“Not a single hit landed!” Magistrate Xu wailed shamelessly. “Your Highness is blessed by heaven! Us mere mortals couldn’t even touch you!”
But Zhu Jie let out a cold laugh. “How come I remember at least three hits?” Indeed, the two constables had each swung once, and Hao the constable had hit once more. None had landed, but it still counted as three swings.
Magistrate Xu’s eyes immediately welled up, but Zhu Jie said coldly, “Then let’s take care of you as well. Zhao Xuguang, did you hear what I just said?”
“Yes, Your Highness!” The commander raised his hand and said, “Three hundred strikes, not a single one less!”
Wait… were they speaking in reverse? “Take care” meant hitting even harder? Magistrate Xu fainted on the spot, but the imperial guards didn’t care. They grabbed the constables’ clubs and struck down with full force. Only two swings, and Magistrate Xu let out a piercing scream… and suddenly woke up!
Of course, he had been faking unconsciousness! He just didn’t expect these people to be so ruthless—even hitting someone already out cold.
The entire magistrate’s office was filled with wails, more terrifying than any hell. A true expert could be recognized immediately by their strikes. The constables saw that these imperial guards were no joke—each swing struck flesh, each time reaching bone! Magistrate Xu repeatedly fainted from the pain, only to be beaten awake again and again.
Meanwhile, Hao the constable had already gone silent. His face was pale, teeth clenched, body trembling. Every strike of the blade sent rivers of blood, each one causing him to shiver violently, yet he did not pass out. This kind of torment was beyond what an ordinary person could endure!
No wonder Confucius said, “Women and petty people are hard to manage,” and the ancients also warned, “Better to offend a petty man than a woman.” When a woman decides to be ruthless, she can be more vicious than any villain!
“Ouch… I really can’t bear to watch,” Zhu Jie said with an unexpected sigh. “Let’s go rescue him.”
Magistrate Xu and Hao the constable both let out a long sigh of relief. But Zhu Jie quietly added, “You can continue.”
Pft! Who just spit blood? Oh, both of them did—so perfectly synchronized! Zhu Jie let out a cold smile, then turned away without looking at them, hurrying toward the cells as if she could not bear to watch.
A person must have authority. Zhu Jie walked down the corridor with an air so commanding it seemed stronger than walking sideways. The constables immediately retreated—nobody wanted to cross this plague of a woman. Even brushing against a strand of her hair might warrant a beating!
Crack! The prison door finally opened. Looking into the damp cells, Zhu Jie’s eyes filled with tears. Inside, Ji Yi sat with his back turned—so lonely, so helpless. Zhu Jie could no longer hold back and rushed forward, throwing herself into his arms.
“Huh? You’re here?” Ji Yi slowly opened his eyes, astonished to see Zhu Jie, tears streaming down her face.
Zhu Jie studied him closely, her gaze moving up and down. “You’ve been wronged. How are your injuries? Did they hit you again?”
“They did… badly,” Ji Yi sighed. Rolling up his sleeve, he pitifully showed her. “Look… there will probably be scars. You won’t despise me, will you?”
“No, of course not!” Zhu Jie cried even harder. She looked down for a moment and froze—tears hung at the corners of her eyes but didn’t fall for a long while.
“Does it look scary?” Ji Yi asked softly, seeing her suddenly still. She looked delicate, both wronged and frightened.
But in the next moment, Zhu Jie suddenly lifted her head, face full of indignation, and leapt into his arms. Was she frightened by the awful wounds—or was her heart aching?
Then rip! Zhu Jie immediately went to work… and started pulling at his clothes! Ji Yi froze, feeling a sudden cold draft on his chest. This—so openly? And people were watching…
