After finishing their meal, Leng Keyan pushed Leng Qinghua downstairs in a wheelchair, heading to the small garden behind the inpatient department for some fresh air.

The afternoon sun was warm, and quite a few patients were strolling or sitting around leisurely.

Leng Keyan stopped beside a sunlit bench to let Leng Qinghua rest.

Not far away, several patients sat on rattan chairs, drinking tea and chatting.

One of them recognized Leng Qinghua and greeted her warmly with a smile, “Sister Leng, you’re looking quite well today.”

Leng Qinghua gave a slight nod. “Sister Zhou.”

Sister Zhou’s gaze fell on Leng Keyan. She sized him up carefully, her smile deepening. “And this handsome young man is…?”

“My grandson, Leng Keyan.”

“Keyan, what a fine young man!” Mrs. Zhou’s eyes lit up. “How old are you this year? Still studying, I assume?”

“Twenty-two. I study at A University’s medical school.”

Leng Keyan answered politely.

“A University medical school—top student, huh!” Mrs. Zhou grew even more enthusiastic. “Do you have a girlfriend? My daughter also studies at A University, in the literature department. She just turned twenty this year—beautiful and well-mannered.”

“How about I introduce you two? Young people should get to know each other. You can hang out, grab milk tea together or something.”

Leng Qinghua glanced at Leng Keyan.

Scratching his head, he looked a bit embarrassed. “Aunt Zhou, thank you for your kindness. But I already have a partner, and we’re doing great.”

“You already have someone?”

Mrs. Zhou couldn’t hide her disappointment, but still pressed on, “A classmate? Also in medicine? Which family’s girl is so lucky?”

Leng Keyan smiled and said frankly, “Not a girl. He’s a doctor.”

The smile on Mrs. Zhou’s face instantly froze, her expression turning rather awkward.

She glanced at Leng Qinghua, saw her calm expression, and gave a dry laugh. “Oh… a doctor… that’s… that’s good too. Stable job, similar interests…”

With that, she hurried back to her group, lowering her voice to whisper with her companions, occasionally casting glances over.

Leng Keyan pushed the wheelchair along the small path again. The sunlight fell warmly on their backs.

“Grandma,” he said as he walked, “were you upset by what I said just now?”

“Upset about what?”

“Well… about me having a partner. And that it’s a man.”

The rubber wheels rolled over the pebbled path, making a soft rustling sound.

Leng Qinghua was silent for a moment.

“That’s your business. Your parents aren’t upset—why should I be?”

Leng Keyan let out a sigh of relief, a smile returning to his face. “That’s good. I was worried you’d be angry.”

The wheelchair came to a stop.

Ahead was a patch of camellias in full bloom, their deep red flowers glowing like frozen flames under the winter sun.

Leng Qinghua looked at the red blossoms. “Even if I were angry, what would it change? None of you would listen to me anyway. You’d just resent me for breaking you apart.”

Leng Keyan stood quietly, then said after a while, “Uncle wouldn’t resent you. Neither would Teacher Song.”

“When you’re young, you always think reputation is everything, that other people’s opinions weigh more than mountains.”

She paused, her voice softening. “But thinking about it now… I’m not money. I can’t make everyone like me.”

“Xiao Er chose Dr. Song. You chose Dr. Yin. As an elder, even if I don’t approve, what can I do? I can’t live your lives for you.”

Leng Keyan’s nose suddenly stung. He crouched down to meet her gaze, his eyes reddening slightly. “Grandma, I’m sorry.”

Before he could finish speaking, a familiar figure appeared in the garden.

Yin Siyao, dressed in a neat white coat, held a blue folder in his hand.

“Teacher Yin, over here!”

Leng Keyan waved happily, his face lighting up.

Yin Siyao paused, looking over in their direction.

The moment he saw Leng Qinghua, his expression stiffened slightly, then he walked toward them.

“Aunt Leng.”

He stopped in front of the wheelchair and gave a slight bow. His tone was respectful, though a trace of tension could be heard.

Leng Qinghua nodded calmly.

Yin Siyao handed the folder to Leng Keyan. “Your case analysis report—I’ve finished marking it.”

“There’s confusion in the knee joint biomechanics section, and your derivation of cartilage metabolism is incorrect. Also, there are several formatting issues in your references.”

Leng Keyan opened the folder. It was filled with dense red annotations.

From pathological mechanisms to treatment plans, from data citations to wording and grammar—even a few spelling mistakes had been circled.

“Focus on these areas during your final review,” Yin Siyao said, pointing to several highlighted sections. “High probability on the exam. Ninety percent.”

Leng Keyan flipped through it again and again. “Wow, Teacher Yin, you’re so thorough!”

Yin Siyao raised an eyebrow. “If I weren’t, would you remember any of it?”

Hugging the folder, Leng Keyan grinned widely and instinctively leaned toward Yin Siyao.

He nuzzled his head affectionately against Yin Siyao’s arm. “With such an amazing boyfriend like Teacher Yin personally tutoring me, my full scholarship this semester is guaranteed.”

The boy’s voice was bright, full of undisguised dependence and pride—completely forgetting that Leng Qinghua was right beside them.

Yin Siyao’s ears turned red instantly. Slightly flustered, he pushed Leng Keyan away a bit and said in a low voice, “Behave.”

“There’s no one else here.”

Leng Keyan leaned closer again, like a clingy puppy. “I’m just telling the truth. Teacher Yin is the best.”

Watching their natural intimacy, Leng Qinghua’s expression darkened.

She looked Yin Siyao up and down with a critical gaze and said sarcastically, “Dr. Yin, your taste really isn’t that great.”

Yin Siyao stiffened slightly.

“Grandma?” Leng Keyan exclaimed.

“Choosing such a troublesome little thing—I really don’t know what you were thinking,” Leng Qinghua said, her eyes resting on Leng Keyan’s still-youthful face. “It’s like raising a child, just asking for trouble.”

Hearing this, Leng Keyan bristled immediately. “How am I troublesome? I’m clearly very well-behaved!”

“Medical textbooks are so thick, and exams are hard. If I don’t ask Teacher Yin for help, who should I ask? It’s fine if you don’t speak up for me, but why are you undermining me in front of him…?”

Seeing Leng Keyan’s indignant yet aggrieved expression, Yin Siyao’s tense lips softened, a trace of a smile flashing in his eyes.

“Aunt Leng,” Yin Siyao met her gaze calmly. “Yan Yan may be a bit lively by nature, but he studies hard, works seriously, and has a kind heart. He’s never caused me trouble.”

After a pause, his gaze shifted to Leng Keyan, softening. “Helping him organize knowledge points, revising his papers, watching him improve little by little…”

“All of that is something I do willingly. Being part of his growth, accompanying him as he becomes better—for me, it’s a blessing, not a burden.”

The garden fell silent. Sunlight poured over the three of them without restraint.

Yin Siyao’s eyes were clear and steady—no avoidance, no flattery—only calm honesty and firm protectiveness toward Leng Keyan.

Because of those few words, Leng Keyan’s puppy-like eyes lit up again.

After a long while, Leng Qinghua looked away. “If you two have things to do, go on. Don’t hover around an old woman like me.”
