“No, this bun—I bought it on credit!” Ji Yi hurriedly explained.
But no one believed him. “Buns? Even Zhang wouldn’t sell us on credit! How could he sell a bun to you? Does he fancy you or something?”
Old Madam Ji kept poking Ji Yi in the chest, her scolding growing louder and louder, almost like she wanted to jump up and slap him twice.
At that moment, Ji Mei suddenly shouted, “Mother! Quick! Snatch the bun! Second Sister-in-law is trying to hog it all!”
Indeed, Zhu Jie had been holding a bun but hadn’t eaten it yet. Yet hearing their shouting, she immediately stuffed the bun into her mouth.
Seeing this, Old Madam Ji and Ji Mei rushed forward. The two of them pushed Ji Yi aside like madwomen, lunging to grab the meat bun.
But right then, Zhu Jie had just shoved the bun into her mouth. To be honest, it was a big bun, and forcing it in made her choke and feel uncomfortable. Yet even with her face turning bright red, she clenched her mouth tightly and chewed with all her might.
She had thought that once the bun was in her mouth, Ji Mei and the others wouldn’t be able to get it, but unexpectedly, Ji Mei and Old Madam Ji stubbornly pried her mouth open, as if trying to dig the bun out.
Zhu Jie really didn’t understand their psychology. Even if they managed to get it out, could they really eat it again?
Still, she refused to let them have it—not for the bun itself, but for pride. She wouldn’t leave a single crumb for this mother-and-daughter pair. They hadn’t even been willing to give Ji Yi any money, yet treated him like a beast of burden. They were too cruel!
After using so much strength, Ji Mei finally pried Zhu Jie’s mouth open. But the next moment, she sat on the ground crying, “My bun! My big meat bun!”
Zhu Jie, however, laughed, bursting into a delighted, loud laugh. She choked a bit, beating her chest in frustration, clenching her teeth, and patting her chest hard to finally swallow the enormous bun.
She then deliberately opened her mouth wide, showing off in front of Old Madam Ji and Ji Mei, and laughed, “Ah! This bun is really delicious! Haven’t had such a tasty bun in ages!”
Old Madam Ji, hearing this, flew into a rage and slapped Zhu Jie across the face. “Give me back my bun!”
Unfortunately, Zhu Jie easily dodged the slap. Not only did Old Madam Ji miss, she almost stumbled and fell.
“Mother!” Luckily, Ji Mei caught her in time. “The meat bun… it’s gone!”
Old Madam Ji glared furiously at Ji Yi and the others, but didn’t dare hit Zhu Jie again. She muttered angrily, “Fine! So you can buy on credit, huh? You’ve really grown bold! Fine! Since that’s the case, we’ll split the household! You do as you like!”
Her words brought the room to silence. Everyone looked at Old Madam Ji in disbelief, a mix of shock and excitement in their eyes.
“Really?” Elder Brother Ji said, a little smugly. “How do we split it?”
But before he could finish, Old Master Ji replied coldly, “No!”
Elder Brother Ji’s face fell. He looked at Old Madam Ji with anticipation.
“How is it No? Don’t my words count?” Old Madam Ji shouted at Old Master Ji, hands on her hips.
“Fine, we can split it. The house belongs to Yi—we’ll pack up and leave!” Unexpectedly, Old Master Ji stood his ground this time.
But his words were immediately met with protest. “On what basis?”
“Exactly! Are you senile? Why should this house go to Second Yi? This house is mine! He’s the one who should leave!” Old Madam Ji shouted back.
Old Master Ji’s face remained dark. Coldly, he said, “Everyone knows whose house this is.”
“Dad, you can’t be biased! We—we’re the ones—” Ji Mei shouted, pointing sharply at Ji Yi. “He’s the one who should leave! Make him go!”
