After the banquet, Li Qingling returned to her room and collapsed into a chair, unwilling to move.
From now on, she was determined not to hold any more birthday banquets. They were too exhausting. A simple gathering with family would be so much better—no fuss, no thinking required.
“Madam, the two Nannies have already made all the arrangements,” Xichun said as she walked in, glancing at Li Qingling with concern. “Do you want to take a bath?” A hot bath would relax her bones and make her more comfortable.
Li Qingling nodded.
She wanted to bathe early and rest early. She hadn’t forgotten that she was pregnant and needed plenty of sleep.
Xichun acknowledged this and went downstairs to have hot water brought up.
By the time Li Qingling finished her bath and climbed into bed to sleep, Liu Zhimou returned, reeking of alcohol.
She opened her eyes slightly, glanced at him, and asked, “Why are you back so late?”
Liu Zhimou, not wanting to overwhelm her with the smell, kept his distance. “I had to instruct County Magistrate Ma on a few matters. You sleep first; I’ll go take a bath.” With that, he turned and headed quickly toward the bathroom.
By the time he came out, she was already asleep.
He quietly climbed into bed, pulled her into his arms, kissed her forehead, and finally closed his eyes to sleep.
Since the arrival of the two Nannies, Li Qingling had been strictly watched. She couldn’t eat this or do that, and it nearly drove her crazy.
Although she knew the two Nannies cared about her, their strictness was difficult to accept.
She had always been a person who loved freedom. Being managed so tightly made her uncomfortable.
After enduring for several days, she could no longer bear it. She sighed and called the two Nannies over, honestly expressing her thoughts.
If she continued to endure, she might develop depression. It was better to be open with them early, to ask them not to be so strict.
Nanny Yao and Nanny Jin exchanged a glance. They had experienced the atmosphere in the household over the past few days and realized that the strict approach they used in the Liu household didn’t suit this home—it needed to change.
“I will follow Madam’s wishes,” Nanny Yao spoke first.
Nanny Jin also agreed to abide by Li Qingling’s preferences.
Li Qingling looked at them and said, “It’s not that I don’t want you to manage things, but I hope that when you do, you can discuss it with me first, okay?” She didn’t like them dictating her life, nor did she like them being blindly obedient.
What she wanted was for them to communicate and reach agreements.
The two Nannies had only been here a few days and were still in the adjustment period, but she hoped they could adapt.
“Very well, we will follow Madam’s wishes,” they said happily, feeling respected.
Hearing this, Li Qingling smiled. “Thank you both for your efforts.” If they could cooperate well, they would become her invaluable assistants.
The two Nannies waved their hands, insisting it wasn’t hard work.
After honestly expressing herself, Li Qingling’s mood improved, and she even had an appetite for breakfast.
At that moment, Nian Xia came to tell her something amusing.
“Ah Huang carried Diandian away and threw it out. Then it came back, regretted it, and rushed to bring Diandian back. Luckily, Diandian is fine, or Ah Bai would have hated it to death.”
They never expected Ah Huang to do something so reckless, to actually throw Diandian away.
Li Qingling wiped her mouth, stood up, and said she wanted to check on Diandian. She wondered if the little one had been frightened.
After a few steps, she looked back at the two Nannies. “Have you ever seen the two big tigers in the house?” She had forgotten to ask.
The two Nannies shook their heads. They had heard from Xichun about the two tigers but had never seen them. They thought their masters were brave indeed, daring to raise tigers.
“Do you want to come see them? Don’t worry, they won’t bite. We raised them ourselves. If you don’t harm them, there’s no danger.”
The two Nannies exchanged another glance and nodded, agreeing to go see them.
Better to see them early and get used to them.
Li Qingling smiled and led them to the backyard.
As soon as they arrived, they saw Ah Huang pacing by the door, lowering his head.
It seemed he had been scolded by Ah Bai.
Rightly so—who told him to throw Diandian?
“Ah Huang…” Li Qingling called, and Ah Huang ran over to her.
The two Nannies froze in fear at the sight of such massive tigers.
Good heavens, so scary!
Would they be eaten?
Li Qingling rubbed Ah Huang’s head and frowned. “Why did you carry Diandian away and throw it?”
Here comes another scolding…
Ah Huang lowered his head, whining, “The little one bit Ah Bai while nursing. I felt sorry for Ah Bai and, in a moment of impulse, carried it away. I regret it now; I shouldn’t have thrown the little one. Luckily, nothing happened to it, or Ah Bai would hate me forever.”
Li Qingling understood Ah Huang—Diandian had bitten Ah Bai while drinking milk. Feeling sympathy for Ah Bai, Ah Huang had taken Diandian away.
