At the very next moment, a belated cry burst out, loud and sharp. Miss Sun was twisting her head, running straight out of the temple while crying!
“Miss Sun!” Zhu Jie cried out. She couldn’t let her run off like this! If she did, Ji Yi would have no chance at all!
She immediately gave chase. She needed to explain herself—she had to calm Miss Sun down!
“Miss Sun, don’t run!” Zhu Jie stretched out her arm as far as she could and ran after her, yelling!
When they reached the temple gate, Zhu Jie suddenly felt her arm being grabbed. She turned around and saw Ji Yi trying to hold her back—wasn’t this ruining her grand plan?
She immediately jerked her arm free, straining forward, and threw Ji Yi’s hand off.
But to her surprise… Miss Sun had vanished in the time it took to turn around!
“Miss Sun! Miss Sun, where are you?” Zhu Jie ran a few steps forward, but outside the temple she couldn’t see her. Could Miss Sun really have martial arts skills? Had she vanished into thin air?
“There!” came Ji Yi’s barely audible reply from behind.
Where? Zhu Jie pressed her hand to her forehead, craning her neck as she searched. “I don’t see her! I really don’t see her!”
Following closely behind, the young master Sun and the maid also looked around in confusion. Miss Sun—how could she disappear into thin air?
At that moment, Ji Yi said again, softly and deliberately: “At your feet.”
Huh? At whose feet? Zhu Jie lightly stomped her foot, and… huh? The ground beneath her was soft. “Ah—ah!” Not only soft, but it squeaked! With every stomp, a tiny scream echoed from beneath her feet.
Something’s wrong! Zhu Jie’s eyes widened, and she looked down.
“No way! Miss Sun, how are you… here?”
Miss Sun’s faint, helpless murmuring came from below: “Can you get up first?” Her voice was filled with resignation—utter surrender.
Zhu Jie immediately bounced up, leaping three zhang forward. Yes—our poor Miss Sun was right under Zhu Jie’s feet.
The maid and young master Sun, realizing this a bit late, shouted in alarm: “Miss!” “Sister!” They dragged Miss Sun up as if she were a dead weight.
“Miss, how did you fall?” the maid asked, distressed.
Hearing this, Miss Sun sobbed so hard she could barely breathe. “I was just walking to the threshold when… I don’t know who pushed me deliberately…”
“Someone pushed you?” the maid cried indignantly.
But Miss Sun, gasping for air, continued: “I tripped over the threshold!”
Pfft! Everyone almost choked! That was one big gasp!
Anyone who’s been to a temple knows the thresholds are built high. Running fast, it’s easy to trip. This was why Zhu Jie and young master Sun hadn’t seen Miss Sun earlier—the threshold hid her small body completely.
“If no one had pushed you, you wouldn’t have tripped!” the maid indignantly added, her glare immediately shooting at Zhu Jie, practically spewing fire from her eyes!
Why are you looking at me? Zhu Jie felt a little wronged in her heart. She looked around frantically. “Who! Who pushed Miss Sun, step forward! I promise I won’t kill you!” she called out, full of righteous indignation.
Unexpectedly, she turned and met Ji Yi’s unwavering gaze. His hand subtly pointed at her, silently mouthing: “You!”
Me? Zhu Jie’s mouth dropped open wide enough to fit a duck egg. She realized—could it be that when she had struggled free from Ji Yi, she had accidentally swung her arm and hit Miss Sun?
Yes! That might really be it! Zhu Jie felt her vision blacken.
“This is too much! Too much!” she immediately turned her head away, still managing to put on an angry front. “Don’t let me catch her, or you’ll see how I deal with her!” She even clenched her tiny fists, looking ready to take on whoever had knocked down Miss Sun, all righteous fury and teeth gritted.
Seeing her like this, it only left Miss Sun and the others confused. What was going on? Wasn’t it Zhu Jie who had pushed Miss Sun?
