Hearing the words “I like you the most”, Tang Zhen’s heart skipped a beat.
Even though it was Zhenguai saying it, she couldn’t help but think of Ren Yanjing.
After all, he had programmed the data.
When did he input these lines?
And what was he thinking when he did?
111 almost started fangirling again, but then it remembered that Tang Zhen’s favorability with Ren Yanjing had already dropped quite a bit, so this line was likely just a simple greeting with no special meaning.
Robots were all cute anyway.
The first line of self-introduction should definitely be a little adorable.
Besides, Ren Yanjing hated sloppy and self-centered people the most—and recently, Tang Zhen unfortunately fit both descriptions.
So there was absolutely no extra meaning in that sentence!
That evening, while having dinner together, Ren Yanjing casually asked, “Was Zhenguai obedient today?”
Thinking of the new member of the household, Tang Zhen’s expression softened, and she said, “It’s super obedient.”
“Really?” Ren Yanjing leaned in slightly, eyes twinkling with a smile. “Can it be as obedient as you?”
Tang Zhen blushed slightly, annoyed, “I’m not obedient.”
After all, on Aunt Yu’s first morning visit, Tang Zhen hadn’t even washed her face or brushed her teeth before appearing in front of her.
It had been incredibly rude.
Aunt Yu must have thought she was ill-mannered.
Ren Yanjing reached out and brushed stray hairs from her face. “Really? I don’t think so.” Then he cleared his throat and asked, “Has Zhenguai greeted you?”
Thinking of Zhenguai’s opening line, Tang Zhen bit her lip and nodded.
“Do you like it?”
Did she like it, or did she like him?
Tang Zhen lowered her gaze, looking at the braised prawns in front of her, and said softly, “I really like Zhenguai.”
Good, that’s what matters.
Ren Yanjing smiled in satisfaction. “Then tonight, let it sleep with you. It can even tell you a bedtime story.”
Tang Zhen: …
She wasn’t a child anymore—she didn’t need bedtime stories.
But if Zhenguai could keep her company, that didn’t sound so bad.
Near the end of dinner, Ren Yanjing changed the topic. “Three of my friends just came back from abroad today. They want to hang out and asked me to bring my girlfriend. Baby, do you want to come?”
Before Tang Zhen could answer, 111 eagerly piped up in her mind: 【Go, go, go! You have to go!】
Tang Zhen first replied “okay” to Ren Yanjing, then asked 111, “What’s up? Why do I have to go?”
111 replied confidently: 【Because going will definitely trigger a mission.】
Coincidentally, Tang Zhen really needed to complete missions now to accumulate life points.
As soon as she finished dinner, Ren Yanjing led her out.
The meet-up was at a quiet bar. When they arrived, a singer was performing live on stage.
It was cold outside, but inside the warmth of the room felt like spring.
Ren Yanjing held Tang Zhen’s hand and led her to a table closest to the stage. Their three friends stood up in unison to greet them: “Yanjing, you’re here!”
Ren Yanjing nodded slightly and introduced them: “This is my girlfriend, Tang Zhen. These are Jiang Zhi, Zhang ZiWang, and Dong Chao.”
Zhang ZiWang had a sunny, cheerful face. “Hi, Tang Zhen, I’ve heard so much about you.”
Dong Chao smiled warmly. “Nice to meet you. We three have known Ren Yanjing since elementary school through high school, until college. We’ve known him for many years.”
Jiang Zhi smiled gently. “Hello, you’re really pretty.”
Tang Zhen greeted each of them in turn.
Once seated, they started reminiscing about growing up together. Among a group of lifelong friends, it was easiest to recall the past.
From their conversation, Tang Zhen realized that Shen Qi had been their high school classmate.
Originally, Shen Qi could have gone to B University, but because Ren Yanjing chose B University, he proactively chose F University, one of the top two schools in the country.
From this, it was clear that Shen Qi was an overly proud person—there seemed to be a mindset of “I can’t be classmates with Ren Yanjing, can’t be friends, so I can only be a rival.”
