With a whoosh, Zhu Laotai felt a shiver run through her scalp, as if a cold wind was circling down from above. Was she about to be split in half?

Just as Ji Yi’s knife was about to fall, there was a muffled puff sound, and a tiny spark of fire suddenly lit up—Zhu Jie had ignited the firefold!

A flash of silver streaked by, and Zhu Laotai, shocked, immediately turned her head—huh? No one was behind her?

Zhu Laotai almost searched the entire room—there really was no one. “Maybe I’m just being paranoid,” she hesitated, “but why did the candle go out just now?”

“Maybe the table broke and the candleholder fell!” Zhu Jie explained with a laugh.

Really? The table broke? Zhu Laotai took a closer look. Sure enough, there was a big hole in the middle of the table. What on earth happened here?

“The stuff in this inn is really old and broken!” Zhu Jie muttered. “Good thing the soup didn’t spill!”

Hearing this, Zhu Laotai finally remembered what was important. She quickly craned her neck. “Huh? Where’s your soup?”

“I drank it!” Zhu Jie said calmly. “Mom, you stuffed me so full earlier!”

She drank it earlier? Zhu Laotai frowned in doubt. Yes, she had poured it in, but when the crucial moment came, there was no sign of effect. She wasn’t sure if it had actually gone down.

Zhu Jie yawned widely. “Mom, I suddenly feel so sleepy!”

“Sleepy? That’s good!” Zhu Laotai got excited immediately. Looks like she really drank it. She eagerly looked at Zhu Jie, who seemed fine, no signs of fainting or collapse—had the medicine not fully taken effect yet?

“Mom, your soup isn’t finished yet!” Zhu Jie yawned again. “Drink it, then let’s go to bed!”

Zhu Laotai slowly looked up. Seeing her mischievous smile made her feel uneasy, a strange chill creeping up inside.

“Your sister is busy. She’ll be back soon!” Zhu Laotai replied perfunctorily. Yet, for some reason, her eyelids felt heavy, her mind hazy. What was happening?

Zhu Jie whispered softly, smiling at her: “I’ll take you to find your sister. How about it?”

“Okay!” Somehow, Zhu Laotai blurted this out. Her heart raced—what was happening to her?

In the next moment, she realized her body was moving on its own, following Zhu Jie’s steps as if she were no longer in control.

“Where are you taking her?” At that moment, a man leapt down—it was none other than Ji Yi.

“Just going for a little fun!” Zhu Jie said mischievously. “This love-dazing potion is really interesting. I’ve been curious all along, hehe!” Her laugh carried both playfulness and a spine-chilling eeriness.

Zhu Laotai heard it all and shivered. Did Zhu Jie actually make her drink the potion?
