During the May Day holiday, the spring scenery was bright and beautiful.

Father Song and Mother Qu also arranged time to return to the country—this was the first formal meeting between the two families.

Leng Qinghua took it very seriously. She had Lu Chen book the largest private room in a high-end Chinese restaurant in City A well in advance.

She even personally reviewed the menu to ensure it was refined without being overly extravagant.

The day before the meeting, Lu Er was unusually a little nervous.

Although he had met Song Jingmo’s parents the last time they returned, that had been more like a private visit.

This time, however, was a formal meeting between the two families—completely different in significance.

He rummaged through his wardrobe, trying outfit after outfit, yet none felt formal enough.

Song Jingmo, on the other hand, remained calm. Watching Lu Er pacing around the walk-in closet like an anxious little deer, he couldn’t help but pull him over.

Holding him in his arms, he kissed him lightly. “Don’t be nervous. You’ve already met my parents—they really like you.”

“That’s different…” Lu Er muttered. “This time it’s a formal family meeting. My brother and sister-in-law will be there too—and your sister.”

“Relax. I’m here,” Song Jingmo said, his voice carrying a strange, calming reassurance. “Take it easy.”

Early on May Day morning, Lu Er was dragged out of bed by Song Jingmo. After getting neatly dressed, the two set off early for the airport to pick up his family.

At the international arrivals hall, the crowd bustled with activity.

“Dad, Mom, Nanzhi—you must be tired from the journey,” Song Jingmo said, stepping forward to take the luggage cart.

“Hello, Uncle and Auntie. Hello, Nanzhi,” Lu Er greeted quickly, smiling brightly and looking especially well-behaved.

“Er’er, we meet again. You look great,” Mother Qu said warmly, holding Lu Er’s hand as she examined him with undisguised fondness. “You look even more energetic than in the video last time.”

Father Song also nodded with a smile. “Thank you for coming to pick us up.”

Song Nanzhi’s voice carried a youthful liveliness: “Hello, sister-in-law!”

Lu Er: “……”

Mother Qu gave her a light tap. “You child, don’t mess around later.”

Song Nanzhi stuck out her tongue. “I know, I know. I’ll behave like a delicate doll later and won’t hold my brother back.”

The group got into the car and headed toward the restaurant.

Inside the private room, Leng Qinghua had already arrived with Lu Chen and Luo Bingbing.

Seeing Song Jingmo enter with his parents and sister, Leng Qinghua stood up from the head seat, wearing a polite and reserved smile as she stepped forward to greet them.

“You must have had a tiring journey. Welcome back.”

Her voice was gentle, carrying both warmth and proper restraint. “You must be Nanzhi? You’ve grown so much—very beautiful.”

Lu Chen and Luo Bingbing also offered polite greetings.

“You’re too kind,” Father Song replied with a modest smile. “We should be the ones thanking you for your hospitality. Over the years, Jingmo has received much care from you while in City A.”

Mother Qu also held Leng Qinghua’s hand sincerely. “Yes, Sister Qinghua. Back when Jingmo was studying, he often visited your home, and later with Er’er…”

“For the two children to come this far, it’s thanks to your understanding and support. We truly appreciate it.”

Leng Qinghua’s smile softened. “It’s all fate between the children. Please, have a seat. You must be tired—have some tea first.”

The two families took their seats as host and guests.

With Mother Qu and Leng Qinghua chatting, the atmosphere gradually relaxed. Luo Bingbing’s cheerful personality kept the conversation light and lively.

Lu Chen discussed broader topics like economics and scientific research with Father Song, and they hit it off quite well.

Sitting to the side, Lu Er and Song Jingmo watched their parents chatting happily. The weight that had been hanging over their hearts finally lifted.

At the dining table, the dishes were exquisite and delicious.

Mother Qu set down her spoon and looked at Leng Qinghua. “As parents who are often away, we inevitably fall short in accompanying and taking care of our children.”

“We feel very reassured about Jingmo and Er’er being together. They love each other—that’s more important than anything. We sincerely hope they can live well together.”

Leng Qinghua dabbed the corner of her mouth with a napkin. “Er’er has a lively temperament and even ventured into the entertainment industry. Fortunately, he’s settled down now. Jingmo is steady and responsible—with him watching over Er’er, I have nothing to worry about.”

Father Song spoke calmly, “Er’er is a good child—smart, thoughtful, and deeply affectionate. As elders, we support whatever decisions they make.”

After the meal, Song Jingmo drove his parents and sister home.

Lu Er returned to the old residence with Leng Qinghua, Lu Chen, and Luo Bingbing.

As Lu Chen drove, he glanced at his younger brother through the rearview mirror, noticing the lingering smile at the corner of his lips. He couldn’t help teasing, “Not bad—you actually managed to win Song Jingmo over.”

“Not only did his parents not chase you out with a broom, they’re even this satisfied with you. Did you put some kind of spell on Doctor Song?”

Lu Er lifted his chin and huffed, “What do you mean I ‘won him over’? Brother, get it straight—Song Jingmo liked me back in high school.”

“He’s had a crush on me for a long time. I’m the one who almost got tricked away, okay~”

Luo Bingbing laughed and chimed in, “Yes, yes, our Er’er is very charming. But Jingmo really is a good kid—you can tell he’s reliable at a glance.”

“In the future, live well with Jingmo.”

Leng Qinghua’s voice softened. “For a family like his, it’s not easy for his parents to agree to your relationship. You must cherish it and act sensibly.”

“Even though you’re no longer in the entertainment industry, you still run an entertainment company. There will always be messy situations—try to keep a low profile.”

“Don’t be like before, making headlines over trivial matters and giving others something to talk about. Stay steady—it’s better for both of you and for both families.”

Lu Er felt warmth in his heart and nodded seriously. “I understand, Mom. I’ll be careful.”

Lu Chen asked while driving, “By the way, have you and Jingmo thought about marriage?”

The question made the car fall silent for a moment.

Lu Er paused, about to answer, but Leng Qinghua spoke first, “As long as two people truly love each other, whether that piece of paper exists or not isn’t important.”

“With Jingmo’s parents’ background, many things become sensitive. If you register your marriage and someone makes an issue out of it, it wouldn’t be good for them.”

Song Jingmo’s parents held important positions, and their identities were sensitive—the simpler and more low-key their family relations, the better.

If Lu Er and Song Jingmo registered their marriage abroad and became legal spouses, and it was discovered by the media or ill-intentioned people, it could affect Father Song and Mother Qu’s work.

Lu Er said, “Auntie actually asked us privately whether we wanted to go abroad to register.”

Luo Bingbing asked curiously, “And you…?”

“I didn’t agree.”

Lu Er smiled. “At the time, I told her my mom hadn’t agreed yet, and it felt too early.”

“And just like Mom said, registering would more or less affect Uncle and Auntie. Jingmo and I don’t need that piece of paper to prove anything.”

Lu Chen’s gaze held a trace of approval and pride.

His younger brother had truly grown up—his thinking had become much more thoughtful and mature.
