A stifling quiet hung over the room. The already dim and shadowed space now seemed even darker and more oppressive.

Doctor Sun’s brows furrowed instinctively, but he quickly shut the door. “Come out!”

At his low command, the candlelight in the room abruptly flared, and in the glow, a figure stood by the window, frowning and gazing into the distance.

“Has the matter been handled?” A man in black stood at the window. The flickering light blurred his features, making it hard to see clearly, but it was evident he was a sturdy, well-built man.

“No!” Doctor Sun sighed with annoyance, placing the medicine box casually on the table.

Hearing this, the man’s reaction was even more intense. Before he could act, he suddenly moved from the window to stand right in front of Doctor Sun. “Why not?”

“She isn’t pregnant,” Doctor Sun replied plainly.

“Not pregnant?” The man seemed slightly stunned. “Even if she’s not pregnant, she can’t stay! How can my master’s marriage be handled so recklessly? If the master finds out, do you think we’ll survive?”

His tone was grave, but Doctor Sun suddenly smiled. With a casual curl of his lips, he met the man’s sharp gaze. Not a trace of fear crossed his face—instead, there was a hint of amusement. “She’s not just not pregnant—she’s still a virgin!”

“Virgin? What do you mean?” The man in black was further confused.

“She’s untouched,” Doctor Sun said seriously.

This left the man in black momentarily speechless. He gaped, astonished. “Untouched? What exactly does the master intend to do?”

Doctor Sun lifted his gaze to the window and quietly looked outside, drawing in a long breath. A meaningful smile touched the corners of his lips and eyes.

“No! Whatever the master thinks, that woman cannot stay!” the man in black said resolutely.

“Where have you been?” Old Madam Ji’s voice rose sharper, almost piercing. She exploded at Ji Yi, “Does it take that long to escort a doctor? Always shirking work—you’re letting your wife spoil you!”

Ji Yi said nothing. Silently, he slipped back into his room. Seeing this, Old Madam Ji fumed, spitting on the floor, “Wife-obsessed fool!”

At the sound of Old Madam Ji’s curses, Zhu Jie finally breathed a quiet sigh of relief. She quickly got out of bed and cautiously approached him, wearing a gentle smile. “It’s cold outside, isn’t it?” she said, sneaking a glance at his expression.

Unfortunately, she couldn’t read a single emotion from his face—a perfectly blank poker face!

“You’re not feeling well? Then go lie down,” Ji Yi said softly, his tone unchanged even knowing she wasn’t pregnant.

“I’m fine!” Zhu Jie replied, brushing the snow off his clothes and taking his cotton jacket.

But the next moment, something was suddenly placed into her hand. Startled, she looked down to find a package wrapped in oiled paper. Warmth radiated through her hand from it.

Her heart stirred slightly. Even before opening it, she had a rough idea of what it was.

Ji Yi turned his head shyly, speaking in a low voice, “I don’t know what you usually eat, so just make do with this for now.”

Zhu Jie gently unwrapped the package, and a rich aroma immediately wafted out. The plump, white buns looked delightful. “Meat buns?”

“Yes.” Ji Yi barely nodded.

Zhu Jie couldn’t help but laugh. Inside the oiled paper were not precious items, just two plump meat buns—still warm to the touch.

She knew that while these buns might mean little to her, to the Ji family they were a rare treat. She remembered Ji Mei drooling over them back then, and even though Old Madam Ji doted on Ji Mei, she hadn’t been able to bring herself to buy one.

And now, he had bought these for her, simply because she wasn’t used to eating sweet potatoes. Her heart warmed like the buns in her hand. She even thought that maybe he had carried them close to his chest—the warmth wasn’t just from the buns, but from the fire of his heart.
