“Master, are you really going?” Doctor Sun anxiously tugged at Ji Yi’s sleeve, his face twisted in worry.
“Yes! Master, forget it! She’s a princess; the Lord won’t approve!” Uncle Ge also pleaded, looking desperate.
Ji Yi’s face turned cold as he said, “You’re the ones who forced her away. If we can’t bring her back, then none of us will leave!”
“Don’t be like that, Master! We don’t have time to waste. The Lord will notice soon, and then our lives will be over!” Manager Liao warned.
“If we don’t go, your lives are over right now!” Ji Yi said darkly.
Life really isn’t easy, huh? Manager Liao cried out, “We’re doomed! If the Master brings a princess back, the Lord will surely kill us!”
“Fine. Then I’ll let you die properly!” Ji Yi drew a knife from his waist.
Seeing this, Manager Liao quickly stammered, “O-okay, Master! I want to die slowly!”
At that moment, Doctor Sun whispered, “Princess Lanxin’s carriage is here! Quick, look!”
The next moment, Ji Yi returned the knife to Manager Liao’s waist and dashed out, moving with the fluid precision of a trained warrior. He leapt right in front of Princess Lanxin’s carriage.
Manager Liao and the others looked at each other.
“Are we going?”
“Can we not?”
“Let’s go!” they shouted, and they ran after him.
“You shameless brat, daring to freeload! I’ll beat you to death!”
“Kick him! Hard!” Manager Liao yelled.
They all kicked wildly—but missed every time. Meanwhile, Ji Yi writhed on the ground, wailing, “Help! Somebody help me!”
Then a sharp voice rang out, “Stop!”
A maid stepped forward, her tone icy. “Audacious rogue! How dare you block the princess’s carriage?”
Manager Liao and the others were stunned. “Huh? Princess? This is the princess’s carriage?”
They immediately fell to the ground in exaggerated prostration, frantically kowtowing. “Please spare us, Princess! We didn’t know!”
The carriage curtain slowly opened, revealing a figure as pale and flawless as white jade. Softly, she said, “Xiang Lian, what’s happened here?”
The moment she appeared, Ji Yi—still rolling on the ground—froze in place. Weakly, he moaned, “I haven’t eaten in three days. I’m really just hungry! I didn’t mean to freeload! Please, have mercy!” And he clutched the young maid’s thigh.
The maid called Xiang Lian scowled, ready to kick him, but when she looked up at him pitifully, she froze. This man… he’s handsome! And incredibly masculine. Even hugging a leg, he radiates masculinity!
At that moment, the whole world seemed to stop, and only her heart raced wildly.
Princess Lanxin sighed softly from the carriage. “Ah… there really are many unfortunate people.”
Then, turning coldly to Manager Liao and the others, she said, “All for a meal? Was it necessary to beat him like this? How much does he owe you?”
Manager Liao looked up, glum. “Five taels.”
“Five taels, and you beat him?” Princess Lanxin exclaimed in indignation.
But glancing at their faces, she suppressed her anger. Small businesses are tough these days… Look at them: the waiters, the teapot boy, even the manager—they’re all over forty! How hard life must be.
Her tone softened. “Fine. I’ll pay. Release him.”
“Princess, you’re merciful! Truly a bodhisattva in human form!” Manager Liao and the others fawned.
Princess Lanxin smiled and waved her hand. Just as the carriage was about to move again, Xiang Lian shouted, “Princess! He’s fainted!”
Indeed, Ji Yi had collapsed—clutching Xiang Lian’s thigh at the perfect dramatic moment.
