“Director,” a sickly sweet voice called from the doorway, “you were looking for me?”

Zhao Lishan stepped in on her thin high heels and stopped in front of the desk. Her hands were folded neatly in front of her, putting on a well-behaved act.

Song Jingmo pulled a document from a folder and handed it over. “Take this to Dr. Yin in orthopedics.”

“Alright.”

Zhao Lishan accepted it but didn’t leave. Instead, she smiled and asked, “Director, you seem really busy these past few days. Is there anything you’d like me to help arrange?”

Without even looking up, Song Jingmo replied, “No need.”

Zhao Lishan leaned in slightly and noticed he was booking a flight. Her voice softened further. “Are you going somewhere? I can help book flights and hotels.”

Song Jingmo finally raised his head, his brows faintly furrowed as his gaze landed on her face.

His tone turned colder. “Just do your job.”

The smile on Zhao Lishan’s face froze for a moment before quickly returning to normal.

Her eyes casually swept over his hand—his long, defined fingers were idly turning the ring on his left hand.

The meaning was obvious.

A flicker of darkness passed through Zhao Lishan’s eyes. She obediently acknowledged and left the office with the document.

Song Jingmo rubbed his temples, then opened WeChat and sent Lu Er a message:

“Is your face okay? When does the award ceremony end?”

After waiting a few minutes with no reply—she was probably busy—he quickly packed up and drove toward the airport.

Orthopedics Office.

Yin Siyao sat behind his desk, reviewing preoperative materials for the next day’s surgery. A red pen in his hand marked notes across the pages from time to time.

A knock sounded on the door.

“Come in.”

His tone carried a hint of distance.

Zhao Lishan walked in, her long hair curling softly over her shoulders. Her white coat was unbuttoned, revealing a stretch of fair skin at her neck.

“Brother Yin,” she called sweetly.

Yin Siyao looked up, his frown deepening. “What is it?”

“The director asked me to deliver some documents.”

She placed the file on the desk, idly twirling a strand of her hair. “I saw him booking a flight. He looked in a hurry. Do you know where he’s going?”

Yin Siyao glanced at her, his tone flat. “There’s only one person in this world who can make him worry like that. Don’t you check Weibo?”

The smile on Zhao Lishan’s face faded slightly. “I know about him and Lu Er.”

“Since you know, don’t entertain thoughts you shouldn’t. If you want to stay at Kangren, just do your job properly.”

The words were blunt—almost merciless.

Zhao Lishan’s expression shifted, but she quickly composed herself.

Not only did she not step back, she moved even closer.

The sudden movement caught Yin Siyao off guard. He instinctively tried to lean back, but his chair had already hit the wall.

Zhao Lishan braced her hands on the desk, leaning forward so much she was almost lying across it.

One button of her white shirt collar was undone. With the motion, it opened slightly, revealing her delicate collarbone and a faint, teasing curve beneath.

“Zhao Lishan!”

Yin Siyao shot to his feet. The chair scraped loudly as it slid back half a meter. “Watch your behavior. This is an office.”

Zhao Lishan straightened, tossing her hair back, her eyes fixed boldly on his face. “Why are you so nervous? I’m not going to eat you.”

Yin Siyao’s expression darkened.

“Do you know who I am?”

She stepped forward again, nearly pressing against him. “The only daughter of the Zhao Group. I came to Kangren just to experience life.”

“So, how about it? Want to consider dating me?”

Yin Siyao’s mind went blank for three seconds, his brows knitting even tighter.

He shifted sideways. “Zhao Lishan, I’m in a relationship.”

“I know,” she blinked innocently. “Leng Keyan, a student from A University’s medical school. I don’t mind. A secret relationship works too.”

“Don’t worry, I’m very understanding. I won’t interfere with you two. We can keep it physical, no feelings involved.”

Yin Siyao: “…”

In his entire life, he had never been this speechless.

Looking at the heavily made-up yet frivolous face before him, Yin Siyao suddenly understood why Song Jingmo had repeatedly wanted to replace this assistant.

No wonder even Qu Weiwei couldn’t stand her—she had absolutely no moral boundaries.

Yin Siyao said sternly, “Zhao Lishan, I’m in a relationship, and we’re doing very well. I know you have connections, but please maintain proper professional distance.”

Zhao Lishan bit her lip, a trace of unwillingness flashing in her eyes.

She forced a smile. “You’re really boring.”

Ever since she was young, anything she wanted, she got.

Men were no exception.

With her looks, her figure, and her background, which man didn’t fawn over her?

Playing hard to get? She had all the time, energy, and means.

Yin Siyao sat back down. “I don’t want people to see this. It wouldn’t look good if word got out.”

From the doorway, Leng Keyan’s cold voice cut in: “Too late. I’ve already seen it.”

Because Zhao Lishan had been blocking the view, Yin Siyao hadn’t noticed anyone at the door.

Hearing the familiar voice, panic flashed across his face. “Yanyan, why are you here? You didn’t tell me in advance.”

Leng Keyan let out a cold laugh. “If I had, would I have gotten to see such a wonderful scene?”

Zhao Lishan turned to look at the person in the doorway—a bright, handsome young man, the kind of fresh-faced “puppy type.”

Leng Keyan wore a light gray hoodie under a denim jacket. The wind had tousled his hair into an effortlessly messy look.

He held a plastic bag in his hand, his gaze fixed on Zhao Lishan.

Her shirt collar was slightly open, her eyes faintly red, her face still flushed.

The three of them locked eyes in the charged silence.

The smile on Leng Keyan’s face faded bit by bit. He handed the milk tea in his hand to Yin Siyao without saying a word, then turned and left.

“Yanyan!”

Watching him run off, a surge of indescribable irritation and panic rose in Yin Siyao’s chest.

Zhao Lishan stood by the door, watching the scene unfold, a smug smile curling on her lips.

She turned back to Yin Siyao. “Your boyfriend… seems to have misunderstood. Kids really can’t take a joke. Want me to go explain for you?”

Yin Siyao shot her a cold look. “Get out.”

Zhao Lishan didn’t dare say anything more and left the office.

The door closed again.

Yin Siyao picked up his phone and called Leng Keyan.

It rang for a long time—no answer.

He called again.

Still nothing.

On the third attempt, the phone was already switched off.

He opened WeChat and sent a message: “Yanyan, where are you?”

Very quickly, a line of small text popped up on the screen:

“Message sent, but rejected by the recipient.”

Leng Keyan had blocked him.

Holding his phone, standing alone in the empty office, Yin Siyao felt a kind of helplessness he had never experienced before.
