But in the next moment, there was a sudden rustling sound, and a whole bunch of things fell out from his sleeve—pouches, handkerchiefs, and some loose silver coins. At a glance, it was clear that the pouches, some red, some pink, were definitely made by girls.

Princess Lanyi’s expression darkened slightly as she asked, “What is this?”

“Oh, these were some gifts given to me by the young ladies when I went out. I just didn’t have time to put them away!” Ji Yi said, visibly embarrassed. As he spoke, he began picking them up and added, “I’ll make sure to keep Your Highness’s gift together with these things safely!”

“Together with these?” That wouldn’t do at all. Lanyi immediately frowned, “How can my things be kept with such vulgar items? Forget it. I’ll give you a more suitable reward next time!” Saying that, she promptly took back her hairpin, pouting as if sulking at him, and let out a cold huff before turning away with that familiar air of tsundere pride.

Seeing her take it back, Ji Yi let out a relieved breath. It didn’t matter whether she was jealous or upset; as long as she didn’t publicly shove love tokens at him, he was fine!

The Emperor was clearly in a good mood. He suddenly shouted, “Hold a feast! I want to properly reward these two brave warriors.”

Though he said “two brave warriors,” everyone knew he really meant only Ji Yi. Indeed, today Ji Yi had once again bested Yelü Haonan, restoring honor to Daliang. The Emperor was so pleased he almost wanted to issue a general amnesty.

Princess Lanyi immediately piped up in a teasing tone, “Father, I want to go too!”

“You shall! You and Jinghan both go!” the Emperor replied cheerfully, ignoring distinctions of gender.

Lanyi happily linked her arm with the Emperor’s, walking at the front. As she passed by Ji Yi, she deliberately let out a loud, haughty hum at him, as if to declare her indignation.

But just as she walked past, there was a sudden ripping sound, followed immediately by a shriek, “Ah~!”

Lanyi stumbled, almost falling forward and pulling the Emperor slightly off balance. Luckily, a eunuch was nearby and rushed over to steady the Emperor.

Princess Lanyi, however, was not so fortunate. She tripped and fell forward, and—rip!—her skirt had somehow caught on a tree branch, tightly.
