The counselor awkwardly picked up a cup of water and took a sip. “It’s like this. Ren Yanjing said you said some inexplicable things in front of his girlfriend?”
“Why did you go to his girlfriend, and what did you say?”
Li Ran clenched her right hand slightly and spoke with moral righteousness. “Counselor, it’s like this. I went to his girlfriend because I heard he refused the opportunity to study abroad.”
“Ren Yanjing and I are, on one hand, competitors, and on the other, schoolmates and colleagues—we both research robotics. I admire him and don’t want him to let romance derail his future.”
“If that happened, I would lose respect for him.”
Li Ran took a deep breath, her words firm: “I hope he’s an opponent I can admire, not someone who’s lost in love and can’t focus on his path.”
At first glance, her words seemed fine—but on closer inspection, there were many problems.
The counselor cleared her throat lightly and offered advice. “Li Ran, that’s Ren Yanjing’s life. He has the right to make his own decisions. Neither he nor his counselor, nor his homeroom teacher, has said anything about it.”
The unspoken message: you’re overstepping.
Li Ran’s fist on her lap tightened slightly. “Counselor, I meant well…”
“I know.” Since she said she meant well, let it be taken as well-intentioned. The truth doesn’t matter.
“But Ren Yanjing doesn’t need your ‘good intentions.’ In the future, don’t meddle in his affairs, and don’t say anything in front of his girlfriend, okay?”
Li Ran’s heart was full of frustration, and she stiffly replied, “Okay.”
After leaving the counselor’s office, Li Ran took several deep breaths to calm herself.
She muttered under her breath, “Tang… Zhen!”
After eating her sandwich, Tang Zhen went out to play in the snow with Ren Yanjing.
The snowfall over the past couple of days had been particularly heavy, and in no time a thick layer had accumulated on the ground.
She wore a long, thick down jacket, a hat, gloves, and snow boots, looking like an adorable little penguin.
Ren Yanjing held her hand, walking slowly with her across the snow.
As they were walking, a runaway electric scooter suddenly slid past Tang Zhen at high speed, crashing chaotically toward the street until it hit a tree and stopped.
Luckily, Ren Yanjing reacted quickly, pulling her close. Otherwise, she could have been hit.
Tang Zhen was stunned.
111 screamed in shock, 【Ahhhh Zhen!!!】
Ren Yanjing hugged her tightly, scanning her from head to toe. “Are you okay, baby?”
Tang Zhen opened her mouth, and after a few seconds found her voice. “I’m fine.”
Ren Yanjing glanced back and saw the scooter’s owner running toward them. Even before reaching them, he apologized, “I’m so sorry! The scooter suddenly went out of control. Sorry for scaring your girlfriend.”
Ren Yanjing’s face was as cold as ice, but the owner’s earnest apology left him with no way to vent his anger.
He held Tang Zhen close, comforting her until she calmed down.
Tang Zhen nodded softly, “Mm.”
Once she had recovered, Ren Yanjing took out his phone and reported the scooter’s reckless driving to the property management.
The management was in a tough spot—they couldn’t just ban scooters entirely.
They replied, “Mr. Ren, we’ll try to fix it, try to fix it…”
Ren Yanjing’s tone was firm: “Not ‘try’—do it as soon as possible.”
“Alright,” they responded.
While Tang Zhen was being comforted in Ren Yanjing’s arms, 111 had already run crying to seek help from senior systems.
【Senior systems! My host is about to be killed by the plot! Save us!】
Coincidentally, a senior system in the male lead department was on break. Lazily, 666 asked, 【What happened?】
111 replied, 【Today, the supporting female was supposed to break up with the male lead, but the breakup failed. After failing, my host was nearly plot-killed!】
666 snorted, explaining to the newbie system, 【Plot-kill doesn’t happen that fast. Today’s worst-case is just a warning—a warning for slacking off, to hurry them through the storyline.】
The host wouldn’t really be in danger—just a little scare.
111 said firmly, 【No slacking off!】
Both 111 and Tang Zhen had been performing their tasks actively.
How could the senior say they were slacking off? That was defamation!
666 continued, 【How did the breakup fail?】
111 was clueless. 【I don’t know either.】
666, speechless at the newbie system, said, 【Share the visual from the novel world.】
111 did so.
After seeing it, 666 exploded in frustration. 【You let your host raise the male lead’s favorability so high! If you don’t fail, who does?】
111 timidly replied, 【We… we didn’t raise favorability…】
666 pointed and gestured. 【Based on my experience, with this male lead and all his actions toward the supporting female, his favorability couldn’t possibly be low. What did you do?】
111 gasped. 【We… just followed the mission!” Then suddenly remembered something. 【I even asked senior 001. Senior 001 said it was fine.】
001?
666 scolded again. 【That’s the Gold Standard Scumbag System from the scumbag department! What good is asking it? Every scumbag it touched could break hearts with a single ‘I love you.’ The male lead, though—he genuinely cares. Can you compare the two?】
111 cautiously asked, 【Then… what should we do?】
666 snorted, 【Relax. I’ll help you.】
Then, assuming a senior attitude, 666 declared, 【With me stepping in, I refuse to believe this breakup can’t succeed!】