But admittedly, he was a bit willful.
The four of them had grown up together from elementary school, through middle school, and into high school—a total of twelve years.
They really had known each other for a very long time.
Tang Zhen felt as if she was glimpsing a little of Ren Yanjing’s youthful past.
It was like the present, and yet very different.
It was a past she had never participated in.
Just as she heard Jiang Zhi sharing funny stories about attending summer camp together in elementary school, she suddenly received a new mission.
【Mission 19: Leave in front of Ren Yanjing and coldly ignore him for fifteen minutes!】
Tang Zhen blinked in confusion. “What? Why do I have to leave?”
111 explained, 【In the original story, the female supporting character could never accept Jiang Zhi’s presence. Jiang Zhi grew up with the male lead. Although she went abroad for college, every time she returned she would have a small meet-up with the male lead. The supporting character always got jealous, but the male lead said she was being unreasonable.】
【So each time, the supporting character would have a cold war with the male lead! And then sheepishly return to make up afterward.】
【Xiao Zhen, now it’s your turn to be unreasonable!】
But from Tang Zhen’s perspective, Jiang Zhi was warm and gentle. Her voice was soft, her tone comforting, and she never ignored anyone. She always made conversation and engaged everyone she spoke with.
Tang Zhen didn’t feel excluded from this little group at all.
Jiang Zhi truly was a very considerate and thoughtful girl.
111 gasped, 【Xiao Zhen, didn’t you notice? Jiang Zhi has a crush on the male lead. But her love is like a trickling stream—subtle, yet continuous.】
Tang Zhen was a bit surprised. “Then she really is a gentle person.”
She genuinely hadn’t noticed Jiang Zhi liked Ren Yanjing.
Perhaps even Ren Yanjing himself didn’t know.
Such a crush didn’t disturb anyone or cause any trouble. It was silent, steady attention, like water flowing—quiet yet enduring.
It was a crush she could be proud of.
【Xiao Zhen, enough talking—complete your mission!】
【As the female supporting character, you should be angry and jealous now, because this is a past you could never be part of!】
【She would be upset!】
Tang Zhen rubbed her nose.
They were in the middle of a lively conversation—interrupting them didn’t feel right.
But 111 kept urging, 【Xiao Zhen, go! If the gathering ends, this mission will automatically fail!】
【They’ll be moving on to the next event soon.】
Tang Zhen glanced at Ren Yanjing, who was relaxed and chatting with his three old friends. She hesitated a moment, then stood up. “I’ll step out for a bit.” She tried to pull her hand from his.
Since entering, Ren Yanjing hadn’t let go. Even while chatting with his friends, he kept holding her hand, occasionally stroking the back of it or squeezing her palm.
Just as Tang Zhen was about to speak, 111 reminded her, 【Cold war! Coldly ignore him!】
Tang Zhen wasn’t sure how to execute a proper cold war, so she stayed silent. In the end, Jiang Zhi came to the rescue. “Going to the restroom?”
Without waiting for confirmation, Tang Zhen nodded.
Jiang Zhi smiled warmly. “I was planning to go too. Let’s go together.”
“Okay.”
Tang Zhen and Jiang Zhi went to the restroom. When they came out, they saw Ren Yanjing waiting at the door. Jiang Zhi wisely stepped aside, giving them space.
Tang Zhen remembered the mission and tried to silently pass by him—but failed.
Ren Yanjing blocked her, stopping her from walking away. “Baby, what’s wrong? Why aren’t you saying anything?”
He was tall, fully blocking her path. From the shadow on the wall, it almost looked like he was embracing her.
Tang Zhen blinked. “Who are you? Do I know you?”
Pretending not to know him was probably part of the cold-shoulder tactic.
But her voice was too soft, and her eyes too clear and bright, so she didn’t seem cold at all.
Ren Yanjing lowered his head and played along.
Ah—how could she look so cute even while deliberately pretending not to know him?
