“Why did we suddenly stop?” After what felt like a long wait, Ji Yi finally calmed himself down, lifted the curtain, and stepped out of the carriage.
“It looks like there’s been a landslide up ahead. Rocks are blocking the road—our carriage almost overturned!” Uncle Ge said as seriously as he could, but his little eyes were full of curiosity and teasing, constantly darting around as he sized Ji Yi up.
Ji Yi pretended not to notice. Instead, he stood even straighter, looking dignified, and deliberately lowered his voice. “Then what do we do? Can the carriage still pass?”
“Definitely not!” Uncle Ge replied seriously. But as soon as he finished, he suddenly suggested, “How about we head back for now? Come again in a couple of days? I can also have someone clear the road.”
The suggestion sounded reasonable—but where exactly was he staring? What did he mean by that? Was he trying to give Ji Yi more time to enjoy newlywed life before coming again?
Ji Yi’s lips twitched awkwardly. “How much longer until we arrive?” Zhu Jie suddenly asked.
“Just over that hill,” Uncle Ge answered, still sounding serious—though he didn’t dare look at Zhu Jie’s face, as if afraid he’d burst out laughing.
“Can we walk there? Isn’t someone waiting for us ahead?” Zhu Jie asked hesitantly.
“We can get there… but…” Uncle Ge seemed uncertain.
“Then we’ll walk!” Zhu Jie said decisively.
“Seriously? It’s actually quite far over that hill!” Uncle Ge tried to persuade her. “And the road isn’t easy!”
“It’s fine!” Zhu Jie replied crisply. Clearly, she wanted to leave Da Liang as soon as possible.
“Then let’s go,” Ji Yi sighed.
Hearing this, Uncle Ge couldn’t help but glance at Ji Yi again, as if checking whether he felt disappointed. Unfortunately, Ji Yi quickly avoided his gaze. What a killjoy—not even letting me enjoy the show! Uncle Ge sighed inwardly.
Perhaps because of the landslide, the road was covered in broken stones. Not only that—even the forest had patches of fallen trees.
“Was there an earthquake?” Zhu Jie asked in surprise. “Why didn’t we feel anything back home?”
“Maybe we should go back?” Uncle Ge suggested again.
“Move them aside and keep going!” Zhu Jie declared once more. As she spoke, she actually stepped forward, ready to start moving the trees herself.
Even Ji Yi was surprised this time. Is Qi State really that tempting? Not afraid of hardship—and even taking matters into her own hands!
With a grunt, Zhu Jie actually managed to lift a small branch. Of course, even that was no small feat for a girl.
Ji Yi swallowed and said weakly, “If anything happens in the future, you can pat your chest proudly and say—you’re a real man.”
“Pat my chest?” Was that a summary of how it felt just now? Zhu Jie immediately widened her eyes, hands on her hips, and said indignantly, “What are you saying? I just haven’t developed yet—it’s not like I don’t have anything, okay!” As she spoke, she deliberately puffed out her chest.
Uncle Ge’s jaw nearly dropped at her bold gesture. That’s way too unrestrained!
Ji Yi said awkwardly, “That’s not what I meant!”
Then he silently walked over, pulled Zhu Jie behind him, and said, “Let me do it.”
Hearing this, Uncle Ge hurried over as well. Each of them took one tree and directly lifted the ones blocking the road!
Wait—those weren’t small trees! Each was at least three or four meters tall. And they each lifted one on their own?
Zhu Jie couldn’t help swallowing. “Did a meteorite ever fall in Xiangshui Village?”
Ji Yi was carrying a tree when he heard her completely off-topic question. He turned back and said, “No?”
“Then how are you all so strong? What are you—Super Saiyans?” Zhu Jie’s eyes were practically popping out. Sure, she had just lifted a small branch, but that alone had been exhausting—her arms nearly gave out. Yet now, these two casually lifted huge trees like it was nothing. It was unbelievable!
Ji Yi froze at her question and let out an awkward laugh. He quickly shot Uncle Ge a look and said, “That tree of yours must be hollow, right? Mine seems to have been eaten through by insects!”
