“Yi! You absolutely must save your sister!” Old Madam Ji clutched Ji Yi’s hand tightly, her voice full of desperate pleading.

Ji Yi merely sighed and said softly, “Mother, lie down first. Let the doctor check your injuries.”

“My old bones don’t matter, but Meizi is still young! You can’t leave her to this!” Old Madam Ji persisted, refusing to relent.

Zhu Jie rolled her eyes in disdain. When you were running away earlier, why didn’t you speak up then? Why didn’t you say you wouldn’t leave and have Ji Mei go first? And now you’re here making things difficult for Ji Yi.

“Don’t worry, Mother. I will definitely save Meizi!” Ji Yi quickly reassured her.

But Old Madam Ji still wouldn’t let go, wailing, “Meizi can’t go into the government office! She’s going to get married! If she goes in there, how will she ever get married?”

Hearing this, Old Master Ji also sighed repeatedly from behind. “So foolish… so very foolish!”

Ji Yi, however, had already looked up at Doctor Sun beside him. “How is my mother?”

“Nothing serious, just some bruises and scrapes,” Doctor Sun said calmly. “I’ll prescribe some ointment for you to apply, and she’ll be fine.”

“Just bruises and scrapes after all that beating?” Ji Laoda immediately complained.

Indeed, Old Madam Ji’s body was covered in dark bruises and purples, looking like a patched-up calico cat, lying there wailing. Yet in reality, it was just skin-deep injuries. Princess Pingning was merely toying with her—like a cat playing with a mouse—she hadn’t even really hurt her yet!

Ji Yi and Doctor Sun ignored him. Ji Yi sighed and said, “I’ll take you outside.”

Doctor Sun didn’t argue, leaving behind the ointment, and silently followed Ji Yi out. They went all the way to a secluded spot when Ji Yi suddenly stopped.

“Go notify them. Tell them I want to see them,” Ji Yi said abruptly.

Doctor Sun hesitated. “What does sir intend to do?”

“People still need to be saved. Whether they pressure things using our influence or some silver, Ji Mei cannot be truly convicted!” Ji Yi’s mind was full of legal concerns, his brows furrowed tightly.

Hearing this, Doctor Sun remained still for a long moment, then frowned seriously. “It’s probably not possible. The Lord’s checkpoint is tough. Those forces are here partly to protect you and partly because of their own mission. The Lord won’t risk exposing them just for a woman. Doing so might also expose your movements.”

“I’ll handle that checkpoint myself, but Ji Mei must be saved!” Ji Yi said firmly. “She’s still my sister!”

Doctor Sun sighed at Ji Yi’s determination, then hesitated before saying, “Actually, we don’t necessarily have to involve them. I can try it myself.”

“How so?” Ji Yi’s eyes lit up immediately.

“I have some personal connection with Old Master Sun. It’s been years, but maybe he’ll still grant me some face,” Doctor Sun said hesitantly.

Ji Yi immediately relaxed and exhaled. “I trust you to handle it. If you say it’s possible, then it will be done.”

“Old Master Sun’s part is easy. But I’m unsure if Princess Pingning will listen to him,” Doctor Sun added cautiously.

“Let him speak. Meizi will not marry into the Sun family—they’re not interested in her anyway!” Ji Yi said firmly.

He had spotted the crux of the issue. Doctor Sun seemed to be waiting for him to say exactly that. He exhaled deeply. “Good, I’ll go try then.”

While Ji Yi worked behind the scenes to save Ji Mei, the rest of the Ji family remained completely unaware. Instead, they were engulfed in gloom, each of them looking like they were about to cry their eyes out—a situation that complicated things for Zhu Jie.

Because Old Madam Ji couldn’t find Ji Yi, she could only grab Zhu Jie and start pleading.

“Second daughter-in-law, can’t you save your sister? Even if there were past disagreements, that was behind closed doors. But you can’t just abandon your sister now!” Old Madam Ji cried, tears running and nose sniffling.