She helplessly ruffled his head and whispered, “You are Diandian’s father. If Diandian does something wrong, you can teach it, but you cannot abandon it, understand?”
Ah Huang nodded, acknowledging.
Li Qingling comforted Ah Huang’s little heart before bringing him inside.
“Ah Bai, this was Ah Huang’s mistake. I’ve scolded him. Don’t be angry, okay?”
Ah Bai glanced at Ah Huang and huffed, forgiving him.
Seeing Ah Bai’s expression, Ah Huang breathed a sigh of relief and ran over, licking Ah Bai’s fur in submission.
Li Qingling chuckled, gently tapping Diandian’s tiny head to warn it not to bite its mother again, or its father would worry.
Diandian looked at Li Qingling with wet, innocent eyes and licked her finger, signaling it hadn’t done it on purpose.
Li Qingling found the little one adorable. She held it up and looked into its eyes. “Can you see me?”
Diandian replied in its tiny baby voice that it could.
Just a few days old and already seeing clearly? Wasn’t it supposed to take at least half a month?
Perhaps because Ah Bai had drunk the spiritual water, Diandian’s eyes were already sharp.
Li Qingling smiled, patted its head, and gently set it down. But before she could withdraw her hand, Diandian clamped down on her finger with its mouth.
The sudden action startled her. She was about to tell it to let go when she realized Diandian was sucking her finger.
“You little rascal, let go!” Ah Huang thought Diandian was biting Li Qingling and angrily swiped a paw.
Quick as ever, Li Qingling caught Ah Huang’s paw and glared at him. “Don’t be impulsive! Diandian isn’t biting me.”
Ah Huang glanced at Diandian skeptically. “Master, are you sure it’s not biting you?”
“Sure. It’s just smart—it’s drinking spiritual water.” Li Qingling shook her head helplessly, wondering if Diandian did it on purpose or by accident. How could it just happen to suck her ring finger?
Spiritual water?
Ah Huang instinctively swallowed, whining that he also wanted some. He knew the benefits of spiritual water.
Li Qingling smirked slightly and withdrew her hand, but Diandian clung stubbornly to her finger.
When she lifted her hand, Diandian dangled in the air, all four tiny legs struggling. Li Qingling laughed lightly and gently set her hand down, fearing it might fall.
“Diandian refuses to let go, so I have no choice. You can drink next time!”
Hearing this, Ah Huang glared at Li Qingling with big, mournful eyes. It felt its status had been plummeting since the little one was born.
Li Qingling patted Ah Huang’s head with her other hand, reminding him not to fight with his child for food.
When had he ever fought Diandian for food?
Ah Huang felt even more aggrieved.
It looked at the little one, huffed, and pushed Ah Bai with its paw. Lowering its head, it grabbed Diandian’s food.
Hmph… if the little one drank all its spiritual water, it would drink all its milk.
“…“ Li Qingling was dumbfounded.
After a moment, she finally laughed aloud. “Diandian, your dad is so childish.” Getting jealous over your own child—Ah Huang was definitely a first. “Ah Huang, don’t finish it all! Leave some for Diandian.”
Ah Bai didn’t even scold Ah Huang, letting him drink—truly miraculous.
Ah Huang silently turned away from Li Qingling and continued to hog Diandian’s food.
Diandian seemed to realize its food was about to be stolen by its childish father, let go of Li Qingling’s hand, and scrambled toward its mother.
Ah Huang extended a paw, pushing Diandian aside, not allowing it near Ah Bai.
One insisted on going, the other blocked, tugging back and forth. Li Qingling laughed heartily at this father-and-son pair—it was too funny.
Only after Ah Huang finished Diandian’s food did he release his paw and let Diandian go.
Diandian ran over, ready to drink, only to find nothing left… nothing… it whined in frustration.
Ah Huang happily licked Ah Bai’s fur and promised to hunt some prey to feed him.
Ah Bai replied with a simple “okay.”
Ah Huang joyfully stood, shook his body, and told Li Qingling before striding out triumphantly.
These unprincipled parents…
Li Qingling silently shed a tear of sympathy for Diandian. She smiled and gently told Ah Bai not to spoil Ah Huang next time. Seeing her nod, she slowly stood up and left the room.
Stepping into the courtyard, she saw the two Nannies looking pale. “How are you? Were you scared?”
The two Nannies weakly shook their heads.
In truth, they had been terrified, especially when the big tiger circled them once—it almost made them faint.
“Don’t be afraid,” Nian Xia said, suppressing a laugh. “Ah Huang circling you is just to remember your scent, not to bite you.”
Seeing the two Nannies’ legs trembling at Ah Bai’s presence made her want to laugh.
