At 9 p.m., the final scene of the day was finally wrapped up.

Lu Er let out a big yawn, the corners of his eyes moist with sleepy tears.

“Wrap!”

The director shouted through a megaphone, “Great work, everyone. Take the morning off tomorrow—resume shooting at 2 p.m. sharp.”

A wave of relieved cheers broke out on set.

Lu Er rubbed his stiff neck and walked toward the rest area.

Bai Zhi was already waiting there, holding a thermos and a coat.

She draped the coat over Lu Er’s shoulders and thoughtfully handed him the thermos. “Drink this.”

“I simmered some rock sugar pear soup for hours—it’ll soothe your throat. You had so many lines today, your voice is practically hoarse.”

Lu Er gulped down more than half the cup in one go, finally feeling a bit more alive.

As Bai Zhi packed up, she teased, “So, when you went back to celebrate Doctor Song’s birthday… did the proposal succeed?”

Lu Er nearly choked on his drink. “Cough… cough… what proposal?”

“Stop playing dumb. Are you even hiding it from me now?”

Bai Zhi rolled her eyes. “I watched you spend five million on a pair of rings. What, you still haven’t given them to him?”

Lu Er froze on the spot.

The five-million ring.

He had actually forgotten to give it to Song Jingmo.

Lu Er opened his mouth. “I… I…”

At first, he had remembered the ring.

He had even pushed Song Jingmo away, telling him to slow down and wait for a moment.

But that guy had been too busy “eating cake” and refused to let him go.

In the end, Lu Er was so exhausted that he passed out.

The next day at the birthday banquet, he had planned to have them wear the rings together.

But Song Jingmo kept clinging to him for kisses, and he forgot all about it again.

Seeing his expression turn off, Bai Zhi panicked. “What’s wrong? Did you lose the ring? Don’t panic—think carefully about where you put it…”

“I didn’t lose it… I just forgot to put it on him.”

“What?!”

Lu Er covered his face. “I was too busy with him… and forgot about the ring… I’m really…”

Bai Zhi didn’t know what to say for a moment.

Seeing him on the verge of tears, she sighed. “Alright, alright. Just call him and explain it clearly.”

Lu Er leaned his forehead against the car window in frustration, wishing he could turn back time.

The moment he reached his hotel room, he didn’t even change his clothes before eagerly starting a video call with Song Jingmo.

After a few rings, the call connected.

On the screen, Song Jingmo was wearing black silk pajamas, the collar slightly open, revealing his delicate collarbone.

Behind him was his study, shelves filled with medical books, and a desk lamp casting a warm yellow glow.

He was holding a book, glasses resting on his high nose bridge, giving him a restrained yet alluring air.

“Finished work?”

His voice was gentle, a faint smile on his lips, as if he had been waiting for this call.

Looking at that familiar face on the screen, Lu Er’s nose stung, and his eyes instantly reddened.

Song Jingmo immediately sensed something was wrong. He set the book aside and leaned closer to the screen. “What’s wrong? Did something happen? Were you wronged?”

His voice was gentle but urgent, concern filling his eyes behind the glasses.

At that, Lu Er completely broke down.

“Jingmo…”

His voice trembled with tears. “I… I did something wrong…”

“What is it?”

Song Jingmo’s tone tightened. “Take your time. Don’t rush. Was filming not going well? Or did someone bully you?”

“No…”

Lu Er shook his head, tears finally falling. “I… I forgot to give you your birthday present…”

There was a brief silence on the other end.

Song Jingmo clearly hadn’t expected that answer.

After a moment of surprise, he chuckled. “That’s what this is about?”

“It’s important!”

Lu Er sniffed. “I prepared it for so long. I even memorized what I wanted to say. But in the end… I forgot to give it to you…”

The more he spoke, the worse he felt.

Seeing his red, tearful eyes on the screen, Song Jingmo felt both soft-hearted and amused.

He adjusted his posture, making sure his face was clearly visible on camera.

“Er’er,”

His voice was as gentle as if he were coaxing a child, “I’ve already received the best birthday gift.”

“What?”

Lu Er looked up through his teary eyes.

“You.”

Song Jingmo smiled, his gaze tender. “You came all the way back to be with me—that’s the best gift.”

“But…”

Lu Er bit his lip. “I wanted to personally put it on you.”

Song Jingmo didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, but seeing Lu Er’s tearful, pitiful expression, his heart ached.

“You’re crying over this?”

His voice softened, tinged with helpless amusement. “You scared me. I thought something serious had happened.”

He had even started checking flight tickets.

“I just feel it’s a pity…”

Lu Er lowered his head. “It was something really important. I wanted to give you a perfect birthday…”
