Ten minutes later, a delivery man pulled out a rectangular cardboard box.
“Who’s Mr. Leng? Your express purchase—lifting barrier—is here!”
Leng Keyan raised his hand. “Over here!”
Under everyone’s shocked gaze, Leng Keyan took the box and opened it right in front of the security guard.
Inside was a brand-new lifting barrier, complete with all accessories—even the screws.
The guard’s eyes widened in shock and disbelief. “Y-you… you know how to install that?”
“I’ll give it a try.”
Leng Keyan shrugged and crouched down, already starting to unscrew the old barrier.
Yin Siyao froze as he watched Leng Keyan’s practiced movements.
Zhao Jingshu’s eyes widened as well.
More and more people gathered around to watch; some even took out their phones to record.
Completely unfazed, Leng Keyan swiftly dismantled the old barrier, checked the motor interface, and installed the new one.
Wiring, testing—every step flowed smoothly.
In less than an hour, the brand-new lifting barrier was fully installed.
He stood up, dusted off his hands, and pressed the remote.
The barrier rose steadily, then lowered smoothly—operating flawlessly without any stutter.
“Want to try?”
The guard tested it a few times. Everything worked perfectly.
His face flushed red, and after a long pause, he finally forced out a sentence: “Y-your barrier quality isn’t good. It definitely won’t last long!”
“This is a standard model from a mainstream domestic brand. Three-year warranty.”
Leng Keyan took out his phone and opened the product page. “If you don’t believe it, you can scan the QR code to verify.”
The guard was left speechless.
Leng Keyan put his phone away. “The actual repair cost wouldn’t even reach five thousand at most.”
“If something’s broken, compensation is fair—but it should match the real cost, not the eight thousand you casually demanded.”
A few cheers rose from the crowd.
The guard’s expression turned extremely ugly. Staring at Leng Keyan, he sneered, “Riding a little electric scooter, yet you’re so calculating. A poor student is still a poor student—splitting every penny in half to spend.”
The words were harsh.
Even Yin Siyao frowned.
Leng Keyan smiled.
He glanced at a car approaching in the distance, then turned back and said calmly, “Do you know who owns this mall?”
The guard was stunned. “What, trying to bring out the boss to pressure me? Who do you think you are?”
“I’m nobody,” Leng Keyan’s smile deepened slightly. “But what kind of pig from which village are you, to be this inflated?”
At that moment, the black Volkswagen sedan began to slow down.
Beneath the logo was a small line of letters: Phaeton.
The guard’s expression changed instantly, replaced by a fawning smile.
He hurried forward, bending nearly ninety degrees toward the head poking out of the passenger seat. “President Li, I’ll open the gate for you right away!”
Seeing the guard’s sudden change in attitude, Zhao Jingshu trembled with anger.
She couldn’t help shouting, “Why were you so aggressive toward us just now, but now you’re all polite and submissive? They’re both Volkswagens—so this is how you treat people differently?”
The guard whipped around and snapped, “Shut up! This is a Volkswagen with letters on it. The person inside is important—what are you compared to them?”
After Assistant Li got out, he walked to the back seat, opened the door, and bent slightly, waiting for the person inside to step out.
Lu Chen stepped out—tall and upright, dressed in a well-tailored dark gray suit, exuding elegance and nobility.
His gaze passed over the guard and landed on Leng Keyan.
His voice was gentle. “What happened?”
Leng Keyan replied lightly, “Nothing major. A friend of Teacher Yin accidentally broke the barrier, and the guard asked for eight thousand.”
“I thought it was a bit expensive, so I bought a new one and installed it myself. Pretty impressive, right?”
He looked exactly like a little puppy asking for praise.
Assistant Li was stunned—this was the first time he’d seen someone dare to ask President Lu for compliments.
And what followed shocked him even more.
Lu Chen calmly took out a handkerchief from his pocket and gently wiped the sweat from Leng Keyan’s forehead.
Then he flicked his forehead lightly. “I told you to come home for a meal, yet you’re nowhere to be seen.”
“Running around busy all day—couldn’t you call for something this small?”
As he spoke, his gaze swept over the guard, then at Zhao Jingshu with reddened eyes, and Yin Siyao standing nearby with an unreadable expression.
He didn’t ask anything, only said to his assistant behind him, “Raise hiring standards from now on. Anyone with poor service awareness will never be employed in any Lu Group property again.”
Assistant Li nodded respectfully. “Yes, President Lu.”
Just as Assistant Li was wondering who this young man was, Lu Chen completely ignored Yin Siyao’s intense gaze.
He reached out and pinched Leng Keyan’s cheek, still carrying a bit of baby fat.
“This week, you’d better come home for dinner obediently. Otherwise, I’ll have Xiao Er cut off your allowance.”
Yin Siyao’s gaze followed Lu Chen’s hand.
Those hands were clearly well cared for—fair, slender, with defined joints.
But he didn’t like them.
Lu Chen seemed not to notice Yin Siyao’s displeasure and deliberately pinched a bit harder.
He even added a comment, “Soft and milky—nice to the touch.”
