“I knew your family doesn’t eat this often, Sister, so I specially prepared it for you. Hurry and try it!” Sun Shaohui said as she forcefully pushed the bowl of premium black sesame paste into Zhu Jie’s hands.
Such a high-end thing—Zhu Jie truly didn’t dare accept it! If she took it, should she drink it or not?
Half pushing it back with her hand, Zhu Jie deliberately put on a silly grin and said, “Sister, how could I dare enjoy something this good all by myself? How about we drink it together?” As she spoke, she nudged the bowl back toward Sun Shaohui.
“Don’t!” Sun Shaohui immediately grew agitated, but as soon as the word came out, she hurriedly corrected herself. “Actually, Sister, please don’t be offended, but my family eats this often. This bowl was specially prepared for you!” As she spoke, she pushed the bowl back toward Zhu Jie again.
“Your family really has… unique tastes,” Zhu Jie muttered sarcastically under her breath. But no matter what, she did not want to take that bowl. Being pushed again and again, her whole body leaned backward, and she was almost about to fall over.
Sun Shaohui heard her mutter something softly, but since she was a bit far away she couldn’t hear clearly, so she asked, “What did you say, Sister?”
“I…” Zhu Jie gave an awkward smile, yet she didn’t want to offend her just like that. A small setback didn’t mean complete failure. She still wanted to win over this rich beauty. Her eyes rolled, and suddenly she exclaimed with delight, “Oh right! My brother—my brother hasn’t had this in a long time either!” She immediately looked at Ji Yi with a sheepish grin.
Sharing good things with everyone? Ji Yi’s eyes widened instantly. He didn’t want it! The smell of croton seeds could be detected from three li away, okay? Could he say that even the pigs in their village no longer ate this stuff?
But before Ji Yi could refuse, Zhu Jie smoothly pushed the bowl in front of him.
“Brother, you drink first!”
Ji Yi looked at it and thought, No way… Is this the ‘better a fellow suffer than me’ situation? He glared at Zhu Jie resentfully. Seriously? You’re that disloyal?
“You drink, Sister,” Ji Yi said, not even taking the bowl, directly pushing it back to Zhu Jie.
What? Could he smell the croton seeds too? Zhu Jie was stunned. Ji Yi wouldn’t drink it either? But there was indeed quite a lot mixed into that bowl, so it wasn’t strange that he could smell it.
“Brother should drink! With Brother here, how could your younger sister dare go first?” Zhu Jie said ingratiatingly.
“Respect the elderly and care for the young. Whenever our family has something good, don’t we always let our little sister have it first? You should drink it,” Ji Yi said plainly, his face full of refusal.
“Brother drink!”
“Sister drink!”
Watching the two of them pushing it back and forth, Sun Shaohui saw that half the bowl of black sesame paste had already splashed out. If this continued, the whole thing might spill!
She suddenly felt a bit regretful. If she had known Ji Yi would come, she would have prepared two bowls—then everyone would have their share.
“You two don’t need to argue. I’ll just have the servants prepare another bowl in a moment,” Sun Shaohui said sincerely. Something this good really wasn’t meant to be enjoyed alone.
You’ve got to be kidding! Zhu Jie had been secretly delighted watching the croton-laced sesame paste in her hand nearly spill out, but she never expected Sun Shaohui to order another bowl. Would it still have the same recipe?
Just as Sun Shaohui turned her head to instruct the maid, Zhu Jie suddenly screamed, “Wait!”
Sun Shaohui immediately looked at her warily and asked in surprise, “What is it, Sister?”
Zhu Jie was anxious inside, but she couldn’t openly refuse. She was so flustered she nearly started sweating, her eyes darting everywhere. Could someone please save her?
Suddenly she shouted, “Ah! How could I forget! My brother has something he wants to say to Sister, but he hasn’t said it yet!” As she spoke, she immediately looked at Ji Yi for help and lowered her voice. “Right, Brother?”
Why are you throwing dirty water on me again? Ji Yi immediately put on a simple, foolish expression. This time he clamped his mouth shut and shook his head frantically.
“Say something, Brother!” Zhu Jie almost ground her teeth as she spoke, pushing the bowl of black sesame paste toward him again.
Hearing this, Sun Shaohui turned to look at Ji Yi in confusion. But that fool just kept shaking his head, clearly unable to say a word. “It seems your brother has nothing to say,” she teased.
“No, no! My brother is just shy—yes, very shy!” Zhu Jie quickly explained, winking desperately at Ji Yi, meaning At least say something!
