“The fortune teller said that my Meizi is the one truly blessed!” Old Madam Ji immediately shouted, “Even more blessed than Xue’er!”
Zhu Jie couldn’t help but smile secretly at their words. Did this fortune-telling guy really have only one line for everyone? You can’t just go around saying the same thing to everyone in the village! Didn’t he have a few more lines prepared? Surely not everyone is ‘truly blessed,’ right?
The two sides were stuck in a deadlock, each refusing to yield. Just then, Hua Feixue suddenly rose, letting out a cold snort. “Ridiculous… ridiculous!” She floated away lightly.
As someone who loved watching drama unfold, Zhu Jie’s jaw dropped. While she did think it was funny that Old Madam Ji and Old Madam Hua were quarreling like this, Hua Feixue’s aloof, supercilious attitude was something else entirely—it was impressively unique.
The disdain in Hua Feixue’s eyes was palpable, as if she had no business existing in this space, in this family. Watching these people fight over trivial matters, her solitary pride seemed almost comically lofty.
“Who did she call ridiculous?” Old Madam Ji muttered, still unable to process it.
“You!” Old Madam Hua immediately snapped.
“No, you’re ridiculous!” Old Madam Ji retorted in kind. “Brother, you should say something! Shouldn’t your Xue’er step back?”
Hearing her bizarre question, Zhu Jie couldn’t help but laugh. Why should anyone have to step back? On what grounds?
Old Madam Hua, however, bristled with alertness, waiting for Hua Laotian to speak. “Don’t say anything inappropriate! We cannot give in!”
Hua Laotian looked troubled, glancing at his wife and then at his sister. He sighed, shook his head, and said nothing—simply turned and walked away. Was this him forfeiting?
Seeing this, Old Madam Hua scowled. “Useless! Doesn’t even dare to say a word!”
But Hua Feiwu wasn’t like his father. He immediately raised his fist, shouting aggressively, “I’m telling you, anyone who dares go against my Xue’er, I’ll beat them flat!”
Unexpectedly, Ji Mei straightened her back and said firmly, “Cut that out. Do you still think we’re kids you can hit and scold at will? Our Erhan Ge isn’t the same anymore—he can crush you with just one finger. Believe it or not?”
Zhu Jie was surprised by Ji Mei’s boldness. She was relying on Ji Yi’s backing? But looking at Ji Yi, who kept his head down eating quietly, he seemed completely uninterested in getting involved.
Hearing this, Hua Laoda laughed proudly. “Crush me with one finger? Hahaha, I don’t believe it. A defeated underling dares to challenge me? Want to bet I’ll beat him until he cries for his mother?”
Seeing his confidence, Zhu Jie realized he probably wasn’t bluffing. Perhaps it really had happened before. No wonder he was called ‘Useless.’ Ji Yi was sly in his own quiet way.
Ji Mei immediately egged Ji Yi on, “Brother, hit him! Show him how powerful you are!”
But Ji Yi looked at her blankly, completely clueless.
Seeing her brother like that, Ji Mei almost cried. Did Ji Yi leave his brain at home today?
Hua Feiwu laughed triumphantly. “Scared, aren’t you? Scared? Then get lost!”
Just then, Ji Laoda wiped his mouth, full and satisfied, and stood up. “Mother, no need to waste words with them. As relatives, we’ve already warned them. If they want to humiliate themselves, we don’t need to interfere further.”
Pfft. Mother and son, indeed! Their thinking was perfectly in sync. What exactly did they come here for? To stir up a fight?
“Ungrateful!” Old Madam Ji even threw that remark over her shoulder as they left, turning the Hua family’s faces green with anger.
But just as Ji Yi was about to get into the carriage and leave, Old Madam Ji came over and instructed, “Xue’er is your student after all. Since you’ve been so bookish, you probably have something to say. Go talk to her, see what she really wants. Does she actually want to marry into their family?”
Zhu Jie’s jaw literally hit the floor. ‘So bookish she’s full of advice’? Old Madam Ji really knew how to phrase things!
