“Ugh, how long is this going to keep going outside?” Old Madam Sun leaned half-reclined on the bed, supporting her head. Her head was wrapped in bandages, and she looked utterly ill.

Old Master Sun was curled up in his chair, puffing on his dry tobacco pipe, pretending not to hear anything.

But there was no way he didn’t hear it—the commotion outside was enough to tear down a house. Boom after boom, the racket wouldn’t stop. Were they trying to reduce his home to a bare shell?

“Mother, Father!” Madam Sun came in, her face full of worry. “Aren’t you going to do something about that shrew? She’s about to smash the whole house clean.”

“Smash it, then fix it!” Old Master Sun actually spat out this line calmly.

Old Madam Sun immediately felt a wave of grief. “What kind of karma have we brought upon ourselves, that we end up marrying back such a… creature?”

“Isn’t she the one you all picked?” Old Master Sun muttered gloomily.

Old Madam Sun’s face immediately darkened. “Wasn’t that for the sake of you men? For Shaoyan to have a good future?”

“If you’ve already chosen a good future, you shouldn’t be second-guessing everything. Haven’t I told you before that sneaky tricks won’t work? And yet you still come back trying to arrange a second wife for Shaoyan!” Old Master Sun muttered again.

Madam Sun’s face fell, and she lowered her head. But Old Madam Sun, enraged, shouted, “What’s wrong with arranging a second wife for Shaoyan? Are we supposed to just sit and watch the Sun family line die out? How dare you say that! If it came to that, how could you face the ancestors of the Sun family? We wouldn’t have the face to!”

“No face, so just don’t go see them? Is that up to you?” Old Master Sun grumbled.

Old Madam Sun was left speechless, glaring at him with fury. “At this rate, I’ll just go see them myself. Fine! If they ask, I’ll tell them to take it up with you!”

Old Master Sun choked on his pipe smoke—he almost actually coughed himself to death. Was she trying to take him down with her too?

At that moment, the door creaked open. A poised figure appeared gracefully, followed by a young maid.

“Greetings, Grandfather, Grandmother, Mother!” she said, bowing slightly with proper respect.

Old Madam Sun immediately turned her head away, pretending not to see, as if to shield herself from the sight.

Madam Sun looked embarrassed and just stood silently beside her, head bowed, pretending not to hear.

Only Old Master Sun cleared his throat heavily, sighed, and said, “Come on, stand up.”

Seeing their cold demeanor, the Princess Pingning County still smiled. “I heard Grandmother hasn’t been feeling well, so Zi’er had the servants prepare some calming tea especially for you.” She gestured lightly backward, and the maid behind her respectfully knelt, holding the tea tray high.

Unfortunately, Old Madam Sun, hearing this, still stubbornly refused to look at them, moaning as if gravely ill.

Seeing her own maid forced to kneel, the princess knew the punishment wasn’t for the maid—it was for her.

Yet she didn’t scold or get upset, didn’t even act like she noticed. Instead, she smiled and gracefully sat on the bed, taking on the posture of a dutiful granddaughter. Gently, she stroked Old Madam Sun’s hand and said softly, “Zi’er knows what weighs on Grandmother’s mind. How could Zi’er allow Grandmother to be unhappy?”

Old Madam Sun snorted coldly. The smashing outside hadn’t even stopped yet, and here she was speaking so sweetly. Did she take everyone for fools? Could she really be pacified by just a few words?

“To be honest,” the princess said, “I came here this time also to find a second wife for my husband.” She even gave Madam Sun a radiant smile as she said it.

Her smile left Madam Sun completely dumbfounded. Not because the smile was particularly beautiful, but because what she said was so strange. She wants to arrange a second wife for Shaoyan? Impossible! Did the sun just rise in the west?

Old Madam Sun also found it utterly unbelievable. Could she really be dreaming? She could no longer restrain herself and turned back, staring at the Princess in utter surprise.
